Hopefully Austin comes back in 5 games and continues to help out his team like he has.
MLB weather
Jints in Carolina : 4/12/2018 6:39 pm : link
Rain moving quickly to BOS, arrive as early as 7:30 now. 2 possibilities: a) a delay (if it occurs is likely earlier) and b) could they delay the start of the game now? I think that is a real possibility. PPD threat has to be raised as well, to 10-15%
5 is BULL

Someday, someone has to explain to me how it is fair that a player gets a suspension costing multiple starts, while a SP get a suspension that amounts to a single start getting moved back a few days. Particularly when the SP started an altercation by deliberately hitting a player with a pitch. This is BS, how else can players defend themselves when pitchers don't have to stand in the batters box themselves.

The pitching is definitely suspect and I blame Cashman for that. I'll praise the good moves he's made but I'll also blame him for not doing more for the pitching staff.

But freaking out about the offense and Boone so early in the season is silly. If they were 2-9 right now then I could maybe see it. But Boone could settle in and learn the players better and the lineup is banged up, plus half of them are just cold and it's still early.

No excuse for this pitching, though. There's no excuse for not going for Cole. Gray is a #4 or #5 guy and they went into the season acting like he's a 2 or 3. They need another 1/2 type.

Another bullpen killing move by Boone. When Cashman got Gray from Oakland his primary attribute was that he was a horse. He wasn't lights out there, but he pitched innings and went deep in games. Here Boone gives him the early hook two games in a row.

I read that Boone is the first manager since Lou Pinella that didn't have minor league experience . It shows. Anybody that can remember those dark days saw Pinella abusing the pitchers and making bonehead moves. Another thing: Torreyes hit something like .350 against lefties last year and he's been hitting well this year. Didn't Mr. Analytics see that ? Why was he not in the lineup against Sale and Price ?

I can live with 6-7 on April 12, but I was scratching my head when Cashman hired this guy. Right now it looks like a dreadful mistake.

The Yankees were never going to add Verlander's
arniefez : 4/12/2018 9:46 pm : link
contract. Hal is getting under the 197 no matter what. As far as Cole goes most people who post here didn't want him and didn't want to trade Andujar for him.
Looks like Gray got an undeserved reputation as a high quality pitcher
xman : 4/12/2018 9:47 pm : link
and he is if you send him out against bottom dwellers like the Marlins. Guy would look like Koufax.

Boone looks over his head. Glad he can communicate with the press and players.

Judge looks like he is taking another step if that's possible . Last year I think Sales ate him up. This year it was the other way. Maybe just luck but I wouldn't bet on it.

Did still growing and improving. Its early but he really look more and more like the real deal

as i said on another yankee thread...
firedbytheboss : 4/12/2018 10:46 pm : link
... Sonny Gray is not a true #1 or #2 for the Yankees. He is a borderline #2 and probably a good 3/4. Of course he is better than this. He is good pitcher, though probably not in the Verlander/Cole class. Cashman got him because he was cheap, not because he was better than the other guys on the market, Darvish/Verlander. We got the cheap guy. But that's ok if he's a mid rotation guy.

If Sonny Gray is the Yanks' second best pitcher this season we're not winning anything this year.
Gray is a 3 when he's on.
illmatic : 4/12/2018 10:53 pm : link
He's really more like a #4. I'm just hoping they can swing a trade for a guy who can be right up there with Severino as a potential ace type. Sev/?/Tanaka/Gray/Sabathia would be ideal. There are always injuries so Montgomery would get plenty of action too for those who love him.

He's really more like a #4. I'm just hoping they can swing a trade for a guy who can be right up there with Severino as a potential ace type. Sev/?/Tanaka/Gray/Sabathia would be ideal. There are always injuries so Montgomery would get plenty of action too for those who love him.

well let's face it.. the yanks arrived early last year. they got lucky. this was supposed to be the year they started to come around. And now we have all these expectations. Do you want to give up the farm for an ace? Cause that is what it is going to cost. I don't. I want to see them build this thing out a little. Let's think long term .. that's my opinion anyway.

to make it respectable. Man did it look like Wade had zero chance against Kimbrel.

There is no such thing as a 23 year old AAAA player who has already played at the MLB level.
The return of hicks lol

Like this guy is some sort of good player this team was missing. He stinks
And we miss
nygnyy274 : 4/13/2018 6:47 am : link
Todd Frazier and I don’t want to hear how he bats .200.. he plays a great 3rd base and is a leader we need that on this team right now.
re Gray, same old shit. nibble, nibble and nibble. hit walk walk
Victor in CT : 4/13/2018 8:33 am : link
takes forever to deliver, puts the defense to sleep. Cone was very enlightening about him not even thinking about the inside corner fastball with 2 strikes. He couldn't hit a spot for anything last night. Gary down and in, Sonny up and away. WPs. UGH. Not a fan.

Wade looks bad, but he's still a kid. The Bird injury is really hurting them. Bird at 1B lets Walker play 2B, puts Wade on the bench. Stanton needs to be a DH at Fenway. The only thing worse than having him in LF there would be having him in RF. Could you imagine him trying to navigate the RF corner?! On the plus side, he had another hit.

They didn't seem to have much fire last night. I thought they would be a little more "up" after the fight and big win.

Funny didn’t see you comment on the thread when the Yanks won Wednesday. Guess you only jump on to whine when they lose.

Gerritt Cole sporting an ERA under 1.00 in Houston, by the way.
Yankees have to wait till Wednesday to call up Torres.
Ace718 : 4/13/2018 10:03 am : link
Since he's on the 40 man roster he does not qualify for an extra year of team control if he's called up before the season is 20 days old.

That's okay. Another few weeks of reps and ABs at SWB can only help him.
I also think it wise not to rush him up after a couple of poor games by Wade, make it look like he's a savior. No need to pressure the kid like that. If he's ready, I think May 1 makes sense.
Yanks next 5 are against Detroit and Miami
mfsd : 4/13/2018 10:13 am : link
Should be a good chance for them to right the ship a bit. No rush with Torres

and go stand on second base the second the clock strikes midnight on Wednesday.
Yanks need to lengthen the lineup
xman : 4/13/2018 11:29 am : link
Gardner, Hicks, Walker and 3rd base are 250- 260 hitters. Not good enough.

Walker's range at 2b seems limited. The pirates were spending 17 million a year for this guy. If that dosn't say the system was broken I don't know what would.

If only Andujar could make good.
Yankees are tied for second in the AL in runs

and second worst in the AL in runs allowed. Not sure how anyone thinks their problem is the offense.

The offense has been all or nothing so far this season. Stats don't show it but watching all the games so far this season shows the offense is struggling.

Nobody has argued against the fact that the pitching has been terrible.

you've got a good team, they'll come around, it's too early in the season to worry. Maybe Gray will even turn around. As a Sox fan, it should be a fun and I'm sure back-and-forth season. Let's all enjoy the ups and inevitable downs....

Says the guy who said Aaron Hicks sucks, the day before Hicks had a monster game to carry the Yanks.

But of course you were nowhere to be found on last nights game thread.
