The outside receiver across from OBJ isn't a dire need.
It's arguable that the best offensive formation for the Giants would be OBJ outside,Shepard in the slot, Ellison in tight, and Engram at the boundary receiver position opposite OBJ.
Still, you have guys that can compete at that spot, with the incumbent Roger Lewis obviously being the lead dog at the moment. I also still believe Latimer has a lot of upside and will offer a good competition.
Then one of my sleeper picks is Tre'Quan Smith in the draft. Available between the 3-5 rounds.

I'm hoping the light has finally come on for Latimer. He doesn't need to be a stud with OBJ out there.
OBJ (broken leg) and SS, we have a huge collection of journeymen at WR. Would not be surprised to see a day three WR to at least add to the mix. The Giants used one of their 30 pre-draft visits on Owens from FIU.
He is on a mission to crush Dallas and I think he is well liked by his team. I think the perception here is different because we hate Dallas, but he seems like a team player.
But then again, I wanted Pryor over Marshall as well. Without Alshon, Eagles don't win the Super Bowl. Still not completely over their win. Fk'n Matt Ryan and Falcons.

Eli loves the tall guys down by the goalline.
According to Bryant, he seems to think there were players in the locker room who helped convince Jones to release him - so he may not be as well liked among his peers as you'd think.
I think this $5m is going right into Beckhams pocket anyway. They need all the money they can get to have him squared away financially.
He has always dropped a LOT of passes. I doubt he was looking to avoid getting hit. He's always had a reputation for being a physical player. Half the reason they signed him was his rock solid run blocking.
Big hole in the WR corps.

Who's next in line? Cody Latimer?
we had a hole at WR WITH Marshall on the team.....
I can see, in certain situations, where we could split EE wide, but not use him as a starter at WR......Ellison is nothing special as a TE.....I want EE taking advantage of those linebackers....
As for WR, we have to get lucky with a late round pick, or maybe someone gets cut that we can use....once again, no depth at WR.....an injury to OBJ, EE, or SS and this team is in trouble again...
But this is the team that Reese created......In 2016, no major injuries, and this team could function.....it was lucky that year.....we have too many holes as far as starters go, and nothing to back them up...DG inherited this, and will have to act accordingly....and it's not going to happen in one season....
maybe the Giants have a multable pick trade down already done
enabling them to include a high round receiver (Sutton?).This or maybe an agreement with Dez. I can't see them going to camp
with Roger Lewis as their 2nd receiver
Base offense will be: Beckham, Shepard, Engram and Ellison. Lewis and Latimer are primary backups. Would be nice to get a wide receiver for depth in the fourth or fifth round.
If Odell decides to hold out, then we have a major problem. This would be the only reason to consider Dez as insurance. But lets please hope that Odell and Giants agree to something to preclude this from happening...
New GM, new coach, new base defense, there is bound to be a certain amount of roster chaos. Let's see how it looks after the draft, but even if the draft is a home run I wouldn't expect the roster to look very good this season. Too many holes to fill, too many guys who have to be shipped out, apparently.
person who feels bad for Marshall? Took less money to come here, gets hurt, agrees to a paycut, gets cut.
I don't feel bad for someone with that kind of athletic talent who has had a ten year career in the NFL with over 12 thousand receiving yards, including multiple seasons with 100+ catches. If he still has anything in the tank then he'll get picked up by someone else.

I do, actually.
He clearly thought he was going to continue playing here this season and wanted to.
But I understand why they cut bait. What he put on tape last year was pretty bad.
I was a huge proponent of signing him. Sucks it didn't work out. But as they say... it is what it is.
He created zero good will or benefit of the doubt with his play last season. It's not like he was a bad guy or a "locker room cancer". That's life in the Not For Long League.
but as mentioned he didnt seem into it anymore. As for BPD, having studied it closely inNYS mental health program (as have ppl close to me with many of its characteristics), that is one fucked up comment above.
that is unfortunate, Ill add something I learned in BPD class: For yrs psychiatrists have purposely misdiagnosed people with BPD as being bi-polar. The reason? BPD was not a diagnosis approved by insurance comps for medication and Bi Polar is.

I'm hip to this. No thanks to Dez. If he wants to play the cowpies twice a year, let it be with the foreskins.
Barkley can absolutely line up as a receiver when we rotate Gallman in to get some carries.
This is another occurrence of a popular misconception . You see it mentioned a lot (foolishly) about Engram. Running backs and tight ends do not beat skilled corners in coverage . It doesnt happen . If you can get a safety on them -sure . But Barclay and Engram are not beating 1 & 2 corners . They are simply not proficient enough in route running .
he needed two more strong seasons to have a realistic chance at that. Looking at him last year - no way he has two of those years left, not even close to one
I advocated getting Marshall before last season. I thought as a large target WR he would help in the red zone, take some pressure off Odell, and had matured over the years as a leader. You could tell from the Dallas game that he and Eli just didn't click. And he never had a chance to really get anything going after the Chargers game, which for all intents and purposes completely sunk the Giants team and lost Odell, Marshall, and Harris for the season.
He kind of reminded me in his brief stint similar to LaVar Arrington's stay with the Giants. He was a big name, he struggled, and got hurt and was released. Arrington actually showed some signs of coming out of his funk until he got hurt. Marshall never got the chance.
Sometimes things just don't work out, and that was the case with Marshall.
The hole was going to be there with or without him playing. He simply didn't get it done last year and there's no reason to believe that this year would somehow be better. I like Marshall, but ask yourself, at this moment what teams will try to sign him on? The Giants need to look at other #2 WR options.

It is kind of weird there has been radio silence on dez, no visits no talks nothing
Dez would be Marshall 2.0 minus the nice guy.
LOL... you have to be willing to at least try catching something.

I'm surprised it took them this long to release him. Is there some financial significance (from a cap perspective) of him failing the physical?

Yup.
We want Beckham to mature and be here long-term.
Putting Dez Bryant on his side would be the worst thing we could do. I don't want this guy anywhere near Odell.

Our roster didn't get worse losing Marshall.

Brandon Marshall had agreed to take a pay cut for 2018, per source.
#Giants chose to release him today.
They were hoping he'd pass a physical first so they wouldn't need to pay out an injury settlement.
Dez and OBJ what a Disaster that Tandem would prove to be, chaos guaranteed.

Well yeah. Good rosters don't win 3 games. We knew it was mess.

You're gonna get hit in the NFL.
First image that comes to mind with Marshall as a Giant. I was there what a garbage drop.
Won't happen, but just a throwback at Marshall.
Unless both will play at vet minimum, plus a box of cookies.

Might as well just put yourself in a coma and forget about life or football for a while. Not worth even watching.
I hope he continues to turn his life around.
Yeah, they need a #2 wr but we have a TE who is probably going to catch 80 or more passes, so it is probably not as big a need as many think.

Really just a fucking terrible post.
Brandon has been open about it, trust i feel for him. Paid my dues on this issue like a mother fucker.
But if Jerry Reese thought it wouldn't effect Brandon's ability to be good teammate, then he was smoking more ass crack than we thought.
Your ex having BPD doesn't make you one, either.
And based on your comment above, you sorely lack understanding on the subject. It's an awful comparison and very much off-base.
Oh the irony

What the hell is wrong with you?
The guy was cut because he failed a physical and is likely done being a starting caliber WR. But now its a psyche debate? Good lord.
Sounds like he had zero perspective on just how lame he was with the Giants.

I suggested 6'5" Florida State receiver Auden Tate in the 3rd round ...
