Different coaches and medical yet same injury issues so far. Swarzak, Cespedes join the other 10 guys w injuries.

And pitching looks like it has A LOT of work to do already. This zen master Callaway is either going to back his talk w an epic career or become a complete joke in 2 years.

Boy its quiet around here...
Shecky : 3/5/2018 12:50 pm : link
Lets get the bad news out of the way first.
DeGrom looks fine
Rosario looks fine
Officially mechanical now with Matz, which is GREAT news.

Harvey in the hill for round two today. Fastballs in the first, offspeed in second and third? His command and getting ahead is the key to his success today.
The most under the radar HUGE news for Mets junkies today is a little pat on the butt to Gimenez as they bring him across from the backfields and let him hang with the big boys today.
Nimmo and Cech in the same lineup finally. Get to laugh twice as much at the pre AB ritual.
For a minor league system being blasted, a lot of the fringe guys seem to be holding their own the first week and a half. Showing they are at least capable of being called up for a bit to fill in for injuries etc.

Solid first for Matt.

Just a wall to Miggy - no other damage.

Walk.. not wall.
Sitting 92-94
Rob in Rockaway : 3/5/2018 1:18 pm : link
had Cabrera K'd on a 96 on the black but Ump was the only one in the building who missed it, then he walked him.

Slider around 87. Pretty good inning. 1 line out, and 2 grounders sandwiched around the BB.

Nimmo goes deep to lead it off.

Situation interesting this year. Id love a 4 man rotation with all the injuries these guys get everyone can use the rest.

Conforto is taking overhand live batting practice today for the first time.

My guess @ the rotation if we're going w/ 5...

Thor
Jake
Harvey
Vargas
Lugo

Matz, Wheeler to BP

Gsellman to LV

Side note - Ojeda was just on the FAN. Went pretty hard on Noah. Said he doesn't think he's learned much of anything after watching him try blowing 100 mph fastballs by hitters rather than working on his actual pitching. Thinks he's got "some Harvey in him" as far as wanting attention, pointed at the shirtless interview, etc.

I don't totally agree - but I guess I can see where he's coming from.
Thor
Shecky : 3/5/2018 3:30 pm : link
I think hes got more Fydrich than Harvey in him.
And I disagree that he was throwing his hardest and not working on his pitching.
I still see Matz in the rotation
ZGiants98 : 3/5/2018 3:34 pm : link
At least initially. He still has plenty of spring left to get it together. He may transition to the pen but my guess is not until a couple of months in.
.
arcarsenal : 3/5/2018 3:35 pm : link
I didn't really agree with Ojeda - was just weird that he seemed to be so hard on Noah. Sounded like he had a bit of an axe to grind.

I think Matz' confidence is completely shot right now.

He still has time but he doesn't trust his stuff at all. Ball isn't going where he wants it to. Nothing is working.

Yeah - already not too thrilled on the DP depth behind Familia.

Scwarzak already injured, Ramos doesn't look good.

Really wish we still had Reed.

It'll be interesting to see. Harvey's results with diminished velocity have been really ugly in the recent the past. If he can just be a "good" #3-4 starter for us (doesn't need to be 2015 Harvey), he'd be a real asset and it'd go a long way toward helping this team compete for a playoff spot.

With Matz and Wheeler not looking encouraging at all, I think we're going to need Harvey.

Happy to see some power from the bats the past few days. Nimmo looks to have a more aggressive approach which is the next evolution for him given his already really good eye for the zone. Frazier, Bruce hit bombs the other day, and TDA had an XBH today too.

Not resigning Reed at that price is still the biggest mystery of the offseason to me.
I think Reed faded a bit
Metnut : 3/5/2018 5:41 pm : link
after the trade to Boston and his velocity ticked a little bit downward last year. That could explain the cool market for him.

I would've still thought about bringing him back considering the price he ultimately signed for.

Sounds to me he is implying he is an egocentric spoiled diva who hasnt yet learned from his experiences.

Sadly that is prob correct. But it wont matter either way if he can actually manage a full 30 start season w his best stuff
Ojeda always has some kind of stick up his ass about something

Rosario tried to jog yesterday and felt discomfort and some pain. Waiting to see doc. Hasnt had an MRI. #mets
Looking like
spike : 3/6/2018 9:36 am : link
Reyes is the opening day shortstop
If Rosario starts on DL I wonder if Guillorme or Cecchini get a shot
Eric on Li : 3/6/2018 9:38 am : link
they'd need someone who can play the position on the bench at a minimum, even if they start Reyes. Still a few weeks so I'd imagine he won't need the DL, but also no real rush.
Guillorme
DanMetroMan : 3/6/2018 9:49 am : link
is 100% going to have a career. Question is will he hit enough to be a borderline starter. He has to at least be able to occasionally hit on into the gaps. Zero power, zero speed just doesn't play.

Cecchini absolutely no way he's considered an option to replace Rosario.
Ughhh
Metnut : 3/6/2018 9:52 am : link
that's really bad news if Rosario is out for a while. Reyes was so bad at short last year that I'd rather go with Flores. Hopefully he's at least taking reps there. Either way though, Reyes, Cabrera and Flores aren't exactly inspiring choices at SS if Rosario is out for more than a week.

The other injuries to keep an eye on are Degrom (he still hasn't started in a game yet this spring and is up in the air for opening day) and Conforto (looks like he's hitting off of a tee and on schedule).

We need these key players to be healthy and play as many games as possible. We've seen seemingly minor injuries linger for long periods with this team in the recent past.

WTF? I thought he was going in for an MRI over the weekend? Why would the Mets wait? It is fucking ridiculous how this plays out over and over again - player gets hurt, Mets say he will go in for an MRI, MRI never happens, player more seriously hurt than initially believed. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Hopefully, this turns out to be nothing, but the Mets lack of follow through on caring for their players is baffling. Does the MRI cost come right out of Jeffy's pocket? Ugh!
