What the heck is wrong with the Redskins?
Cousins is a legit starting QB in this league, which is basically priority #1 for every team. And they're letting him go!
I just don't get it. Why didn't they lock him up to a long term deal instead of letting him walk?
And give me Cousins over Alex Smith any day of the week.
Smith is older. He’s a downgrade. And the Redskins have nothing in the hole. McCoy is a career back-up. They’ve screwed this up royally.
Oh, and then theres this years game where the Giants had guys I never heard of starting and Cousins couldn't get it done.
He is hot and cold and tends to come up small when it matters. I don't blame the skins for not wanting to pay 30 million for that.
Cousins is better than any QB minny had last year so it would be an upgrade for them, but it will be interesting to see if he can win when it matters.

Retro - you keep trying to claim that Smith's passes traveled the shortest distance of any QB in the league last season, but it's simply not accurate. He was in the top half of the league in air yards, and ahead of our own Eli Manning, among notable others.

Especially if that 90 million over 3, all guaranteed, by the Vikings is true. Nobody has milked the system better. I don’t think he’s great. But I agree with you that he’s better than Smith, who represents everything that’s wrong with contemporary passing stats. Smith is more mobile. And that’s all he is. His passes traveled the shortage distance of any quarterback in the league last season . He makes Eli look like Daryl Lamonica, by comparison.

And, I should add, another QB who had a lower completed air yards average was none other than Kirk Cousins. These stats exist. You can check them rather than falling back on a player's reputation.
That’d be a bargain today. I mean look what glennon got
Last year he was the league leader in passer rating. The false narrative about him being unable to pass the ball downfield has already been busted here. His LCAY (longest completed air yards) downfield was 52.4, which is very close to Cousin's longest (54.4) and significantly longer than Eli's (46.2). He's got enough arm to air it out when it's smart to do so.
Will Washington be able to run an offense with Smith as successful as the one KC ran? Time will only tell, but they seem confident given the investment. I'm fascinated by the whole thing.

Are air yards (completed passes) and total passes downfield the same thing? Not sure which is accurate but I think you guys might be talking about 2 different things.
I’d rather have Cousins, but hard to really gauge given how much they paid for Smith both in salary and picks.

Air yards are the total yards (or average yards) that a QB's completed passes actually travel in the air, in terms of forward yardage. So it basically removes all YAC from a QB's passing yardage.
The idea that Smith had the fewest yards in the air (or that his passes traveled the shortest distance, which is just another way of saying the same thing) is fictitious. There's also "intended air yards" which I believe includes air yards on incomplete passes, but I'm not sure why anyone would credit a QB for incomplete passes anyway - what's the benefit of incomplete deep passes other than to skew the air yards differential?
Next topic.
Cousins is an average QB. He may get Vikings to Conference Championship.
OH Yeah - they did that with Concussion boy.
The only thing the DC team has done right is to NOT pay Cousins any more money.
I was hoping they would Franchise him again , try to trade him and be stuck with Cousins and his $35,000,000 salary.
When will these GM's learn?
