I am refinishing 700 square feet of red oak in my house and looking to replace the carpet in the living room with engineered flooring.
I have read reviews from many sources and still don’t feel good about the choices out there. I do have two Dobermans so other than vinyl I know scratches are going to be part of the deal.
I considered ceramic tile as a replacement for the carpet, but I really don't want to hassle with 500 square feet of grout.
Any real world experiences by specific brand as far as durability and overall look would be awesome.
Also, are you going over a concrete slab or is there a wood sub-floor?
If concrete, engineered (meaning plywood with a veneer finish is a good choice but use a vapor barrier compound first, otherwise the wood will wick up moisture through the concrete and cup the wood, more so with a solid wood vs engineered. The plywood styled engineered flooring is less susceptible to cupping.
Also I would float it rather than glue it. Trying to remove a glued floor, if you had to, is brutal.
