“I am very pleased that we were able to make Jonathan a New York Football Giant,” said Gettleman. “He is a quality runner with power and speed and brings a veteran, professional presence to our locker room. He’s a terrific addition for us at this time.”

Yeah, not so sure about that "speed" anymore...
I wonder if when DG was watching Stewart "tape" he happened to notice Â
And getting younger. Especially when it’s quite clear the team won’t surpass the 2 teams ahead of them inside their own division for likely 2 years, at minimum. Going all in on a declining Nate Solder isn’t optimal either for the same reasoning.

People keep saying shit like this. Have you not been watching football for the past decade?
now we need to hope we can find Brandon Jacobs/Derrick Ward/Ahmad Bradshaw to be ready to handle the majority of the workload early on in the season. Perkins and Gallman might be 2 of those guys.

This roster is in shambles with a 37 year old QB on a serious decline. We have only 5 picks this coming draft and we’ll be dumpster diving for stop gap OL help by Thursday. Yeah, this has quick turnaround written all over it.
I think Stewart was a good pick up...if numbers are favorable Â
I've watched a couple of Stewart games from 2017. He still has a bit of a burst, still runs with a very physical style and can break tackles. Nothing special, but maybe he can be decent in an RB2 role/as a short yardage guy. Should be around the vet min though.
he watched more tape of Stewart than he did of Eli. Did we ever find out if DG watched tape until his eyes started to bleed
It wouldn't have taken long. Watching Brylcream Ben's offense after 1 game would have had that effect. By week 5, DG would be bleeding out from every orifice.
There's performance, but there's also attitude/desire/locker room presence. Gettelman knows this guy, wants him here. Even if the first side is only so-so (at best, probably), the locker-room side is important too.
If they lose Vereen and/or Darkwa and/or Perkins but feel they added a great locker room guy, that's at least some kind of progress.
RE: hey - Dorsey Levens was impressive against the Eagles. Â
and little cap, on a 3-13 team; then, as a part of housecleaning Eli, JPP and OV cut ,plus Snacks, 'Rabbit, and OBJ traded for picks, a great draft, and a SB contender for'19 with a new QB.
There are reasons guys are cut, or signed, that we may not consider.
Locker room environment is important; a vet brings knowledge.
Be patient.
they needed to add a vet presence at RB preferably a big tough back. Stewart is not a starter (unless everyone else steps on their Johnsons). He can help in short yardage and add a pos presence in the locker room - which is almost as important as anything else. If the culture on this team doesn't change than it doesn't matter who the hell they bring in.

I think there's some truth in this, but not to the level where Mark Herzlich deserves to get another contract. If we're saying he's here for "culture", well, he was here last year too. How did that make a difference? You can generate good locker room culture by assembling a talented football team and winning games. You don't have to make a guy a team mascot.

I agree, Dane. This has to be a locker room signing.

Seems to have been enough with Manning.

There's nothing that guys like DG love more than veterans and making young players "earn" something. So no, it wouldn't surprise me whatsoever.
No and Flowers, Jerry, and Jones will be 3/5 of our starting OL
DG's quote didn't have that "he's the guy" vibe.
Nope. In fact, that's exactly what I expect.

Great blocker...protect from blitz
Tough runner....proably our best short yardage guy right now.
Yes. Don't see this as them signing a starter. Gallman should have first shot at that job.
it would surprise me if he were the starter. i like gallman. let stewart darkwa and perkins battle it out for no. 2

Not the worst idea I've heard...
Unless Stewart is bringing Jumbo Elliott and Bart Oates with him, I'm not sure we can hang our hats on that example.
Well uhh hey yabba dabba he's a runner a good runner hard nosed guy and a leader lemme tell ya about 1977.
F F S
Makes this signing dubious. If you wanted a bigger back, maybe Nick Chubb would be available in the third.
I would "toss my remote". This better be a play for Saquon.

LOL, I never get tired of this one. Still makes me laugh to this day.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's a starter week one and not dressing by week 8.
