Brandon Marshall

djstat : 3/12/2018 12:57 pm
Starting wonder if he will be on the roster at least through Camp? New system. Mac's system did not help him and Coach Shurmer is known to tweak his system to fit his personnel. Wondering if NYG will give Marshall more time, especially because he seems to work well with Eli.
Can't believe the will keep him at $5m
BillT : 3/12/2018 12:59 pm : link
they just cut DRC who was miles better than Marshall but they're going to give him a chance at that price. Vet min for Marshall.
He should be cut. Why cut DRC but keep Marshall?
DennyInDenville : 3/12/2018 1:00 pm : link
Anyways, I agree , it looks like he will be back.

When did he ever work well with Eli in a game?

yeah really dj, when did that ever happen? because if it did, everybody else here but you missed it. Forget the same page, they weren't even reading the same book.

Marshall sucks. Good bye.
The first game he started showing some rapport with Eli
Giantology : 3/12/2018 1:06 pm : link
He went down with a season ending injury.

I'm not opposed to keeping BM for another year, though like everyone else I'd of course prefer to lower his cap figure.
he will be gone
2cents : 3/12/2018 1:07 pm : link
FA hasnt even officially started, he will be gone or restructured as soon as they need the space.
.
arcarsenal : 3/12/2018 1:07 pm : link
I wouldn't mind seeing Marshall back for another year if we could lower that cap # - but if DRC is gone, my guess is Marshall is a lock to be released.
Hmm
mdthedream : 3/12/2018 1:08 pm : link
maybe the Giants should have played more than a quarter of football during the preseason. They came out flat as a team and by the time they got going the season was over.
Marshall may not work well with Eli in a game
pjcas18 : 3/12/2018 1:09 pm : link
(yet), but I think that was the point of the post.

Marshall has been working with Eli at all of Eli's off-season workouts.

I think that's what djstat meant.

Maybe Shurmur's system is better suited to an aging possession receiver than MacAdoo's.
Unfortunately
JonC : 3/12/2018 1:10 pm : link
for all the work and improvement he's made on his mental aspects as an adult, his bad football habits surfaced way too often last season. I'd prefer they move on.

I’m not a Marshall fan but even average WRs get a ton of money in FA. If the Giants don’t need his money they’re probably better off keeping him around.
Think he'll be cut
jeff57 : 3/12/2018 1:11 pm : link
They need the money.

When exactly did "they get going"
I would give him another shot
Bluesbreaker : 3/12/2018 1:14 pm : link
last season was a disaster from the get go if he sucks
in camp can't separate let him go .

I'd keep him too at vet min. He got $5m last year for nothing. Time for him to give back or move on.
Well if you can’t
RetroJint : 3/12/2018 1:33 pm : link
run or catch the ball in contested areas, the money play is hang around Eli 24-7, 365. Then you are guaranteed an emeritus title.
It was reported last week
NikkiMac : 3/12/2018 1:33 pm : link
I believe that he was catching passes with Eli....
I would assume
Chip : 3/12/2018 1:46 pm : link
he has agreed to a pay cut or a restructure based on performance.
Agree that $5m
redwhiteandbigblue : 3/12/2018 1:48 pm : link
is too much. Some people forget that PRIOR to the season ending injury he played from game #1 with a shoulder injury which did not allow him to stretch for balls. Many misconstrued this as not making an effort, being that Marshall never used the injury as an excuse. I like him and would love to see him back at a discounted price only.
He is only at 1m of dead money and
twostepgiants : 3/12/2018 1:49 pm : link
We have 5 million with a cut.

He needs to be gone.
He's more done
Gman11 : 3/12/2018 1:50 pm : link
than a steak at Golden Corral only not as tough.

Bye bye.
Do you mean, this Brandon Marshall?
GeofromNJ : 3/12/2018 1:57 pm : link
2017 - 18 receptions, 154 yards, 0 TD's. I'm surprised he hasn't already been cut.
Odds he's a Giant for more than 30 days...
M.S. : 3/12/2018 2:06 pm : link

...zero.

+1

The whole offense was rusty and finally started clicking when all the WRs got injured. Marshall was definitely the most rusty of all the WRs.

I must have watched a different team than everyone else.

I never felt like the offense "got it going" at all.

We sucked.

DRC is only gone because he wouldn't agree to a paycut. I don't think Marshall is in the same situation. I don't think he wants to be anywhere else. I have a feeling that he will be back on a 1 year, 2M deal or something like that.

I'd be on board - just seems like a guy Gettleman is going to want to get rid of.

Older player who didn't show much "want to" last year, got hurt, etc. Just seems like someone DG is going to want to leave with the old regime.

But we'll see.
I don't know.
Keith : 3/12/2018 2:21 pm : link
He tried to keep DRC around. He still needs to fill out the roster and if Eli is still here, they must still think they have a chance of winning something. We are very short at WR, aside from OBJ and Shep, we are very young and inexperienced.

I don't blame BM at all for last year. He had that one really bad drop, but it was a sh*tshow from the jump and he just didn't get any opps. I think he's got something left and can fit a role on this offense.

when did the offense "start clicking"? Was I away that week? That offensive "scheme" was incapable of clicking.

Well Victor, Manning and Marshall were consistently preparing last offseason and have already commenced this offseason. Also reread my post, I didn't say I liked the move, I said it appears they MAY not cut him.

Well, it's great that they tried, but I saw no evidence on the field that they had even read the same playbook. And Marshall had no interest in getting hit to make plays, which kind of ruins the idea of having him as a "big, physical receiver".

Was a five game sample in an offense every receiver struggled with. Again not advocating for it, but Marshall played five games and is relatively cheap.
When the Giants need cap space
Jay on the Island : 3/12/2018 9:33 pm : link
I expect Marshall to be the first to go. Hopefully Dwayne Harris and John Jerry will be gone too.
I can't believe
Doomster : 3/12/2018 10:54 pm : link
he is still on the roster....absolutely no chemistry with
Eli out there.....he looked lost....he's done....

But big question is who replaces him? King, Lewis, Powe, Rudolph? Good drief!
