To add to your last point, Solder alludes to the "cold" atmosphere of the Patriots organization. He stated that depending on how you practiced that day or answered a question would depend on how you were treated that day. One day you are a pro-bowler, the next you feel like you can be cut.
Not to say the "all business" approach is wrong as the Patriots have the hardware to back up their program, but it can wear on a person. Nate has already won 2 rings and is recognized league wide for his abilities. I'm not insinuating that he came just for the money and not to be challenged. But with the equal/better medical care for Hudson and a new environment, it can be the necessary incentive to reinvigorate a player.
but seeing a OT only plays so long and you are looking at health issues a couple million dollars can go a long way in medical expenses. Also he feels the best thing for his own mind and family might be to get out of that environment.

Of course it can. I don't care how much these guys make. Ever dollar counts for most of the non Brady/Payton Manning type of players.
With the tumors returning the care he needs is in NYC. the hospitals, the cancer care, is here, and the main impetus for him leaving. Did you read the entire article?

Boston’s Children’s Hospital is the #1 Children’s Hospital in the country according to US News. Dana Farber is the 4th best Cancer Specialty Hospital in the country. He didn’t leave New England because NY hospitals are better. He left New England for money and football reasons.
but he specifically talks about 90 minutes drives for chemo. Assuming he moves to Manhattan he’s have essentially no commute for medical attention and even Westchester would be a half hour.
I don’t necessarily think it was for better care but it sounds like distance played a factor.
