NGT: Dolphins exploring trade options for T Ju'Wuan James

The Miami Dolphins are attempting to trade the last player that remains from the franchise’s 2014 draft class.

Ja’Wuan James, the team’s 2014 first-round pick, is being shopped to teams seeking offensive line help, and could be moved before the start of free agency on Wednesday, according to a league source.

The article goes on to say that if the Dolphins cannot trade James, than it is likely he would be released.

This is a situation worth following, IMO.

He is due $9.3M in his 5th year option year...
Milton : 3/11/2018 4:26 pm : link
If the Giants are willing to pay James that kind of money (which is doubtful), perhaps they could offer up Ereck Flowers and his $2.4M in guaranteed salary. Flowers might be happier in Miami (where he grew up and went to college).

While Miami’s decision makers feel James is a capable starting right tackle, the organization views his $9.34 million salary in 2018 as exorbitant.

doesn't make me warm and fuzzy.
Rather take chances of him being released
jayg5 : 3/11/2018 4:31 pm : link
Over taking on that salary and possibly giving up a pick.

Even if it were swapping of picks in a certain round, 9 mill is too much, IMO

Miami is in cap hell so they are trying everything.
I don't know anything about James.

Is he the kind of hard-nosed "hog mollie" DG seems to want?

Flowers for James might be addition by subtraction as far as Giants' management is concerned, but still, there's no point in making a trade for a guy you don't want. (Unless you can pull off a deal like Cleveland made for Brock Osweiler, where you get a nice draft pick back along with the player, then dump the player.)
He's been
ryanmkeane : 3/11/2018 4:33 pm : link
OK but nothing special. Don't see how he would be an upgrade over Flowers

It's sort of weird to have a less than stellar team and be in cap hell at the same time. Seems like heads should roll.

i like the way you think
Just saw
mrvax : 3/11/2018 4:36 pm : link
he has missed half a season 2 out of 4 years.
He's also
ryanmkeane : 3/11/2018 4:36 pm : link
missed half of 2 separate seasons due to injury. If we want good football players that aren't injury prone, this guy doesn't fit the bill
I liked him in the draft
DavidinBMNY : 3/11/2018 4:37 pm : link
But he's probably better value once cut, if cut.

Watch almost every Dolphins game and he's WAY better then Flowers. He plays RT though. If they release him he's a guy we should go after. He was PFFs 17th rated OT last year.

It will be interesting what Pugh will sign for.
I thought it was obvious
EddieNYG : 3/11/2018 4:39 pm : link
That I was suggesting to keep an eye on this if James gets cut.

Not suggesting Giants trade for him.

Sorry for any confusion...

Sure, he's better than Flowers. I just don't get why everyone here wants to get rid of Pugh but then they'd want this guy.
I've always felt
mrvax : 3/11/2018 4:49 pm : link
that Pugh should have played LT at least from his 2nd year. He played LT all 4 years in college and when he did play LT for the Giants he held his own.

Strange he wanted to play LG.
I think he's better then Pugh.
Big Rick in FL : 3/11/2018 4:58 pm : link
Most likely would be cheaper too. He's a good player.
Based on what I have seen
Rory : 3/11/2018 5:03 pm : link
with reclamation project oline players over the years, very rarely do the projects ever come close to the play hoped for.

The way I see it now is that solid offensive lineman do not become available, anyone on the block right should be viewed a potential risk.

He was surprisingly good as a rookie

And has somehow just gotten worse

Dolphins are currently $3M OVER the cap. So clearing $9M and not taking on any dead money is what would happen with releasing or trading James.

It's strictly a salary cap move. Just like DRC was here with the Giants.

How the hell
ryanmkeane : 3/11/2018 5:34 pm : link
are the Dolphins over the cap? That's pretty brutal for being a mediocre team.

Mike Tannenbaum that's how. What he has done to the Dolphins is the same thing that he did to the Jets. He built a mediocre team with several bloated contracts. Suh has a $26 million cap number and if he is cut most of that would be dead money. Tannehill has a $19 million cap hit as well.
Speaking of Dolphins O lineman.......

How has Tunsil played? He was rumored to be the #1 overall pick, then had the photos surface and dropped. What kind of player has he been?
James

Is a true Phins player no consistency at all the kid can play but for some reason he will have several two or three games in a row where he seems disinterested on the field. For sure he is even now a much better RT than anyone presently on the Giants roster. Still I would caution not worthy of a draft pick since it’s almost a sure bet he will be released.

Sue is the same to many games he is way to invincible for his talent level got all the tools desire sometimes missing. You can go up and down the Phins roster way to many players fit this profile. In truth it’s pretty much the same with the Giants to many players not even close to performing to talent level. Not sure we can fix that right now that’s why FA scares me big money paydays poor talent mix and performance get the young hungry guys hoping to make a name in the NFL.
Tunsil
Dragon : 3/11/2018 9:03 pm : link
Has fit in perfectly with the Phins still kind of moving around on the line and of course no game to game consistency. These coaches can’t seem to light the fires raging deep inside many players or the game has become to much thinking and not enough smash mouth. Look at the OL’s around the league every team has some high draft picks failing to develop as hoped. When is it time start asking are these guys that bad or is the coaching not good enough?
James filled in at LT I think in his second year. He was pretty
Ivan15 : 3/11/2018 11:01 pm : link
effective. If they don’t get Solder and I don’t think they will, James would not be a bad option.

I don’t know why he is inconsistent but that is true of the whole MIAMI line.
Pardon my ignorance
Capt. Don : 3/12/2018 9:00 am : link
but when would they need to release him by to get the most in terms of cap savings.

The tackle market is so woefully thing that I cant imagine the Giants not being interested if he became available.
