Knicks arefinalizing meetings with their top 3 candidates, fizdale, jackson and stackhouse
Hate to be that guy, but Woj's tweet described them as "three of the top candidates," not the top three. I hope Stackhouse and Blatt are the top candidates, with Wright as the wild card.
rolodex has 5 names in it. Woody did some good things but he was completely over matched in the Pacers series. I'd like to think we can do better. Or at least get a guy who has the potential to be better.
RE: RE: RE: Why do you not mention the other tweet?

Man, you are a Knicks homer - but that isnt as news worthy imo as all of those names have been linked to the job for awhile now.
What did I say that was being homer?
And please tell us again how donnie Walsh did a good job please...
Donnie was brought in for 2010, the idea was to free up cap space for the 2010 FA class. He did that, but couldnt close unfortunately. In fact, I remember BBI being livid with the fact that Woj reported the optics of Donnie being in a wheelchair as a negative re: the sales pitch to LeBron. It was always about LeBron, everything from the DAntoni hire onward was with an eye towards LeBron & the fans brought in.
When I said I would be pissed if they hired jackson...
I must be a homer when I said van gundy should not be hired because it would feel like a band aid hire...
I must be a homer when I said donnie Walsh sucked as gm...
I must be a home because I said 2012 when they won 54 games was not a fluke and fun to watch..
My apologies. To your credit you are taking a wait and see approach with Perry. Im not sold yet personally & I find it concerning that Steve Mills appears to have a job for life.

Look do I take the positive spin absolutely, just the way I am with all my teams...
At this point if the Knicks go out and trade for a 32 year old over the hill player I would be livid..
They are talking patience let's see if they actually flow through
There was a time that Knicks basketball was the most popular sport in NYC. The early 70's the mid 90's the Knicks were more important than any other team to most NYC fans. Now they've become a sad laughing stock for almost 2 decades and there's no hope it will ever get better. It's a NYC sporting tragedy.
Woodson was the guy who coached the Knicks to their
But I agree with you guys, time for some new blood and a fresh approach, not a retread
I overall agree - for me it's a BIG no to Woody, and we have to err on the side of new blood / understanding of the 'millennial player' if you will. Still as always I think it's about the sum of the parts. So for my part there's reason to buy into a Stackhouse, Wright type. Also think there's value to a Fizdale tho there's similarity to Woody the first time around. I want to like Jackson, but if the link below is right.........no
And I get the "JVG hasn't coached in a decade" comment, yet IMO he won't be the non-adaptive type tho he's made his mistakes. His NYK & Houston teams were run differently and he did the most with whatever he had - lots of injuries between his two best players in Yao & Tmac for ex but successful & fundamentally sound overall (like his NYK teams). Often got the most out of even less talented players IMO
The BIGGGGGEST part: he admits his mistakes and regrets leaving NY too soon, and seems to think - of all the MOST important things in NYK - playing nice w/ Dolan is something he needed to do better. This seems NOT a knock on ownership but a realization of what needs done in a consistently tough situation with JD on top. Doesn't matter if he loves / hates / respects - more important the next coach does this. Even Phil could not...waaaaaaaaay unlikely a new coach makes that happen. And we can always cut our losses on JVG if needed down the road. IMO worth the risk on a high profile & great coaching name, for good reason
Also I think he would be an awesome coach for a KP. D first, fundamentally sound, grinder about work ethic...currently even a team like GS plays great D, really just plays the game right overall. We need a coach who gets that
wojespn on his podcast today said Knicks want a coach who its fans know and have a connection to and can get behind. This could explain some reasoning behind interest in Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, and Mike Woodson -- ex-Knicks head coaches and player.
you know what fans want to get behind? A winning team. WTF kind of a connection to we have to Mark Jackson - who's most relevant moments as a Knick were 30 years ago?

Amen. What a disheartening thought if thats true.
Lets by all means bring back John Starks now and then so the fans can cheer for him and enjoy some 90s highlights. But can they please hire a coach whos ready to coach a young team in todays NBA?
I'm of the belief he'll never coach in the NBA again unless we hire him.
Just like Steve Mills and Allan Houston would never hold front office positions anywhere but here, and Joakim Noah wouldn't have gotten a long-term contract anywhere but here. And on and on...
said they wanted a coach who can connect with today's player, is intellectually curious (analytics) and understands he's part of a "team" with the front office. Jackson and Van Gundy display none of those qualities. If one of them gets the job, we'll know it's been done just to appease the masses.
But woj said nothing close to what was said before...
He said the fans want a guy who they know and get behind, he said Knicks should find the right guy for them and not worry about who the fans know or want...
Said nothing like the Knicks are looking for someone who the fans know and like
Also could be a few reasons Woodson is getting interview
The comments coming from Perry and Mills have me really worried about the off-season and their leadership. They keep directly referencing fans views and their interactions with them. The last thing I want my team to be worried about is pleasing or listening to fans. You know what all fans like? Winning. This on top of Woj's comments about the Knicks wanting the coach to have a connection to the coach.
And how about Mills preaching patience and "rebuilding the right way". So why did you sign Hardaway to that ridiculous deal? Why didn't you move Lee or O'Quinn at the deadline? The Willy trade?
I just have zero faith in Mills and Perry has proven zero to show he's a good GM. I still can't believe they gave up a 2nd round pick to sign this guy.
Here's the coaches I would be targeting:
Wright
Clifford
Budenholzer
Messina
Stackhouse
Monty Williams

Expected...
So right now, fizdale, stackhouse, jackson, blatt and Woodson all set...
Expected except Woodson, what is his contract situation with clippers?
I think it is more the relationships he seems to have with players, everyone seems to love him and when he was fired Memphis got a lot of backlash...
That seems to be the big reason
I must be a homer when I said van gundy should not be hired because it would feel like a band aid hire...

Trying to rationalize a very random interview is hard...
Just like Steve Mills and Allan Houston would never hold front office positions anywhere but here, and Joakim Noah wouldn't have gotten a long-term contract anywhere but here. And on and on...
Scott Perry has nothing to show hes a good GM. I have zero faith in this Mills/ Perry leadership.
I dont think Houston is in front office anymore, could be wrong though...
I think Craig Robinson took his job, Perry hired a bunch of his own guys when he was hired
He said the fans want a guy who they know and get behind, he said Knicks should find the right guy for them and not worry about who the fans know or want...
Said nothing like the Knicks are looking for someone who the fans know and like
2. They could be doing his agent a favor by putting his name out there again to be a head coach..
3. It shows that a former coach would come work for Knicks again, when the perception is how awful the Knicks management are..
4. Could be interviewing him to see if he has any interest in being with Knicks as assistant to a young coach
And how about Mills preaching patience and "rebuilding the right way". So why did you sign Hardaway to that ridiculous deal? Why didn't you move Lee or O'Quinn at the deadline? The Willy trade?

I missed the part where he was hired
