NFT: Devils to Start Schneider, Throw Kinkaid Under the Bus

PatchoguePete : 4/16/2018 1:32 pm
What...a..joke. You're going to tell me that Keith Kinkaid is the reason why the Devils are down. None of those goals were his fault what-so-ever. The defense in front of him has been horrendous, there have been horrendous turnovers, and they even kicked a puck into their own net. At this point, I wish for nothing but pain and agony for the Devils tonight. To blame Kinkaid is a disgrace and John Hynes should be fired for making this decision. Kinkaid led the team to the playoffs. Lets go Tampa. I hope they embarrass this joke of a franchise.
Um. Ok.
LarmerTJR : 4/16/2018 1:36 pm : link
Doesn’t matter what you believe. Corey came in and played well.

Embarrassing? Go Tampa? If you are rooting for Tampa you obviously never cared if NJ won.
are they blaming him....
BillKo : 4/16/2018 1:36 pm : link
...or just trying to maybe motivate the players in front of the goalie?
I hate myself for responding to an obvious troll,
Mr. Bungle : 4/16/2018 1:37 pm : link
but your undying devotion to Kinkaid is pretty odd.
They are desperate for a spark
Jay on the Island : 4/16/2018 1:38 pm : link
Why Hynes keeps playing Moore so much is beyond me. The defense has really played poorly so far and they need to make that a priority in free agency. They have a couple of intriguing prospects in Josh Jacobs and Colby Sissons but I expect the Devils to go hard for Carlson in FA.
Schneider played like
PatchoguePete : 4/16/2018 1:39 pm : link
hot steaming garbage most of the season. Yeah, lets go to him.

Keith Kinkaid (in 38 games): .913
Cory Schneider (in 40 games): .907

Just a massive difference between the two.
Couldn't disagree more
Chris684 : 4/16/2018 2:20 pm : link
Hynes went out of his way to say this isnt all about Keith.

Schneider is of #1 goalie quality. It would be irresponsible of the organization not to turn to him at this point.
While I would start Kinkaid tonight please don't confuse me
Stu11 : 4/16/2018 4:31 pm : link
with the dufas that started the thread. Nobody was "thrown under the bus". A change like this is meant to spark and wake up the team in front of him. I agree Jay- Moore has been basically a zero, but at least he provides mobility and can join the rush. Why the hell Lovejoy stays in there is beyond me. He's a total waste, especially in this series which is all about speed of pace and puck movement. The guy is a slug. I know Mueller f'd up at the end of the first period game 1 but he needs to be in there instead of that dinosaur fossil. Oh well headed out to the Rock with my son and we are pumped for some playoff hockey!
Panic move
pjcas18 : 4/16/2018 4:38 pm : link
a very wise coach once said you're not in trouble in the playoffs until you lose at home.

that wise coach? Bruce Boudreau.

I believe this to be true even though Boudreau has a sub .500 playoff record.
I just find it hard to call
Chris684 : 4/16/2018 4:58 pm : link
this a "panic move" given the status of CS. Yea, he's not Marty but he is a good goalie and the regular starter on the team.

I for one, like the idea of not going down without seeing if Schneider can provide a lift. Again, not totally Kinkaid's fault but that's a bunch of goals in 2 games.
If they didn't start Schneider games 1 and 2
pjcas18 : 4/16/2018 5:02 pm : link
then this is a panic move. It means they think they're losing because of the goalie, regardless of what the coach says.

I thought it was ballsy of Hakstol to stick with Elliott after getting shellacked by a TD in game one and he was rewarded with a W in game 2 and a stellar performance by Elliott.

The Devils are the worse team in this series, it's not debatable, and now that they're at home they should go with their best goalie, if that's Schneider he should have started games 1 and 2.

If it's not Schneider, this is a panic move.
Pjcas I get your point
Chris684 : 4/16/2018 5:25 pm : link
But there is a bit more grey area here. Injury recovery, playing the hot hand, etc.
Well I think
pjcas18 : 4/16/2018 5:30 pm : link
getting Johannson back might be more meaningful than replacing Kinkaid. Schneider has been awful for a long time, I'm not a Devils fan, but he was my fantasy hockey goalie (one of them) so I watched a lot of Devils games and he was just bad. No idea what was wrong with him. I expected him to be among the better goalies in the league.

He hasn't won in 2018, right?

Anyway, at home, with their best lineup, and the Lightning semi-depleted (no Callahan who helps on PK), Devils have their best chance for a W.

I hope it goes to OT.

Need to stop the Lightning PP.
The good news is
Jay on the Island : 4/16/2018 5:50 pm : link
Marcus Johnansson is back and on the 2nd line with Zacha and Maroon. The bad news is that Lovejoy is back in the lineup after a horrific game 2. They would be better off playing Santini at this point over Lovejoy. The only consolation is knowing that after the season ends Lovejoy and Moore will no longer be apart of the blueline.

And how'd that turn out in game 3 for Philly?

How's sitting Holtby looking for Washington?

Im not sure Toronto's goalie blundering in its series would have mattered... they're getting all around outclassed.

Sometimes, these coaches arent too bright. Devils are never winning a Stanley Cup with Mike Kinkaid. This roster probably isnt with Schneider either.. but this would have been a good year i think to get him playoff experience.

Hank got swept by NJ in his first postseason experience... but he still learned and grew from it.

I think its the right move to go to Schneider. He's the better talent and has better probability of stealing you a few games, even if he's had a shitty year by his lofty standards.
It's Keith Kinkaid

.
exactly!
MetsAreBack : 4/16/2018 6:24 pm : link
He aint winning a Cup.

PS. I knew a mike kinkaid growing up!
Well, starting Schneider really blew up in their faces!

The barn was rocking tonight. Glad i was wrong about Schneider. He was superb tonight. Of course Hall led the way. At least we have a series now. Wednesday should be interesting.
Great effort last night....

I’d like to see the Devils continue to annoy TB.

Daneyko said it best.

“Blake Coleman is starting to frustrate Tampa Bay....and that’s a good thing”

Great night
