I expect Dwayne Harris and John Jerry to be cut....possibly Brandon Marshall. (although I hope he takes a cut and they rework his contract to be all performance based). And I hope hope they re-work DRC's contract...as well as finalize the cap hit on Ogletree. Hopefully we go into next week with around $25-28 million available to spend. Sign Norwell, Patrick Robinson and maybe another olineman. Would love Deion Lewis.
Plus if the rumors are true that the Giants and Norwell have reached an agreement, and with the trade for Ogletree, the cap number has to be smaller now.
We will need a RT candidate. No Pugh. No Hart ( thank God ) and I think there is a chance that one of Flowers or Wheeler could be our RT but I think there is good value in Hubbard and Fleming to sign and plug them in. This O Line needs young, healthy, competent players. Jones is tendered, Greco is vet depth, Flowers, Wheeler, Jerry, Bisnowaty, Dunker round out the other OL on the roster.
So, I am hoping for 2 FA OL ( Norwell, Fleming ) and 2 OL drafted ( Hernandez Rd 2, Cole round 5 )
The date has really become meaningless when a player is released. All clubs can designate any 2 players as post-June 1 cuts regardless of when they are released. The old days, a player used to have been carried on the roster until June 1 when they could be released and get the cap savings. Now, a player can be released and designated as a June 1st cut to spread the dead cap hit over 2 years. The hang-up about the June 1st designation is that a player whom is released and designated as a June 1st cut, their full dead cap hit must be accounted for until June 1 at which time the dead cap is reduced by half. This prevents teams from using the cap dollars that they are saving in the initial period of FA.
To void Apple’s contract, would this be the time to do it?
Then you have another expensive hole to fill. DG has already given Apple a mulligan for the upcoming season.
It wouldn't be a hole to fill. Apple would still be under contract. The Conduct Detrimental to the Team clause gives the organization the right to void the guarantees in a player's contract. It doesn't void the contract itself. Basically, instead of Apple's salary guaranteed over the life of his contract, it makes his salary to be earned year to year. The Conduct Detrimental clause allows the team to pursue the pro-rated signing bonus, also.
The new regime has given Apple a clean slate so it is apparent that they have opted not to pursue the matter.

he can take a pay cut.
Don't expect a fireworks show here.

Which is why I'm not expecting AN to sign here. Hope I'm wrong.

Weird dynamic to the Marshall thing is he's been working out this offseason by throwing and catching w/ Eli.
I could see Norwell’s agent saying they are interested in the Giants, but he may be saying that to other teams.

I hope John Jerry is cut if for no other reason than I'm tired of watching him repeatedly suck.
(kinda like the scam ne has up there w the phony tb12 nonsense...)
[quote] They need the cap savings and he'll be 34 years old on March 23.
Agree - and let's be real. Even before his injury, it was clear he was both not physically or mentally into it.

Totally agree.
And why cut a backup guard when his replacement would cost more?
