Curious to see how people compare the 04 QB class to this year's class. I personally was really high on Eli and Big Ben. Less so on Rivers. This year I don't have one QB I really like. Does anybody feel the same way?
The reasons given for not doing so don't pass the smell test. At the top of that list is 'he's not a can't miss player' which is a ridiculous position to take. This group is good. Rosen's arm talent and accuracy is special and on the mental side of the position he's ahead of the curve.
Roeth v Allen - similar bodies; Allen has a better arm and is a similar athlete, if not a bit better; Roeth is much further along...Edge: Roeth
Eli v Rosen - Eli more durable, and more success; Rosen is a superior thrower; similar acumen; similar athletes...Edge: Rosen
Darnold v Rivers - Darnold is the better athlete and a better arm and mover; Rivers with a very unorthodox motion but a real quick release; Darnold has a slower delivery...Edge: Even
How quickly the 18 class is being devauled by our fan base, who seem to be looking for the perfect prospect, who doesn't exist, literally ever. This is hands down the best class since 04, and we ll get a guaranteed shot at one of Darnold or Rosen, without spending anything other than a pick. Yet fans want to trade down or take a rb. It's simply mind boggling. And to suggest that it's as simple as trading up next year for a qb, again, baffling- and if fans don't like this class, they're going to hate next years. Or alternatively, think Davis Webb is the second coming, a Jerry Reese third round pick, who spent a season playing against guys who will be packing groceries this year. Yet the only justification for Davis Webb is he seems nice and works hard, never mind the fact that he has awful accuracy throwing the ball beyond 10 yards, struggled to read even the most basic, and generally was awkward in the pocket with little awareness.
Heres the thing, this isn't the 99 class, or Mark Sanchez. This is a class that's had multiple seasons of success in college, and are not last minute post combine risers- akin to Jeff George, Blake Bortles, or Mitch Trubisky. In that regard they are very similar to the 04 class. These are good qbs.
However, in reading this thread, I am glad there are level headed fans that realize the opportunity in front of the Giants, to be set at the qb position for nearly 30 years straight. I have zero confidence in this organization right now, given the pitiful performance over the past half decade, excluding one year, but hopefully DG does the right thing and takes Darnold or Rosen.
Your making it sound like Webb is complete garbage and I don’t buy that and I don’t know where you get that this guy is inaccurate on long ball as a matter of fact he excels at the long ball which is exactly what we’ve been lacking under Macadoo...... I’m tired of dink and dunk and that’s not Eli’s strong suit anyway .....
This class of ‘18 is much deeper but I’m not sure anyone - yet - is in Roeth’s class. Rosen throws the ball better than anyone from that ‘04 class...
