That move never made sense to me. DRC is a more than capable corner. He also seems tailor made for the new defense as someone who can be left on an island.
Honestly, the idea was weird when it was reported. Â
not lend itself well to safety (more angular and lean) and his tackling ability is average at best. I think the cap space is more needed here and DRC is let go. Especially if they truly are giving Apple a chance to redeem himself.
but I think Richard Sherman would make a good safety.
good size, good ball skills, and good tackler. not sure how his coverage is anymore with the injruies (like I said in the Sherman thread), but with his injuries maybe safety is a better fit than CB and that may remove the Patriots (where he's rumored to end up) from the running.
Collins Sherman Jenkins DRC and Apple (or Apple replacement) is a good secondary.
DRC in 2016 had one of the best seasons I've ever seen from a Giants CB.. lockdown coverage and a bunch of athletic INTs
If he is cut ( which I hope he isn't )he will be remembered fondly

Agree. I think DRC has been terrific on the defense since he got here. And I think he’s more physical than he gets credit for, especially as a DB. I have no idea wtf was wrong with the defense last year, especially the defensive backfield, but it’s hard for me to imagine DRC was the source of all the problems. He isn’t overly expensive for his position and who the heck knows about Apple. I’d like to see him stay.
to S makes sense, given his aversion to tackling.
Sherman & Badger would be too expensive to add, unless one or more of under performers is restructured, or traded/cut(unlikely).
fans seem to call for DRC to be cut for Cap space. But who are you replacing him with? Apple was brutal last year and cant be relied on, clean slate or not. You aren't finding a player of his caliber for any cheaper. And he only has 1 more year on his deal. Id be really surprised if they cut him.
May mean that they are in the midst of negotiations. Something like Giants want to extend by a year and lower the annual amount. Guarantees are key. How much would DRC gett on the open market?

I would like to keep him for two years.
