Schefter: Other teams no longer believe OBJ will be traded

Defenderdawg : 4/11/2018 3:07 pm
“When you talk to teams around the league that have been in touch with the Giants, they no longer believe that the Giants are going to be trading Odell Beckham Jr.,” Schefter said. “There has been a shift here in thinking. I think that there was some thinking across the league that he was available, and I think that the Giants’ actions and words dictated that he was available. But when you talk to some of these teams now, they no longer believe he’s gonna be dealt.

Didn't he just say last week

"theres been a shift in thinking"
The Dude : 4/11/2018 3:09 pm : link
I read that as, "there has been a shift in our "reporting""
i.e the draft is close enough that they've got enough to talk about
bigbluescot : 4/11/2018 3:10 pm : link
with all the private visits.

Good thing that OBJ story covered the week following the owners meetings.
Well yes...but only because a trade for two no 1’s can’t be made
Defenderdawg : 4/11/2018 3:12 pm : link
Or something like that:

“Yeah, I think now, though, in all honesty, I think that trade talk is gonna quiet here. I think the expectation is he’s not gonna be dealt right now,” Schefter said. “And I think that, yeah, the contract of course will be a story, and how they handle it from there, that’s going to be an ongoing issue for both sides to deal with, which is why I think we wound up in the spot we did a couple weeks ago, talking about whether he’d be traded. Because the Giants have to make a decision about whether they want to pay him or trade him. And I think that they’ve made the decision that the trade right now looks like it’s going to be very difficult to pull off, doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, and if you’re not gonna trade him, then at some point you’re gonna have to pay him

...teams that thought they might get a bargain on a future Hall of Famer realized DG is at least as smart as they are.

I’m sure read into Owners comments
UberAlias : 4/11/2018 3:13 pm : link
And thought Giants were set on moving him. Giants were open to listening but obviously weren’t slashing any prices. Good for them

They were “listening” not “shopping”. BIG difference.

This is what I said in the other thread.

It was clear NYG never actually wanted to trade him - just a lot of leveraging and the typical shit that comes along with a player of his ilk about to get a big time deal.

They put feelers out but ultimately just wanted him to show up, show that he's making progress and be a bit of an adult about things and it seems like he took notice and is doing that.

I did think for a short time that shit was just piling up so fast that he was going to wind up run out of town - but it seems to me like things have stabilized and that the focus is probably now shifting towards an extension.
John Mara flat out said he wasn't trading him.
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/11/2018 3:17 pm : link
He could not have been more deliberate or clear.
People just insist on hearing what they want to hear.

Yup, he's the fucking worst.
I never took it to be more
Beer Man : 4/11/2018 3:19 pm : link
than a trail balloon pitched as "if you want to try to blow us away with an obscene offering, we'll listen"
should I pretend to be shocked?

They were never trading him
Schefter should do the same thing with Donald and Mack
UConn4523 : 4/11/2018 3:22 pm : link
maybe if he swings enough times he will connect.
Asking price is absurdly high...
bw in dc : 4/11/2018 3:22 pm : link
In all likelihood teams probably thought Jints Central would come of their heroin high for OBJ and have a more reasonable evaluation.

Maybe as we near the draft a second trial balloon will be floated by Jints Central that is more reasonable...
I'm starting to think only Shefter, Leonard and Myers thought he
Victor in CT : 4/11/2018 3:22 pm : link
would actually be traded.
Schefter misread the situation
AcesUp : 4/11/2018 3:23 pm : link
There's no shift. He thought the Giants were actively trying to trade him and would be willing to compromise to move him. That was never the case. They set a huge price and said they were open to listening from there. BIG difference.

We shouldn't be reasonable, that's the entire point. You want a player of this caliber, than make us an offer that can't be refused. AKA, not happening.
Schefter got played
Brandon Walsh : 4/11/2018 3:34 pm : link
by teams that were trying to drive OBJ out of town on the Giants behalf aka the Rams and 49ers.

Sheftys sources were likely Leonard and Meyers
YorkAveGiant : 4/11/2018 3:35 pm : link
Who have been proven time and time again, to have no inside source. And they just make shit up like Mehta on that other teams beat.

Bingo.

They're not going to lower their demands because they don't actually want to trade him.

"You don't give up on talent"

Our GM just said this not very long ago and this is the player he was referring to.

I actually disagree with that. John Mara could have said "we are not trading him and I expect to work something out with him, but he is under contract this year and he will be playing for the Giants" a line the Giants have used in the past. When pressed, he could have repeated that line over and over again. He did not.
Jesus Christ with this shit.

during this entire off-season process. Enough with this click bait diarrhea... The draft can't come soon enough.
This is very good news...
the mike : 4/11/2018 4:56 pm : link
I think the leaks were coming from Odell's camp all along. The fact that the leaks appear to be shutting down means that the two sides are now negotiating in good faith... which means the Giants are prepared to put a reasonable package together and Odell is off of his "Kirk Cousins money" position. My guess is that they will agree on an "Antonio Brown like" contract...

Hopefully sooner rather than later..

Do get paid a fee each time you type "Jints Central?" It's a really goofy term and you use it obsessively as though you are really hoping it becomes a thing. Just curious.

Schefter was reporting what at the time seemed to be trending, just doing his job.

It wasn't like he was trying to created news.

For some the thought that OBJ might be traded caused much consternation, so they need someone to be pissed at.

Doesn t mean these guys aren t doing their best to break a story
That’s an odd take
UConn4523 : 4/11/2018 5:47 pm : link
Schefter does this with players not on the Giants so it’s not exclusively a Beckham topic. He has the reputation of throwing shit at a wall and hoping it sticks, as well as going though illegal means to break a story.

He absolutely tried creating his own story, he’s done it a lot.

Yeah... Schefter should own being wrong... but like someone said above... he won’t because he doesn’t have to. Especially since you have some who will blame all the talk on Beckham... the Giants... or anyone else besides who is actually to blame.
His intel at the time was garbage

was reporter driven. I was never one to believe in fake news but wow this really opened my eyes. A couple of reporters took Mara's comments, that were very typical for the question asked, and just ran with it in a direction that Mara wasn't going. Then the snowball started and everyone jumped on.

What a joke this was.
