I remember a lot of past posts over the years saying that if he was ever let go that he would be quickly snatched up by another team.
Has there been any rumors of any team showing interest in him?
We heard this a lot when Reese and his hire Ross (who was also touted as a GM material) were under fire. So far it looks like just so much smoke. It was long over due to move on from that duo. Couglin took the fall for them and Mara.
He didn't/doesn't want Eli, because Eli didn't have the ability to escape from his porous o-line. It would be his latest attempt to deflect attention from the disaster offensive line.

I think QB play in the NFL is trending more to the mobility side due to the lack of offensive line talent being produced at the NCAA level. It's one of the hardest positions to draft now a days due to the spread.
Reese is no longer the Giants' GM. He brought TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS to the franchise. Very few GMs accomplished that in the NFL (whole) history.
Show some RESPECT.
The current prevailing theory right now is that Reese is what kept us from winning 4-5 and that anything positive he ever did for the Giants was really Accorsi or Gettleman.
He'd pick Barkley - "just a clean guy, explosive athlete, only 20 yo" Â
"we just think the sky is the limit. Smart guy, cares about football. wants to be great. We think he can step in right away and help get this offense back on track"
Or RB; either of which would have been 2 nd or 3rd rounders.
He loved reaches and weapons....especially for a new offensives miinded HC.
OL and/ or LB in the 5th / 6th---See ' reaches' above.

His reputation preceded himself league wide. Nobody wants that guy.
I think he’s changing urinal cakes in various rest stops along I-95 these days.
To be fair, it took Coughlin a year to get a job after being fired.
Not many executives or coaches jump right into another job right after being fired.
Completely fair and I am sure he is taking a year to send some time with his family. God knows being a GM doesn't mean you get to be with your family as often.

History will be kinder to Reese than most of the resident BBI revisionist historians.
Reese was the GM for those two SB Championships. Peroid!
Gettleman is on the clock now. It's one thing to win a press conference but winning a Superbowl is a different animal. Tic tock........

I respect his ability to deflect, blame and cause the downfall of virtually everyone else around him and then get $200 million from the owners to cover his failures while he continued to put a shitty product out on the field. That takes real talent.
Because he drafted Webb in the 3rd round last year and Reese was patient to a fault with his draft picks. He would almost certainly take either Chubb or Barkley at 2 and justify passing on a QB saying that they had a higher grade on Webb than they do on any QB in the draft. We all know Reese wouldn't trade down because he has never done so in his entire tenure here.
The end of the Eli era would have come right after because it’s time however it became the end of the JR era instead time will prove who was the real culprit.
so my leaning would be to draft a QB which would allow him another grace period as the new guy gets groomed. He would also push the narrative of Webb being a great talent and they would ultimately be able to trade him for a #1.
On the other hand, I think he would have been under a directive that it needs to be turned around immediately so he would go with a non-QB pick.
One thing I'm sure of - he wouldn't have traded it.
Reese always picked skill positions or cbs. Barkley and Nelson are the best players but a guard....Reese always looking for olinemen like david diehl and rich seubert in later round.

I agree with Slim. Both Reese and McAdoo were in self preservation mode.

He had a bad run towards the end of his tenure, but he was far from a bad GM.

When he was let go, it was reported that he was thinking of retiring. He had been apart of the organization for 20 + years.

When the Reese must go talk started in 2012-3 or so, he would've been snatched up quickly.
After a half decade of terrible teams, no. Nobody would want him. I think Marc Ross ends up with a job in the NFL again before Reese does.

He would announce Saquon Barkley, "The JPP of running backs."
6th round- Andre Woodson
5th round - Rhett Bomar
4th round - Ryan Nassib
3rd round - Davis Webb
He would have picked a QB in the 2nd round though. Fer sho.
