however he's also very limited athletically, and is solely a Special Teams guy. I suppose we can't have stars at every position. He adds depth and maybe in a 3-4 scheme his limitations can be hidden moreso inside?!
i get it he's a good guy, but dude isn't good enough to make a 53 man roster. Great story and seems like a good guy but we need to stop wasting a roster spot on him...
However, at a time where cap space is very limited and with so many needs, does it make sense to spend precious cap space on a guy who is so limited in his performance?
organizational depth or is he the Mara's secret cabin boy? Â

You still have to fill a roster. He's almost certainly making the veteran minimum, so it's not really spending "precious cap space" if they're spending the minimum that they could spend to fill a roster spot.
... Alec Ogletree better be ready to compete for a middle-linebacker spot.
Come on now....Herzlich... be 31 years old come opening day. On his best day he was an average special teams player. I'd bet he would be a hell of a coach if he wanted to, though.
One of the last few guys on this team with a Super Bowl ring. Incredible story in 2011 but that was a long time ago.
On the field as a LB he is useless, but he is a locker room guy and a useful special teams player. Still not sure why he's back, but I guess it is what it is.
to increase the members of the tribe on the Giants (including those who are only partial members like MH)...this is clearly a sign that we are going with Rosen at #2, Harris Barton as special offensive line consultant and Bisli as the new official snack sponsor.
He cannot play LB anymore. And recall last time I saw this ST guru Â
don't have a roster that is strong enough to carry a guy who can only play special teams. I wish they'd just flat out move on from guys like Herzlich and not even bring them to camp
Bringing him to camp at the vet minimum isn't robbing anyone Â
of the chance to beat him out for a roster spot. Our STs were awful last year, and I'd argue that he was one of our best ST players before that.
So, although I agree that ideally I'd want anyone on the roster to be in competition for a multiple roles, this won't stop that if someone emerges who can do so.
Someone who will never be a starter, isn't going to "wow" anyone ... may not even make the 53 man roster ... but so long as he's around, he will be a positive force and a Gettleman type of player.
hit his peak as a GOOD, not great, special teams player, what? 2 years ago? I hope he agrees to retire as well. He's a vet, yea, a vet who was never a full time starter at any point in his career, so how who's following his leadership? We're not talking about a Steve Tasker here. I thought for sure he would be gone with the new GM and staff. I don't get it.

This....it's a team sport and he is a good guy to have around.
But hey, every team's got one right?

As good a guess as any other, tbh
Umm, the last part could have been left out. I am not super sensitive to stuff but in all honesty that really seems unneeded.

^This. Puzzling move, even with the need to have a roster and the understanding he's probably making the veteran minimum.
So maybe we go with jut the good locker-room guy...

This. An indictment of the current talent level if nothing else.
Yes we have a lot of UFA's, but are we going to fill the roster with Herzlich's, and let guys like DRC go?
Lol
The team has to get away from selfish players who care about
nothing but social media.
