Bleacher Report Article on Eric Reid...

Capt. Don : 4/13/2018 12:31 pm
There was a lively discussion the other day on the subject and I happened upon this article on BR today.

I know NO ONE with asshat info relating to the Giants but I do know a West Coast guy with connections and he says that Reid was BY FAR the best safety available in FA and in his opinion there is no other explanation than it is because of the kneeling. He said it was because Reid was the first to embrace Kaepernick - that is the difference between him and other guys who kneeled but still got signed.

He was almost over the top in explaining how great of a locker room guy Reid is as well as a player.

I still say it comes down to money
Giantsfan79 : 4/13/2018 12:35 pm : link
Reid wants $7-8 million a year. If he dropped his demands a few million, I'd bet he's getting signed. As it stands now teams are content to see if they can get a cheap safety in the draft before looking at Reid.
Reid is looking for

8+ mil a year, a lot for a guy who has missed a bunch of games the last 2 years
I didn't see the conversation from the other day, but i could imagine
Mellowmood92 : 4/13/2018 12:54 pm : link
it being "lively". There's no way to avoid the politics of the issue and personally I'm surrounded by and interact predominantly with like-minded individuals, so I don't have a good perspective of those who would support the fact that this player is still un-signed.

I just can't help but wonder if the Owners are entirely tone-deaf to their fan base, or if they truly believe that the majority - NOT the loudest, support black-balling a player for these actions.
So what if it is due to him kneeling?
AnyoneButPhilly : 4/13/2018 1:00 pm : link
Ownership shouldn't be forced into offering this guy a job when his actions polarized the NFL fan base. People were boycotting the league and burning jerseys and season tickets over players kneeling.
I guess the loss of the money trumps
SomeFan : 4/13/2018 1:01 pm : link
the kneeling as it should.
Here is the real bottom line...
bw in dc : 4/13/2018 1:02 pm : link
Reid is an slightly above average S, in a weak free agency crop for safeties, seeking money that isn't commensurate with his skill or most teams' needs.

My guess is the kneeling thing is somewhat of a factor, but it's not the driving factor when you look at his total profile.
I would take a gamble on him
prdave73 : 4/13/2018 1:08 pm : link
for sure if cheap. Giants should look into imo.

Think DG and Abrams look into everybody. No news mean they did not like what they saw.
Giants do not have cap space for him
ZogZerg : 4/13/2018 1:25 pm : link
Some of you act like you never heard of the cap and/or don't realize we have to pay big money to keep our own safety - Collins.
Theres a 3/22 interview with him that says he isnt kneeling anymore

"I’m just going to consider different ways to be active, different ways to bring awareness to the issues of this country and improve on the issues happening in this country,” he said. “I don’t think it will be in the form of protesting during the anthem. I say ‘during’ because it’s crazy that the narrative changed to we were protesting the anthem and that wasn’t the case. I think we’re going to take a different approach to how we’re going to be active.”

Here's a thought, Eric..... protest on your own time, and not on your company's time ...and using the equity/media power they created, not you, to boot. I dont know why this is so difficult for these employees to understand... they just continue to get terrible advice.

I'm not in the owners meetings, but i have a really hard believing there is collusion going on here. With his salary demands plus all the media comments he is still making, a lot of teams probably prefer to give him a 'one year' prove it deal... up to Reid if he can live with that offer.

This, They also need to sign the upcoming draft class and work out extensions for Beckham AND Collins. They aren't flush with cap room at the moment to begin with.
I’m pretty sure I heard

Bucky brooks say something about a lot of concussions
there are other safeties of his calibur

Please stop being rational.

You don't think that NFL teams are companies? They are...and I think it's people like you that miss that point when talking about this issue. A few years back Ozzie Guillen got fired as manager of the Marlins when he spoke of Castro and the Cuban regime in a positive light...in Miami. That hurt the company...had nothing to do with baseball. In fact, if it was an auto body repair shop in Poughkeepsie, Reid's actions might not have been nearly as damaging.

I've said many times on these threads
bceagle05 : 4/13/2018 5:23 pm : link
that I'm sympathetic to the league and its teams - they're in an impossible spot and have mostly tried to meet players halfway. I brought up the auto repair shop because workers there - or any random business - don't have the power NFL players do. The NFL hasn't tried to restrict players from protesting on company time because it's a battle they'll lose, and they know it. That's it. Can they blacklist Kaep? Sure, he sucks anyway. Eric Reid? Good player, but maybe not worth the money and hassle. If Aaron Rodgers decided to sit during the anthem the Packers would have a La-Z-Boy recliner on the sidelines so he's comfortable.

If the NFL wants worker bees, fine, I'm all for it. All football all the time. Don't play the anthem, don't pimp these guys out in your communities, don't make them wear pink or olive drab socks to support your PR stunt of the week.
There isn’t another S of his caliber out there
KWALL2 : 4/13/2018 6:04 pm : link
He’s the best and can help in many ways because he can also play LB.

He said he would take his rookie deal salary in the 5s for 1 year.

If Giants were smart they would completely disregard the kneeling BS and try and sign him now at a discount.

He can play with Collins.

The Giants don't have enough money for the rookies or any camp fodder right now. Eric Reid is not signing for $2 mill per and that is about all the Giants have.

I wonder whether any of you who are supporting teams
yatqb : 4/13/2018 10:59 pm : link
choosing not to even audition Reid Or Kaepernick buy the proposition that this is somehow disrespecting our troops or ther country. And how many believe in the right to protest, and support "Black Lives Matter" since that is not done at an emplyer's place of business.

My sense is that there is a ton of hypocrisy here, and some "true Americans" don't really believe in the Constitution or Bill of Rights, unless those who protest have views congruent with yours.
