Mets 2017 first round pick David Peterson pitched in extended spring training yesterday and is expected to join the Columbia Fireflies soon.
Multi-inning use has been the norm for their minor league relievers even predating Mickey. For context last year Smith pitched more than one inning 4 of his 11 appearances post coming over, Uceta pitched more than 1 20 times last year, Bashlor 7 times
The Mets' need both a short term and long term solution behind the plate.
I think that D'Arnaud can not be counted on in the future.
Also very excited to see Kevin Plawecki full time
If we need a upgrade its pretty much writing on the wall for Lucroy at ASB.

agree across the board. It's also not Lucroy or bust. Probably several similar veterans out there on losing teams that will be available and at minimum better than TDA defensively and passable offensively.

Catcher is the one position around baseball that there really isn't a team with an excess of prospects.
Dan, in the thread for yesterday's game I had suggested speaking with Rockies about Tom Murphy since they have Ianetta/Wolters blocking him in the majors

would be the one team that had legit C depth with Grandal, Barnes, Ruiz and Will Smith. Doubt the Dodgers are too eager to give up Barnes however and Ruiz/Smith wouldn't help the 2018 Mets.

The Mets actually supposedly were very high on Murphy during his draft year so that's not a bad idea at all. He's a "local" guy too.
Grandal is tearing the cover off the ball and hitting for avg now. He's been one of their best hitters, Barnes has become an afterthought. Their pen is hurting too

There is no "afterthought" when it comes to catchers. Grandal has topped 400 ab's once his career. % chance the Dodgers are giving up Barnes for one of the Mets relievers. It's not as if the Mets have proven arms out there. Barnes 2.5 fWAR last year. That's a pipedream.
Almost certainly. If he has the surgery yes and if he doesn't teams will run at will.
might explain his "demotion", though I suspect the Mets could get in trouble if they were to be called on it.

Did not realize Barnes was that productive last year. Kinda just saw him as a prototypical backup type who could move to the infield at some point.

Russ Langer, Las Vegas 51s voice, says Brandon Nimmo would've arrived to the 51s sooner but he stayed in New York to have an "issue" with his hand checked out.

You did! Thought he was being held out because of trade discussions or something! Lol
