Pretty Good Graphic on QB's/Draft Position

Giantfan in skinland : 3/6/2018 7:54 pm

Not the whole story. There are outliers of course. But pretty interesting.
Anybody know how to shrink that down to size a bit

?
Use brackets instead of parentheses.

Put in numbers for the width amd height
I thought about making fun of your thread title but I'll just fix...

The odds of hitting on a Franchise QB
Simms11 : 3/6/2018 8:44 pm : link
in the first 5 picks is much higher for obvious reasons. I’m sure the Giants will be drafting one of the QBs. Barkley will most likely be taken by The Browns first and so the Giants will essentially be taking the best QB in the draft and there’s a few guys with some serious skill.
Yeah -- but picking a QB in the first five

just based on the percentages -- has zero logic to back it up. A prospect has to justify the high pic too in order to meet that potential

The logic to back it up is if a QB is worthy of a top 5 pick he has a better chance to be a pro bowler. I don't think anyone is saying any QB taken in the top 5 will be a pro bowler
I did a whole post on this

Did the research myself but only on top 5 picks vs 3rd riders. The 3rd round guys were Russell Wilson, nick Foles and Neil o donnell.

Only Wilson really qualifies as a franchise guy. The odds are slim Webb is.

The drop off after O’Donnell is steep. You have Brian Griese and Matt Schaub and then literal no names.
That makes a strong argument

for the Giants taking a QB with their first pick. Thanks for those stats.
I wonder if the % is higher if you....

go back to the start of the SB era in ‘66. Then you have Bradshaw, Plunkett, Elway, Marino, Kelley, Pastorini, Griese, BJones, etc.
I mean that...

for first rounders...
They really need to go qb
giantsFC : 3/7/2018 12:54 am : link
If any of these guys are still considered can’t miss.

I still think browns go qb w first pick.
Good stuff

Of course you don't draft a QB at #2 based on this. But if you really like a QB and think he could be a franchise guy, these stats make you feel a little better.

If you put your money on Webb, these stats don't make you feel so good...
Very convincing
Shecky : 3/7/2018 8:04 am : link
But I do wonder if other positions would produce similar results?

Other positions aren’t as critical.

Very well said. Unfortunately Webb also has serious flaws that will likely prevent him from ever being an effective stater, which of course is why he was a third round pick. The odds are stacked against Webb. As others have pointed out, Wilson is really the only qb on that list who has been a franchise qb.
I'd be shocked if we don't come away
Keith : 3/7/2018 11:17 am : link
from this draft with a QB.

Just FYI - if you extend the timeline to the SB, Montana and Fouts come into play as third round picks. But that still won't move the needle - obviously - that the third round is place for a QB solution...
