We all wanted a house cleaning

PhilD : 3/13/2018 3:07 pm
It looks like we are getting it. Coaches and Players.
The Coaching Staff has reviewed the players that were on the team last year and made decisions on their value.
They are keeping those they like and letting others walk.
We need to be patient and see what the coaches come up with. So far I cannot find anything I really have a problem with.

I don't know I agree about that. Re-signing guys like Mark Herzlich, John Greco, Jon Halapio, and keeping Eli doesn't suggest house-cleaning.
its only the Eli part thats confusing
FThomas : 3/13/2018 3:14 pm : link
The rest are fringe roster/ST players/backups. We need to fill out a roster with guys they cant all be rookies.

And even the people questioning Ogletree...Keenan Robinson, Cassilas, and Kennard wont be back, and look what Kennard just got. You have to imagine they were expecting that and instead got a better play who costs just a bit more.

More and more though after seeing these QB deals, I think we are going QB at 2.

I think what we do in the first 3 rounds should tell us more. If we draft a QB it's a house cleaning. To me guys like Greco and Halapio are cheap veterans who can actually play a little and my assumption is that they want some veteran leadership around that building after the nonsense that went on last year. The Herzlich signing though, is a complete head scratcher.

Renovation. You know. Getting rid of old useless stuff and replacing it with something new and refreshing. This feels more like a repossession.
True Eric but Gettleman's past indicates
That’s Gold, Jerry : 3/13/2018 3:17 pm : link
he knows how to find OL...Norwell is one example, Seubert is another plus he helped in selection of Diehl and recommended signing O'Hara. Under the radar guys.

So I'm willing to wait...losing Norwell is a blow but that is way too much money for him. I think getting rid of Richburg was an absolute must, perhaps the same with Pugh although I haven't heard anything about him yet.

Ready to let this play out...see who we draft especially if it is Nelson or Hernandez. I still believe we are on the right track.
I really want better scouts, I hope that was part of the overhaul...
Frank from CA : 3/13/2018 3:19 pm : link
The Giants need to draft better in general so we can stop wasting money on crazy Free Agent contracts. Even if the Giants let guys walk there are compensatory picks. The Giants haven't drafted OL or LB well. One wonders if they have talent evaluators on staff. Nobody wants to be in a situation where your season depends on overpaying for a guard, etc. We need value Free Agents (moderate contracts) along with great draft picks and solid UDFA Rookies each pre-season cycle.

Being serious but could Herzlich be a backup long snapper? To me this signing is ST's only. He is not playing in base defense at all...

Gettleman handled the pro personnel department. He did not find Seubert.

How is Herz still on this roster? It's not as a linebacker?
DG
Dragon : 3/13/2018 3:24 pm : link
Is being given all the credit for Norwell but if he is such a great judge of OL why did he not draft him? Now the second question how did he end up starting as a rookie injury, performance, last man standing? We have so many needs just fixing the OL is but a small piece of the puzzle.
Confusing to me is
mrvax : 3/13/2018 3:25 pm : link
no pay cut or outright cut of Marshall yet.
OBJ
Frankie in Flushing : 3/13/2018 3:26 pm : link
If we trade him THEN we can have a true house cleaning. Also, with regard to Marshall, we can't cut him until he passes a physical (same with Harris).

Who is replacing him? I think comparatively he's pretty cheap in relation to whats available.

Not until DG identifies the correct JAG to overpay for along the OL.
Wake up
Fast Eddie : 3/13/2018 3:35 pm : link
DG probably has a deal in place which gets us a bunch of picks that will be used to totally rebuild the infrastructure of this team. We aren’t a piece or two away from competing with the Eagles or else I’d be praying for Barkley at #2.
I would gladly trade a Barkley for two starting guards like Hernandez and Smith, and hopefully the Iowa center Daniels
A second tier running back like Penny, etc. Granted they are not barkley or nelson blue chips but would be some great first steps. We just have too many holes to fill and I’m guessing Shurmer can make something special out of Webb.

Manning (!) , Gallman, Engram, Ellison, Beckham, Shepard, Wheeler, Flowers, Jerry, Greco, Halapio, Harrison, Tomlinson, JPP, Vernon, Okwara, Ogeltree, Goodson, Collins, Thompson, Jenkins, Apple & maybe 8-10 others that are presently with the Giants is pretty weak, actually.

What can be said about the Giants presently is that , when healthy, they have receivers. And that’s about all they have. It’s anazing how bad this roster got over the years .
House Cleaning
Dragon : 3/13/2018 4:11 pm : link
There are like 40 guys left still on this team that need to be gone then we need to check the kitchen see if any are hiding inside there.
See I think
mdthedream : 3/13/2018 4:12 pm : link
we are going to rebuild and try and win at the same time. The Giants have talent on both sides of the ball. Just need to find a couple of pieces and have a good draft.

Thats not a core list that's dreamers list, here is the players deserving a second chance list. Let's start with OBJ, Engram, Shepard, Gallman, Perkins, Webb, Harrison, Tomlinson, Apple, Collins (suspect) and the new guy Ogletree that's all she wrote. That's not even twelve players it's bad folks real bad. The rest need to all be loaded on the shit wagon and sent very far west.

This is my concern. The OL and other parts of the roster are dumpster fires that are going to take at lease a couple of years to fix. I would feel better if they treated this as a raze and rebuild rather than a on-the-fly patch job with Eli.

+1.
1, maybe 2 good players per draft the last 8 years is NOT how you build a team. Neither is 4- 5 jags a draft and buying a D.
I like DGs revised scouting evaluation format, at least the little we know of it.
look fellas...

"our" giants have an incredible uphill battle ahead of them. amazing to fathom the rapidity of the collapse. uncompetitive cap space until 2020. horrible line. slow LBs. no reliable secondary and a certified psycho as the best player on the team (who they can't afford anyway!)

wouldn't be surprised if NYG picked in the top five for the next few years. i certainly hope i'm wrong... but boy......

i've seen it before. don't count on anything miraculous. if they're smart, this is a long term recovery. i'd prepare yourselves emotionally.

Snacks and Tomlinson are a top 5 pair of DTs and Jackrabbit, Collins, Vernon and Snacks were All Pro 2 years ago. So, no, receivers isn't all they have.

I think razing and rebuilding is exactly what they're doing. We aren't building around Eli, he's the caretaker QB we happen to already have on the roster who might have some juice left in him.
