Brewers Lineup

I feel like this will be a real tough test for Harvey tonight. Chase Anderson was damn good last year. The Mets have the best record in baseball though! Lets fucking keep this streak going! LGM!
I predict Harvey gets ripped

I have zero faith in him

Im kind of worried about him too
ZGiants98 : 4/14/2018 6:19 pm : link
To be honest, but hey... if he pitches a good game tonight the rotation will basically be solidified going forward. I'm rooting for him.
Also if we win tonight
ZGiants98 : 4/14/2018 6:20 pm : link
we might keep winning through the Nats series. I see Thor taking the finale tomorrow and I like how we match up with the Nats with deGrom, Wheeler, and Matz going. One game at a time though!

I think if Wheeler keeps pitching lights out and Harvey continues to be up and down they will send Vargas to the bullpen. A mediocre Harvey as the 5th SP still likely has more upside than Vargas as the year goes on but we'll see.
Not a Mets fan...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/14/2018 7:02 pm : link
But what a season thus far for you guys. I hope they stay healthy and win the division. I've never liked the Nats. So far, this season resembles '86 with the Mets, BoSox,'Stros, and Angels all beasting. Hopefully for y'all it has the same ending.

They are different injuries but its still the same arm. He threw more innings then recommended and immediately came into the following season with a loss of sensation in his arm in spring training.

They probably are related.
I mean one is related to an elbow and the other is vascular

Again. I am not saying they are directly related. But if you push and tax your arm long enough past the recommended amount and immediately show up the following season with numbness in your arm it likely had something to do with his pitching. I doubt it happened in the offseason playing blackjack.

Obviously, we'll never know for sure.

Harvey isnt a good pitcher, unfortunately. Lord knows Id love him to be one. But the occasional quality start wont make him a good pitcher. Hopefully Mickey can see this and keeps his leash short.
Harvey s future lies in the pen

One inning at a time.
Is Anderson really one of the best pitchers in the league?
PhiPsi125 : 4/14/2018 9:42 pm : link
I mean, he had a nice year last season but the three years prior to that were thoroughly mediocre. Does one good season (out of four) make you one of the best pitchers in the league?
Im definitely going off his most recent year
ZGiants98 : 4/14/2018 9:47 pm : link
But he's only 30 and if you are throwing 150 pitches that's a big enough sample to be the most relevant. Pitchers learn new pitches, change things, so Im not sure what he did years ago is particularly relevant.

His biggest issue is not being able to deep into a season. He's been stuck at around 150 innings which isnt good.
Does Mickey putting in Robles
Gmanfandan : 4/14/2018 9:49 pm : link
Signal that he's a superstitious manager? (aren't they all) Hansel with two reliever wins already, guns coming up and a "Ya gotta believe" attitude?

You dont think that a pitchers almost entire body of work is relevant? Yes, pitchers learn new pitches to throw but its also not common to have it just click at 30 years old. Admittedly, I didnt see him pitch much because I only caught the end of his night. Just thought it was interesting...never knew much about Anderson.

Oh well...cant win them all.

moespree : 4/14/2018 10:07 pm : link
40s at night for the 3 games at home next week. In fact it may even get into the 30s Monday night as the night goes on. Way below average at this point.
Can't win them all, on to the next one
Eric on Li : 4/14/2018 10:20 pm : link
Harvey's velocity may improve as it warms up but it won't change enough to stop him from needing to evolve as a pitcher. The bigger impact of the cold weather is probably more in that he needs to start getting a feel for other pitches to see how he can get other teams out consistently without the upper 90's heat. I'm still pretty optimistic because he has enough velocity if he can start figuring out a few other pitches.

Robles is who we thought he is. Sewald looked pretty good. Offense has cooled off. I'm already sick of Lobaton so hopefully Nido can catch lightning in a bottle for a week.
Eh, I think that using weather as an excuse is weak. It sucks
PhiPsi125 : 4/14/2018 10:27 pm : link

It sucks for everyone, but any variable is harder for someone who is actively changing their game. Harvey coming back is like Tiger coming back after all his injuries. It's gonna take time.

Anthony Kay, Mets first Rder from 2016, had a good night (even better then final line indicates) in his second pro start for Columbia:

6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, 5 K, 89 pitches/58 strikes

The lefty topped out at 96 mph and two runners he left scored off reliever.

Mets fans should start getting excited about him. Fastball was good last night, also spun a few good curveballs and sliders. If he stays healthy he could move fast.
I think we should add Ramos.
ZGiants98 : 4/15/2018 11:44 am : link
It makes the most sense. He likely doesn't cost a ton. An added benefit would be he knows the Nats pitchers and might like getting back in the division.

I dont see why not. But assuming we have a buffer of about 10-15 million do you want to blow that all now? Do you want to wait until the deadline and see what other needs we might have? Just because you have the 10 million doesn't mean you shouldn't still be prudent. Maybe the Rays would eat some if we gave up an interesting prospect? I don't know the right answer there. Ramos would be a nice add but I still might be trying to add Realmuto at the deadline if he's in play because he could be our catcher for multiple seasons. We also might have other injuries by July 31st we have to address.

Heres the true question, and there is no right or wrong answer. Is Ramos better for the next three weeks worth the offset of not having an extra $10mm available in the budget come late July? Thats the true pros and cons that need to be weighed.

you also have to factor in what you actually think of Plawecki as a starting catcher. The guy has a .219 career average and a .614 OPS, plus is a very average defensive catcher. Ramos has a .736 career OPS and has had years in the .800s. Plus he's a better defensive catcher. So you're not making a comparison just for the next few weeks, but the season - Do they really consider Plawecki a ML starting catcher. I don't. In terms of down the line flexibility. I don't know, it's a good point. But we should get out ahead of the game as much as we can now, and maybe we build more revenue through winning giving us more flexibilty anyway.

Actually it was 55 degrees at game time last night with a little breeze. And you mentioned the weather excuse (and of course the right strikezone excuse) well before any Harvey complaining began. Either way, not worth getting into a huge back and forth over. He is what he is. And I cant wait until hes gone. Hopefully to a team we play so that we can tee off him also lol.

they shed 4 million in salary, and they have the chance to flip Harvey down the line for more if he turns it around. Starting Pitching is more valuable at Trade Deadline than catchers, unless there is another major injury to a contender at that position.

Gotcha. Didnt see that. If they want Harvey for Ramos they can have him. I just find that extremely unrealistic.

you also have to factor in what you actually think of Plawecki as a starting catcher.

You DO realize who youre asking those questions to, right?

Shecky wouldn't trade Plawecki straight up for Posey.

Perfectly reasonable request. Maybe throw in Kevin Maitan as well.
