A longtime cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys recalled a home game when her squad walked near a group of Philadelphia Eagles fans. “We were walking by, waving and smiling, and one guy caught my eye,” said the cheerleader, who requested anonymity because she, like many others, was forced to sign a nondisclosure agreement. “He looked at me and said, ‘I hope you get raped!’ That’s the kind of stuff we’d have yelled at us. Even from our fans, once they get drunk, they yell things, and you’re like, ‘Really?’ It’s part of the job. It comes with it. You’re supposed to take it.” |
I'm sure a squad of Channing Tatums dancing on a field surrounded by drunken women would garner the same kind of attention.
Because people are assholes.
Can we just do away with NFL cheerleading already?
It's truly sad that people have to act like this.
I get it, but it takes a special kind of asshole to wish for a woman's rape. No surprise it was an Eagles fan.
And what's said to the officiating crews.
For many of them it's simply because they love cheerleading... love the game of football themselves... or both. I used to be really good friends with a Redskins cheerleader (she also cheered for the Wizards) and she used to tell me all the time how she's probably do it for free if she had to and looks at cheerleading for the Skins as just a way to make a little bit more money on the side (not to mention the networking opportunities they get by making appearances throughout the year) doing something she enjoys doing while being able to watch a football game for free.
