Quick question for those of you that can answer - I've read both play LG, are the two guard spots interchangeable or is there a chance either of them wouldn't be as capable as they've shown long term if moved to RG?
Traditionally, The right side of the O Line is considered the " Strong Side " because the TE lines up on the Right Side more often. The Right Guard is more often lined up on the 3 tech DT in a 4-3 front, usually the better pass rushing DT.
Teams obviously will run to either side but the right side with the TE inline will pull the LG on a power play and double team and down block on the right side, also may have a FB lead, with either a Toss to the RB or straight hand off.
Nelson would have no problem switching to the Right side IMO.
but I agree with those who say that Nelson would be a terrific ORG. The LG is usually the more mobile, while since most teams run games are right handed, the RG is the bigger, stronger “mauler” type. That is what makes Nelson so special, imo, he can do both.
wrapped up in the guard positions while they play next to weak tackles.
I think two strong G's would help make the T's better and inside runs would have better success.
Couldn't agree more. Mention the same point on other threads. Don't see why others don't get this. They'll automatically make the tackles better. So crappy become average, average becomes slightly better than average. Let's try it.

... but opinions on if he COULD play LT in the NFL?
Yes and while he is a great guard he probably could be a better tackle then David Diehl ever was.
