Different coaches and medical yet same injury issues so far. Swarzak, Cespedes join the other 10 guys w injuries.
And pitching looks like it has A LOT of work to do already. This zen master Callaway is either going to back his talk w an epic career or become a complete joke in 2 years.
Or do we have to wait for DeGrom news before breathing?
And Swarzak has no timetable for his return.
We deal with this every year. Can you really blame people for being this way? Mets fans are battered children. We've been watching our best players get hurt every single year like we're Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.
Gave up a blast to cF
Again and Bruce chasing a bloop to rF line is like watching two lovers jogging in slow motion with some romance music in the background. Sooooo sloooowwwwwww lol
Good throw to 2b by Bruce to get him.
1B cameraman - terrible hands!
Jax sloppy in cF. Lazy play.
Keep in mind this is the minor league lineup of a minor league team...
Now a K... 8 up 8 down.
He's just a pitcher. He isn't a flamethrower and he doesn't have overpowering stuff, but you always feel like you can get a quality outing and that he'll keep you in the game when he's on the bump.
Hope he can stay healthy.
Hope not. Hate to see him dipping below .750

can Plawecki maintain .667 all year?

Same. Any thoughts on David Thompson? I read last year that his defense was becoming a positive and he's had a few hits this week.
Not sure why, but I think Wheeler puts it together this year. The potential for this rotation is off the charts but I feel like we’ve been talking about potential for years. Just once, let’s put it together. FTW!

If everyone was actually healthy and pitching up to their potential we would probably challenge for best staff of all time. That’s wishful thinking though. In the very least Vargas blocks a guy now. We don’t need that though. The 5 aces dream needs to die. It was never realistic. No team has ever had 5 aces. Just give me Thor and DeGrom and Vargas types and we are already practically there to 2016 levels again. The trickle down effect is massive.
Having Thor and DeGrom plus three #3 type pitchers isn’t unrealistic if we ever get health. Big IF.
History tells us that probably won’t happen but, damn if it does.

Yup. We still have a chance to have a generational type rotation if all the pieces came together but for the purposes of us getting to the playoffs just give me our two horses (Thor/deGrom) for now. If one of those go down the doors could blow off in a heartbeat again.
Likewise the bullpen has a similar effect. If you have a top 5 closer coupled with just one really good setup guy, you are going to have a top bullpen (cough cough 2016). I think people think all the pitchers are created equal and everyone needs to be amazing.... You have anchors that carry the load and take pressure off everybody else. The closer and setup guy are in during the toughest of situations almost every time. A healthy Familia is worth 4 "decent" relievers. Thor is worth 4 decent starters.
As I keep saying though, you gotta keep your stars healthy. We have the talent. We have the key anchor pieces. A lof of if we get to the finish line is going to be sheer luck now.
John Maine was looking like a great pitcher until met ortho butchered his shoulder. I was so bummed on that one.

Zack Wheeler hit 96 mph during the fourth. His ball was moving, for better and for worse. Wheeler made Freddie Freeman look silly on an 88-mph slider, striking out two. But he also allowed a run to score on consecutive wild pitches, and needed 26 pitches to record three outs.
So true

It’s been like this since 1988.

are you trying to curse this season on March 2?
Knock it off with this positive optimistic bullshit.
the season is over and the injuries are piling up. Let's stick with that and be pleasantly surprised if it turns out any other way.
Some of us have scars.

Seriously!
Didn’t know how to word it, so I haven’t till now. Couldn’t describe it. But the blahness early in camp. The lack of WOW when looking around. But instead the simplicity of ball players just playing baseball. The little things.
Feels almost like a Cardinals camp.
He was much better than his numbers would indicate last year IMO. He's a 2018 sleeper for this Metnut.
LOL... I'd keep him here just so he can't go anywhere else and destroy us. Didn't he always rake against us?
Split squad day, so tonight’s game probably gets a bit more coverage. Gives everyone an excuse to head down to West Palm for the night, and get the hell out of PSL

Could Lobaton become this years Rene Rivera? Lol

.611 career OPS vs. the Mets which is actually slightly below his career mark (.618)
If only that could be permanent.
He hit like .310 against us in 2014 - maybe that's what I'm remembering since he's a career .218 hitter.
Hows that glove though ;)
Good for him. He came in feeling REAL good about himself. So getting off to a nice start should really do wonders for him and his confidence. I still say it's the pre at bat ritual...
That's pretty sad if he can't leapfrog Reyes and Rivera.
Other day on a routine groundout pointed out how I loved seeing a huge guy like Borenstein running as hard as possible. So was cracking up to see him leg that one out today.

There’s just such a log jam at 2B right now. Cabrera, Reyes, Flores, TJ Rivera, Guillorme, Cheech... He’s going to have to be incredible to leapfrog all those guys on the depth chart.

Reyes was worth 2fWAR last year and is signed to a major league contract. Zero chance Cecchini is taking his spot in 2018 unless Reyes is injured. As for TJ, he hasnt played much in the majors yet but he’s already got over a league average line hitting wise and did things in the minors Cheech could only dream of. I’m not saying it’s impossible but I would definitely have TJ ahead of Cheech when he’s healthy.
Love to see a young guy become a .280-.300 hitter w some rbi capabilities to hold down 2b for the next 5 years.
