I hope we can resign Kenard

BigBlueDownTheShore : 3/8/2018 8:22 am
he's been our best LB for the past few seasons, and he's versatil.

Vernon, Ogletree, Goodson, Kenard would be our starting LBs.

JPP, Snacks, Tomlinson down in front. I think we need a 3-4 DE though and let JPP take some "LB" snaps from time to time.
Who else is going to
section125 : 3/8/2018 8:27 am : link
sign him?
I agree...
Capt. Don : 3/8/2018 8:32 am : link
Two underrated signings that would be very welcomed would be Kennard and Cockrell.
Cockrell is someone I really want back
SirYesSir : 3/8/2018 8:35 am : link
Kenard has been solid but overall meh for me, but I do think this new defense will suit him much better, so yes I'd like to bring him back. I don't think it's critical, but I do hope it happens
I wouldn't assume we're moving to a 3-4 base yet
JonC : 3/8/2018 8:40 am : link
Kennard is a solid SAM in a 4-3 or ILB in a 3-4, but let's see what the UFA cost is.

He's best suited for a 3-4 base and he knows it. Much depends on what the Giants tell him about their defense moving forward.
Avery Moss could be sloted to play OLB
Rjanyg : 3/8/2018 9:12 am : link
But I agree bringing back Kennard would be nice since he can play inside or out in a 3-4.
I think Casillas and Robinson were our best LBs in 2016.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/8/2018 9:28 am : link
If Kennard was the team's top LB in 2017, it's only because everyone else was on IR. He did very little, playing behind a pretty decent defensive line.

Kennard is a legitimate NFL player, and I'd like to have him back at marginal-starter money. Difference maker? Not from anything we've seen so far.

Agreed.
It would be a mistake to count on JPP ....

For much of anything... he’s been overrated since the day he was drafted. It’s been 1 excuse after another and he showed his true colors with the mystery game after the fireworks incident. Too bad his ridiculous contract limits options.
I hope we don’t

Waste of money.

I think just before the fireworks incident he and his agents
really took on a shitty attitude in their contract negotiations with the Giants. they thought they were dictating surrender terms. Kept thinking of the Germans
in that railroad car in 1940 with the French. But I think
the Germans may have been more polite than JJP's agent.

As for Kennard and Cockrell,
Doomster : 3/8/2018 11:32 am : link
I hope we sign better.....

You can count on one hand(and you won't use all your fingers), all the Huge Plays Kennard has made since he has been here.....

Cockrell is not a man on man CB....3 int's in garbage games....

Part of the problem is, Kennard has probably been our best LB, and he is not even average....his coverage skills were way over rated, and as a blitzing LBer, he would constantly be stopped cold by HB's....
Kennard
Mr. Nickels : 3/8/2018 11:32 am : link
should come back and would be solid olb in 34 with Goodson and Ogletree in the middle Vernon on the outside.

He is OK
ZogZerg : 3/8/2018 12:25 pm : link
But I don't think he has lived up to the BBI Hype on him over the years.
I don’t think you want Kennard at DE instead of JPP
Ivan15 : 3/8/2018 1:18 pm : link
I do think his versatility will fit a hybrid defense.
Kennard
Dragon : 3/8/2018 7:05 pm : link
I’m trying real hard to come up with a reason to resign him but it’s not his run defense, pass defense, pass rush or special teams play?
Kennard stays because you can’t turn over the entire roster
Jimmy Googs : 3/8/2018 7:44 pm : link
overnight.

But please don’t think there is anything special in his game...
JPP

I think he was a rare talent and played with reckless abandon his first few years. I think the league caught on to some of his weaknesses and along with some nagging injuries he just wasn't the same guy. He is still a load but his days being a top player are behind him IMO.
Maybe I’ve lost it but
mattnyg05 : 3/8/2018 8:23 pm : link
Kennard our best linebacker? We have some shitty, shitty linebackers if that’s the case. It maybe be true but he is not a good player IMO.
I think he's a bright guy and has leadership potential
adamg : 3/8/2018 8:42 pm : link
Not everyone has to be a pro bowler. He can be a good glue guy
he will be solid
msh : 3/9/2018 5:41 am : link
the addition of ogletree will help he will really help the coverage against TE's,nobody was saying he is harry carson or anything but we could do with him back the way the roster sits unless the price was too high think they could do with one of robinson or sheppard back too plus add a draft pick for an OLB/edge rusher type guy to give that new scheme a little more flexibility

they are weak at CB so getting cockrell back is a no brainer too particularly when you gave up a draft pick to get him i know it wasnt a high pick but unless the price prohibits it it would make sense
