Seems pretty obvious that the Jets are going QB at 3 - I hope we can all agree on that. It's a basic assumption of this post anyway.
So, assuming that's true, doesn't it make it at least a little more likely that the Giants get a QB at 2?
This is the kind of draft that could have huge repercussions for New York football fans for the next generation. Fans - especially young fans - like a winner. If the Giants whiff (or even get a good player that fails to win championships) and the Jets get a stud QB (that finally brings them back to relevance), it could cause a seismic shift in the landscape of football fans in the tri-state area. Especially given that the Giants would have necessarily passed on the guy. This is really a big draft for both teams, but make no bones about it, even in their own market, the pressure is on the Giants to get this one right.
I think it makes it a little more likely that the Giants, who have the upper hand by picking one pick ahead of the Jets, get a QB that they believe will be better than the one the Jets select.
Generally speaking, the Giants are regarded as a better organization. I hope that trend continues once this draft settles out...
If they don't think any of these QBs have star potential, then they'll be happy to let the Jets grab one.
The Jets are taking a QB regardless. It would be much worse if the Giants took a QB at #2 and he ended up sucking, while the Jets took a QB at 3 and ended up doing amazingly.
Of course, there would be some heavy discord at Met Life Stadium.
I seriously doubt that DG gives what the Jets might do a 2nd thought.
The only consideration that matters is what action makes the Giants a better football team.
According to this logic, Reese should not have been fired because he took Eli Apple instead of selecting Christian Hackenberg....
Aside from Namath, the Jets have had some of the worst quarterback draft moments (picking Ken O'Brien over Dan Marino in 1983) or unluckiest (Packers selecting Favre in 1991 just before Jets took Browning Nagle) of almost any team in NFL history...
There is one thing that will be certain - if one of the quarterbacks in this year's draft will be a bust, it will be whomever the Jets select!
The thinking is this:

#Jets have the #3 pick and are likely to pick their franchise QB for the next however many years. Do you think Mara & Tisch are gonna let that happen without making sure they have their QB of the future? No chance they risk losing control of the NY market. #Giants

if the giants pass on a qb and the jets land a franchise qb in Rosen. In two years if Rosen is leading a resurgent jets team and we still don't have a qb, DG will be gone within the year.

I'm pretty sure Favre was drafted by the Falcons and traded to the Packers. He even through his first NFL pass as a Falcon and it was too himself when it bounced of a lineman's helmet and he caught it, I believe.

Yes, very true. My mistake. Thx.

Can you imagine what the rivalry will be like if the Jets get a stud at qb?
DG doesn't think that way, but Ownership?
Here is the reality.. NYC is a Giants town.. always has been.. always will be..
Also, as long as people are pulling stuff out of thin air since this is all guesswork, assume for a second that Barkley is a generational player, why couldnt the Jets have traded up for Barkley assuming Giants dont want him and Browns would want him at 4? Anything is possible

Absolutely a factor for John Mara, probably not so much for DG and Shurmur.
+1. It forces a team like the Bills to trade up with us if the QB they want is there at 2.

New York is a front running town.. maybe you haven't been around long enough.

The Falcons picked Favre
If the Giants want a QB they will take one at 2. The Jets did not change that part of the equation one bit.
If the Giants don't want one, the would have traded down before, they will still trade down now. But now they get more, because the Jets move made the #2 pick more valuable if teams really want one of these QBs. Teams now know that 3 will be off the board with the first 3 picks. If they want one, pay up! Thank You Jets.
