Casserly's Thoughts on the draft

Now Mike in MD : 3/9/2018 8:44 am
Charlie Casserly was on the radio this morning, and he had some thoughts on the draft I thought I'd pass along.

First, re the QBs, he has them ranked as follows:
Darnold
Rosen
Mayfield
Allen
Jackson.

He has real concerns about the accuracy and decision making for Allen and the accuracy of Jackson, He said he has two pages of questions re Rosen related to leadership, desire, etc. Obviously, none of those observations was particularly ground breaking or new.

His two best players are Saquan and Nelson. He said Nelson is the best OL he has seen since 2000.

FYI
Yep

Agree with Casserly on BPAs
I tend to agree

that Barkley and Nelson are top 2 but I have cooled on Darnold. I think if NYG is looking to have Eli 1-2 years that Allen has more talent than Darnold and at least played under center in his college career. I would lean Allen over Darnold in big picture with Rosen the most ready to start day one.
Accuracy is much more important than arm strength.

I agree with Casserly's ranking of the qb's.
I would not be shocked if Giants traded down a little and target OL

Nelson is a need and a good fit.

I don't think Shaquan is worth a #2 in the draft as this draft has some good RB's for later as well.
Don’t screw around too much it isn’t Draft Day the movie

If and a big if it’s Barkley and Nelson and Barkley is gone, don’t drop down hoping Nelson is there. The Colts could grab him. Pick the man. I’m not arguing for or against Nelson as this could apply to anyone. I’m arguing about the process.
If Casserly is correct about Allen

And his decision making, that is a concern for me. You can’t teach it and experience doesn’t fix it always. Makes me think of Kerry Collins.
You'd have to

think Colts would go Nelson at 3 considering all the shitty OLs they have stuck Luck with. That being said, they have close to zero pass rushers and Chubb should be there.
Pretty much CE

Although I’d rate Rosen over Darnold.

Barkley, Nelson and Edmunds are probably the best three players in the draft.
How much would the Giants get for trading down
Breeze_94 : 3/9/2018 11:17 am : link
to 4 or 5?

It would be so dumb to stay put and take Nelson at 2. Right now he is mostly being mock to TB at 7.

Colts likely take Chubb, Browns Barkley, Broncos if they trade up w/ Giants would take a QB.

I still think Edmunds is possible in a trade down. He can play EDGE or ILB and complement Ogletree. That would be a good, athletic LB duo.

They would get an Eli type deal. 1 this year, 2 this year, 1 next year.

Barkley is not dropping to 4. If the Browns AND Giants pass on him the Colts are running up to the podium to take him at 3. Bank on that.

Living in Indy you almost never hear Nelson in the discussion. Local talking heads are still convinced it is between Barkley and Chubb.
I watched the ND - Miami game to take a look

at Nelson and his OL mates against an athletic Miami defensive line. The quickness of Miami showed up the ND OL time and time again. Not too sure that will not be replayed with the speed of the NFL linemen.

Colts have to go D as they have none.
