I guess Walker is serving as 1B insurance too...

Talk about cheap.
Makes a ton of sense...

1. Original move to bring him in on minor league deal was a good, risk-free move to get more 1B depth in case Bird didn't stay healthy. You could have carried Lind on 25 man roster and stashed Austin in AAA (as he still has options). But to carry someone on the 25 man roster as soley a back-up 1B didn't make a lot of sense. Because we have no DH at-bats for a guy like that. Our other bench guys need to be versatile fielders So....

2. When Walker was signed, Lind's ticket out was punched. We already had to DFA Cave to bring in Walker. We sure as heck didn't want to DFA another guy for Lind. And Walker is a more versatile Lind. Walker can play 2B and back-up 1B. Thereby you are using the roster spot more efficiently for back-up 1B.

You still have Austin down in AAA for additional 1B insurance if Bird gets hurt. And now you have Walker instead of Lind as the vet insurance at 1B. If Walker needed to step in for a long period at 1B, even if he had been starting at 2B, it wouldn't be a big deal...as we have a lot of 2B depth with Wade, Torres, Torreyes, and maybe even Estrada later in the season.

Walker doesnít hit enough to play first . His value as a utility man is reduced because he really only helps at second . I would have preferred keeping Espinoza, strikeouts notwithstanding , because he can play short .
I also think they should have designated Austin before Cave. I realize Iím in the minority there. I like Cave. Austin has a mechanical swing that doesnít allow for much reaction time . He will hit the occasional piss homer to right at the Stadium but thatís a reflection of hitting late, not starting inside the ball .

We're not talking about Walker being our 1B. Greg Bird is our 1B. We are talking about Walker being the vet insurance and back-up to Bird at 1B. For which he certainly hits enough to do. And the real discussion here is Walker vs. Lind as a back-up 1B. Even with Walker's versatility in field not being taken into account, nor the fact Lind would require another 40 man spot to be opened...but just looking at them as hitters ONLY. And they are pretty much identical over their careers in BA, OBP, Slugging. And when you pare it down to even just last few years they are still nearly identical.
I expect

Lind wanted to go after the Walker signing. He needs time to latch on someplace.

Mets should sign him. Gonzalez looks completely finished.
Walker or maybe

Mckinney. Mckinney has had a good Spring and I believe he might be leading the team in HRs.
Chance Adams gave up
Beer Man : 3/14/2018 3:01 pm : link
5 earned runs in one inning today. I'm guessing he will be on the next shuttle to AAA. Neither he or Sheffield had good showings this Spring.
Torres also sent to minor camp.

Expected with the alter signing.
Lind never looked like
section125 : 3/14/2018 3:38 pm : link
he had a place here. I'd prefer Austin all day long, but I'll tell you Billy McKinney is really looking good.

Damn, this team is so deep. So many young guys to root for!
Apparently MLB didnít like the Judge

Telling Machado he would look good in pinstripes, so they issued an anti-tampering statement

Not surprised - Iím sure the nature of the chat between Judge and Machado was innocuous and the kind of stuff players kid about often

But you donít tell reporters you said it.

No dessert for Judge for 3 days as punishment
