He has value as a WR, but Darnold was on the board. The ONLY acceptable option was to draft him or trade down. The shelf life of a RB is just too short to draft Barkley. The Giants probably asked for far too much from Denver as usual.
The Jets are laughing their ass off!. They can now take Darnold.
I dont know.
I really like him and his ability, and I hope he is the difference maker we need
But for a team with so many needs, IMO a trade down and extra picks would have been wiser.
the fans will start to boo and this team will be in qb hell if they put their eggs in the Webb basket. Lets see 5 years from now when a second ODB contract and SB are up and we have no qb...I hope Mara cleans house at that time and I will be here to remind the RB fan club that you never take a rb this high. Dumb as hell
As others have said he's the best player in the draft at a position of need. It isn't 'stupid' but it's a really big gamble. Hope Eli has his shit together.
I am happy with this pick didn't like any of the QBs was hoping for trade down but barkley best player in this draft
I suspect Webb is a big part of this pick. I think they believe hes in the same ballpark, talent wise, as any of the QBs they could have drafted. Well see.
RE: People bitching about drafting the best football player in the draft
Despite position or whatever, you simply cant pass on talent and strive for average simply because the guy plays a position you arbitrarily undervalue.
Both Chubb and Nelson will be perennial All Pros and both fill positions of drastic need. Barkley will be a disappointment. He can't block and he can't break tackles.
Can suck it. Case fucking Keenum was within an eyelash of going to the Super Bowl this year.
Operation Suck4Saquan complete!!!!!
This +1000
He was within an eye lash of not winning one playoff game. He was not within an eyelash of going to the Super Bowl, they got fucking smoked in that game.
The value just isn't there if Denver was looking to come up
it's a RB. He's a great prospect but you roll the dice to see if Cleveland takes him at 4. You'd still have the choice of two of three best players in the draft. It's just silly, the Giants never ever approach the draft with any sense of tactics. Always up never down. Moronic.
is the fourth highest paid RB in the league, and plays a position with one of the shortest average careers.
I was OK drafting him, as long as Darnold wasn't on the board. I didn't really want Darnold, but he would have been better choice than Barkley. So would a trade down.
this is a terrible. I don't want 3.7 YPC, 50 catches and an occasional return TD from this guy. We passed on a huge haul for this pick not to mention the QB's.
Barkley is pretty consistently described as the best player in this
will make Eli's life a lot easier. Just puzzled that people do not see how this helps the entire offense. The lack of a running game is what made Eli struggle.

Because people think you have to get a QB if you pick high in the draft.
Seriously cant believe people havent noticed DG talking about the importance of the running game. Shurmur knows it too.
And the year after, and the year after that - until his rookie contract is up and he bounces around league with teams still trying to find his "ceiling".

Do you seriously believe he's going to have the same motor in 5 years?
No one's doubting his talent...it's the beating he's sure to take that will doom him.

I get that, but from any sense of maximising your return on the draft it's the wrong pick. Sorry but it is. He'd have been there at 5. The Browns needed a CB, they didn't need a RB, they didn't need a DE.
The career expectancy of a running back in todays NFL is what? Davis Webb better be the answer at an or else well be looking for a franchise qb for awhile

Great player but they need the QB. Hope that Webb is ready because Eli is no longer the answer on a team with this many holes. Hope his diehards are not the loudest people booing his first interception, sack or fumble because adding an RB to this leaky line and an aging and never-mobile QB is not on Eli. He is at an age where he belongs on a much better team if he is to succeed.

I'm very happy about this. He's a good guy and has great passion to be best at his position. He's going to make people forget about Elliott from Dallas.
I just pray that DG picks up some OL help from the remaining rounds.
OBJ will have some legitimate competition on who is the face of the Giants offence.
happy. Wanted a QB or trade back. But I was watching with a friend who's a Browns fan who was not happy with Mayfield, but went home when they picked Ward.

This might be true except its been proven since 2004 that Elis dump offs and screens kind of suck. Like really bad.

It's not supposed to be about filling holes and making the team better next year. It's about having your franchise QB in place and thinking long term.
Unfortunately, DG sees it your way...which is why he'll go down as a GM failure.
And by the way, both of the Giants RBs averaged over 4 yrs per carry last year. More than Zeke and Bell. The running game was not the problem.
You can argue that 2 is too high for an RB but Barkley is all business. They must think Wli still has something left but theyd better get an o-line worth a shit and please get rid of Flowers.
between meeting a current need and considering the future is very difficult to do. I can see the argument for drafting a QB but no one yet knows what the future will bring. Will Barkley have a short shelf life? Perhaps but it's not a certainty (nothing in the draft is) and none of the QBs may have a long shelf life either. At least we have a lot of evidence that Barkley will bring an immediate impact, regardless of what the next 3-5 years hold. I'm very content with that.

I think were going to be chasing a franchise QB as soon as 2019. And in 2019, the draft eligible QBs blow.

Accept that the giants dont have the same value board you do?
Dont get the thought process that leads one to say the giants were stupid for passing on a qb. What if they just didnt like the qb? Should they take one anyway or take the most talented offensive skill player to come along in years? Why cant you just accept it? Its one thing to disagree or like a player that the giants didnt like...
Its not about your board lol. The giants didnt pass on a qb because of some flawed logic they had months to decide. They passed because they dont love them enough. Fucking deal with it.

Thats a great description of him.
The last RB with this type of speed/agility/strength was Bo Jackson. Except that Barkley is a fantastic receiver.
And Barkley is the same weight and one inch shorter than Bo.

What Ive been saying for the last 5 months. Can I bet on Eli as comeback player of the year?
I said something similar a couple of weeks ago, and still feel the same. I think Eli is easily the frontrunner for comeback player of the year this coming season, with the addition of a back like Barkley. Mostly because of the way it will open up the downfield passing game for OBj, and the rest of the receiving corps. I am nowhere near as down on Eli as so many on BBI seem to be. Plus with the addition of Barkley's receiving skills, which seem to be better than anything we've possibly ever had at the RB position, I think Eli is now in better position to succeed this season, than in many seasons past. This obviously being due to the multifaceted attack the Giants can potentially use this season. Preseason will be interesting to watch this year, that's for sure.
Penn State has now been referred to as Kiddie Rape U and I was just called an anti Semite for not being a fan of Rosen. Lets grow up everybody, its a game.

He brought in Ernie for the fake GM search. Ernie told Mara what he wanted to hear - Eli can still play. Accorsi then told Mara that Gettleman will fall in line for Eli. Gentlemen is hired. Shurmur is glad for a second crack to be a head coach, so hes an easy convert.
Now everybody hands in the middle...Go Barkley on three! Go Barkley!
is in rare form. How does anyone know? DG has a strong conviction about Saquon. He helps now AND when the next guy takes over. Darnold has a lot of improving to go through. If the Jets thrown him out there too soon he will be Sanchez 2.0. Eli will be better but the beauty of this pick is he doesnt have to be more than a game manager.
"Hog mollies" is already as annoying a catchphrase
not in love, but happy with this pick as long as a trade back that did not bag Nelson and more picks. i wasn't in love with any of these QBs and have faith in Eli... with weaponS and a GM that believes in addressing the line. now go get a monster o lineman or 2

the same way Aldrick Rosas had a generational leg? He's the greatest running back since the last greatest running back two years ago and until the next greatest running back two years from now.

ITA. I wanted Darnold, but let's not act like we reached for a lemon. Barkley was practically unanimous in being one of the draft's two best players.
Clearly, many here put no stock in his assessment. I like the pick. I think Barkley is the closest thing to a sure thing in this draft. Cant say the same thing about these QBs. Obviously, the organization didnt think the QBs had franchise type futures. Well see, but i think we got a great player.

Akili Smith blew cock. Darnold and Rosen likely wont.
Shady McCoy
LDT
Jamal Charles
Frank gore
All lasted for years and there are 5-6-7 backs playing now that are well on their way to long careers.
Relax with the short shelf life stuff. If Barkley dominates for 4-5 years thats all you can ask anyway. Would anyone through Hakeem Nicks back? Yeah its a little sad but he still helped us win a title.
Worry about 2022 when it gets here. Lets field a team that has some chops and see what happens. Eli is older but does anyone doubt his ability in a big game? I dont And I wanted a qb.
Come away with the consensus best player in the entire draft and the best RB prospect in 10 years, when we havent had a decent RB in 5 years, and somehow people are losing their shit ready to jump off a bridge. Its just a game guys relax and look forward to a having 3 of the biggest mismatch weapons in the NFL led by our 2 time super bowl MVP quarterback. Plus Were getting some hog mollies in rounds 2-5.

Who was ok sacrificing the next decade for the next two years, are you all okay with anything less than a super bowl championship?
are you okay with passing on a SB championship in favor of mucking around with an okay QB for years because you si play had to have one, even if your valuation showed him not to be worth the pick?
we just got a really fucking good player who can possibly be as freakish as Beckham and instead of looking forward to how our offense willlook we are bitching about what 2020 will be like there will never ever be another QB prospect.
Why are we so quick to forget the value of having a quality QB? You're going to remember it really quickly when it's gone in two years.
Im not forgetting anything. I even said I wanted a QB but I guess you ignored that. Not sure why so many people cant grasp that the Giants didnt think he same as you about either these prospects, Elis ability, Webbs ability, or a mixture of all 3.
Exactly, would rather postpone finding Eli's replacement if it means having a set of weapons like this for his last few years. Put him to the test. Get some beasts upfront and if we suck we can get a QB later on. Darnold's turnover rate did scare me quite a bit. Saquon is not only safe, but if he scores like LDT did, you will forget about these QB prospects quickly.
is a phenomenal player. I just think that if the Browns offered #4, #33, and #35, that was the way to go. RBs tend to have short careers, and Barkley had a lot of carries at Penn State. But DG said he gave Barkley the same grade as Peyton Manning. This is a "win now" pick.
"More Gettleman on pos. value: I think a lot of thats nonsense. I think its someone who had this idea and got into the analytics of it and did all these running backs and went through their whatever. Hey, Jonathan Stewart is in his 10th year and hes hardly lost anything."

Really no sense debating it now. Giants have made their pick and time will tell whether they made the right choice or not.
All I know is that QBs went just before and just after the Giants' pick, so at least 2 of the top three (selecting) GMs thought the QBs were worth it.
but theres a draft in 2019 I believe, and I think another one in 2020. Theres also trades and FA. A jobber just won the SB. Brady, Brees, and Rodgers will be retired or on serious decline in 2020. Do I need to go on?
The league will be changing soon, if not already. Being explosive is a good thing, will only help a future rookie and will give us a pingers chance in every game, or a great chance to win every game if our D turns it around.
So many ways to win in this league and I love what I see from Brown/Bell.

or how an OBJ season-ending injury completely derailed an entire season.
Putting all your chips on the single most abused position is a huge gamble. It's completely reasonable to be irritated by this pick when the Giants could have easily extracted a couple extra 1st/2nd round picks (in addition to still acquiring an NFL-ready player!)

Passing on a SB?
Barkley guarantees nothing. Neither does drafting a QB. History does say it is easier to do so with an elite QB, though. Right now, the NYG dont have anything other than mediocrity and age at the position.
to move on, and stop complaining. It's absolutely not a disaster as some have said. That's just ridiculous. He's an instant upgrade to our desultory running game. Remember also that Barkley can line up as a slot receiver, which is important given that we have nothing behind OBJ (broken leg) and SS.

No guarantee that anyone this year is an elite QB. If the best QB is Alex Smith or Donovan McNabb, how many combined super bowl victories?

Im going to love watching Barkley run the wheel route out of the backfield
It is not a terrible pick. He will add excitement to the offense. As a receiver out of the backfield it will be exciting.
Sy also said Barkley was the best player in the draft
Quote:
The top player in this draft, something I have been saying since early October. Barkley is a generational talent that does almost everything at the top level. He is built to carry a load when he has to and has the versatility to impact the game in several ways. He can be a focal point of an offense much like what Elliot and Gurley have provided for DAL and LAR, respectively.
They are playing to win. But I dont think they will.
This roster isnt good enough to yield more wins than: Philly, Dallas, Green Bay, Minnesota, New Orleans, Atlanta, Carolina, Los Angels, San Francisco, Seattle, or Detroit. Your likely 6 NFC playoff participants will come from this pool.
It's only the 10th pick of the draft and you already know what the opening day roster will be? There is still a lot to happen with respect to: the draft, signings, camp, pre-season. The Giants just got significantly better.
You are responding to someone who would take the next Akili Smith just because he is a QB
Akili Smith blew cock. Darnold and Rosen likely wont.
way DG spoke, I'm confident that Webb was not a factor in the decision. They simply loved Barkley. He's certainly an exciting, dynamic, player, and had the highest grade on their board.
2. Giants Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State:Widely regarded as the top player in this draft, he aced the scouting combine (4.4 40, 29 reps on bench, 41-inch vert) and posted 3,801 yards from scrimmage and 82 catches in his last two years for the Nittany Lions. Barkley is a bigger, faster version of Adrian Peterson coming out of college and instantly legitimizes a poor Giants ground game.
He forms a dangerous trio with Eli Manning and Odell Beckham and should help instantly return the franchise to contending status for the short run and long term. An every-down player with great speed, instincts and intangibles, there's no reason to expect Barkely won't make the same kind of rookie splash that Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette have had in recent years.

Gettleman: We all know he can catch the heck out of the rock. He can pick up the blitz. He's powerful, runs through tackles. ... This kid makes our quarterback better, our line better, our receivers better, our defense better. He's going to be great for our culture.
I'm just happy he called it "the rock" and not "the Duke"
doesn't strike me as a guy who's afraid of "swinging and missing." As I said, I would have preferred the purported deal with Cleveland for #4, #33, and #35, but that wasn't going to happen since DG gave Barkley a 9.0 grade. In the Giants.com clip he says that he told everyone to ignore calls.
There may also be another reason for drafting Barkley, and that is to help Webb. If Webb succeeds Eli, he will likely do so when Barkley is in his third year. That will help Webb tremendously in his first year as the starter. Webb isn't the bridge. Barkley is. He's the bridge between Eli and Webb. He helps Eli at the end of his career, and Webb at the beginning of his.
I like this pick the more I think about it. DG had a conviction, and took his player. Barkley is electric, and can be a slot WR.
I've watched every clip of Dave Gettleman since he became GM.
He is refreshing as hell. Down to earth. And pretty damn open about what he thinks.
And in hindsight he's been very straight forward.
He says he's studied Manning and it is his assessment Manning is still a top QB worthy of being Gettleman's QB for another few years. I trust Gettleman a heck of a lot more than anyone on BBI.
He says Barkley is a player "touched by the hand of God" and the highest graded player he has ever seen. EVER.
I like Gettleman. I trust Gettleman.
According to Gettleman, the Giants have a mature, SB winning QB. And just drafted the most gifted player in Gettleman's career as a GM.
And he did it the way I hoped. Without hesitation. Because the player he just drafted was, in Gettleman's own words, a generational talent. A player with no weaknesses. A player who instantly transforms the team. On the field and in the lockerroom. So says straight talking Dave Gettleman.
Sure as hell is good enough for me. I'm excited as heck.
Well be talking about using resources to find someone to share the load with. I dont care if hes emmitt Smith. No one can take the full load at rb alone in the nfl today for long
Barkley is a phenomenal talent. I don't think I ever watched the draft and yelled "YES!!!" at a Giants pick before. I understand the desire for a QB but Barkley is terrific and many had him as the best player in this year's draft.
Re: leakage. I don't think there were leaks from the Giants. Most people thought the Browns would take a QB and most people though Barkley was the best players. It just made sense that the Giants would take him.

Love this take. Completely agree.
We will let the RB is super dope and will make Eli play more
have their night. I think SB will be a terrific player and even if he is a 8 time pro bowler I feel that he is a horrible pick at #2 and has zero to do with his talent. I am confident that the other running backs in the draft will have similar or better career than SB and will not be drafted in round 1 not to mention #2 overall.
We will see how Eli plays next year and the year after that, I feel he is done and is shell shocked. If Webb is not the future which I have seen nothing from him to say he will be and he was not great in college. This team will have to mortage the future of picks to get up to take a qb or sign a FA qb who will get tons of money and not be that good. You can find productive backs in free agency and the draft, you cannot find a qb who will lead a franchise for 15 years by snapping your fingers.
Eli thinks the media or fans were harsh before? Wait till he has bad games or god forbid the Jets start to win and Darnold is the goods, or Rosen with his chip on the shoulder turns into a stud.
Nothing SB does on the field will ever remove that stain of those qb's turn into what many think even if it was not the Giants

And if Webb is not the player to lead the team? What then? Trade a ton of high picks to draft a qb in 2 or 3 years?
for any of these QB prospects. They all have talent and they all have warts. That includes Webb. None of us have any idea how much Webb has progressed in the past year. His chances for success are just as great as any of this year's QB's, maybe even greater. Only the scouts, coaches and personnel evaluators for the NY Giants have any idea of Webb's abilities now and in the future.

Gettleman was playing it very safe with the Barkley pick.
With all the ludicrous hyperbole Gettleman is spewing
you all enjoy your excitement til he gets hurt playing that brutal position, then wonder where it all went wrong when we cant find a qb who doesnt blow... when we get tired of eli blowing. but it will sure be electric and exciting til then!
And it stings a bit more that he ended up a Jet. Im choosing however, to be excited that we drafted the most talented running back weve probably ever had and the top rated player in the draft.

I would have been happy with any of the top five guys. Really happy we didnt take Rosen. I dont care if he does well with the Cards. Which I feel thats a good spot for him, much better then with us. He had to many ?s for the number 2 overall pick.
1. Michael Irvin of all people made an excellent point using his experience as a player. The Giant's locker room and our coach/GM were cancerous last year. Selecting Barkley is the potential spark we needed in order to show every player in our locker room that the NYG are looking to improve and win right now. That spark is potentially immeasurable for the success of the team over the short term.
2. DG, Shurmur, and the coordinators were the primary people making this selection. Even if you believe a lot of the scouts contributed to the terrible drafts in recent years along with our former GM, the new regime and their collective experience made this decision. I trust them more than some random NYG fan on a forum. They did the work, they studied the tape, they had all of the knowledge one could possible have, and they selected Barkley.
I'm excited to see this team play, and that's not often the case after a 3-13 season.
I wanted QB. I hope they are right. I am disappointed that what could have been a smoke screen was actually a signal flare. We knew they loved the guy for months.
What does Sam Darnold need to become for us to regret it?
Johnny U Im assuming?
Put the bottle down and step away from the keyboard.
He has to become a slightly above average qb in 6 years. Do you think Barkley will be able to have top 3 rb production in 2023 with the beating he will take?
As much as I was not a big fan of any of the QBs this year if they ended up taking one of them I wouldnt have had a shit fit about it. I think a lot of you are going to feel pretty silly when the Giants actually contend for something this year.
the place went nuts when they called Barkley's name. I was one of the fans who felt that QB was the right direction to go. However, the reality is, that if the scouts don't feel that the QB is going to be a franchise QB, you can't pick them at #2. Barkley was the best player in the draft. He makes the Giants better. Odell just got better. The running game will be the best we have seen in about 8 years.
And let's also look at it this way, the Jets basically put Barkley in blue. When you look at it, I think the Browns plan all along was to go with Mayfield at #4 and Barkley at #1. Once the Jets traded up to #3, that forced the Browns to go with Mayfield at #1. With the Giants sitting at #2, and clearly not sold on Darnold/Allen/Rosen, and when a trade down didn't materialize, it makes sense that Gettleman pulled this trigger.
If Darnold turns out to be a bust and Barkley becomes a super star at RB, it would be funny to think the Jets were the ones behind the whole scenario.

I don't think anyone is going to be surprised if they win a bunch more games. Having Odell back is worth several wins. His play has and will continue to mask other holes on the team.

Great post as always. It was a fearless selection. BPA and Saquon is the best player in the draft. Thank you Cleveland, thank you NY Jets!
Man, youd think Barkley was an average Football Player by the comments on here, WTF?! I was in the draft a QB crowd, however, its not a bad pick. He was a highly rated player, the best in the entire draft, and we have people upset by the pick?! I just dont understand some folks on this board. Just because we selected a RB over a QB, doesnt mean Webb is the future. Theres other opportunities to pick up QBs through, trades, Free Agency and draft. Who knows what next year holds and where well end up. I, for one hope its not selecting at #2 again, but there will be QBs available. Its apparent that the Giants just didnt have the same conviction on a QB that they had on Barkley, strongly considered a generational talent. Hes going to be fun to watch and could make Eli look even better next year. Now is not the time to overreact, yet people will. Let it play out over next few years and well then revisit this draft and if in fact Barkley was the right choice.
When the new york football Giants add the best skill player in a draft and a character guy who is a leader, plays 3 downs, hands like a wr and a 4.4 40,blocks an returns kicks.... Add that to Evan Engram and Odell Beckham. And it's likely the 3 most raw real elite talent at the skill positions to God forbid help out champion qb have a cast that includes a rb that can turn balls in the flat into massive gains or run the seam deep while dbs have to be terrified of the wrs and te staying short.... And not to mention the huge huge deal that this team has not had a rb in 5 years that could get 1.yard on a 3rd and 1 or get in the endzone 4 downs in a row and now?
And let's just run with a theory that this player is elite... He is going to finally let the QB run play action, cut his throws in half and block on passing plays to help a so so Line...snf we drafted a hopeful replacement in round 3 that was mock drafted in round 2 and he gets to learn from a hall of Famer who hopefully has his career extended by cutting his absurd workload, and a rb who can cut the intense pressure to succeed for a Eli replacement if the rb is able to carry the load and help the you g qb.
When did first round qbs become automatic anyway? Not every draft.... Not any drafts look likee 2004. 3 qbs in the top 7 passing all ltime? Imagine being Miami in 2012 when you behave like a fan and feel like you need a qb at 8 so you draft mediocrity. Same draft has Russell Wilson, the recent super bowl champion on the eagles, plus kirk cousins
Screw the risk while we have a qb never injured.... Weapons ok the Field....
John Elway lost his 3 super bowls. And had average teams until. He was supposedly so old but the 2000 all purpose yard rb he had added to his team helped him win 2 in a row at age 36.
Go Barkley!
This was sooooooo predictable.
I don't know if I am as doom-and-gloom, but yes, it was predictable.
This also ends any future discussions of "smoke."
100%. Chris Mara runs this team. Seamless transition from him to himself.

Game manager..... Holy crap
Good post. Give Webb a chance soon and lets not waste mileage on OBj and Barkley
11 of those 21 games came in one season when the defense was the only reason we were any good. So yea OBJ does not equal wins, just td's
OBJ was the reason we won those games, and its not even debatable...
you are beyond delusional if you think the offense or OBJ was the reason we made the playoffs 2 years ago...
No I am not. We rode the defense right into the playoffs for sure. All I am saying is the only reason we scored any points (remember you need at least 1 point to win) was OBJ...
in the draft I am sure gonna miss not having RB that
can't turn the corner . Once he star busting off long runs
and watching play action with Odell blowing by people .
Finish shoring up the line grab a CB Edge Rusher and
were right back in the playoffs .
730 touches 4 fumbles 3 lost . 43 TD's in 38 games
2 KO returns for TD's Hes very good hands he can launch on the goal line , apparently he can block as well .
True HR hitter whats not to like .
Cleveland took Mayfield Darnold 22 fumbles Rosen dropped like a rock .
I am gonna go with DG and see how this pans out ,
a QB. However we didnt and I think you get behind it now. No point harping on it. No one thought Barkley was bad. Things could be a lot worse. Stay positive
I dont understand any of the complaining
Everyones top player in the draft
You win with great players
He will
Be a guaranteed great player if stays healthy
Our coach knows qbs
Relax and be happy
Jesus - I wonder if anyone complaining ever really played
The game
it sounds to claim a WR alone is worth several wins and then bitch about taking the best player in the draft who happens to play a skill position.
I'm not sure why this even needs clarification when "slant to Odell" was the only reliable play in the book the last two years. Odell Beckham isn't just "a WR". He's one of the best offensive playmakers in football. Don't make this more complicated than it has to be.
I can't believe you guys didn't take Darnold. I was at a Jets draft party and must've been like 100 people in the room grumbling about the Giants having Darnold fall in their lap. But you didn't take him. I can't believe you didn't take him. The room just erupted when Goodell read Barkley. It was pure bedlam. We landed Darnold.

I like Darnold but 21 fumbles in one season. The Jets needed a QB this year they had to take one. Giants have some time. Could be more patient.

Yes true. He needs to be taught better ball handling techniques. But a lot of it is just from trying too hard. He makes plays that are unreal. Two guys hanging off him and throwing the most catchable perfect 30 yard touch pass over the fingertips of converging defenders. Darnold does stuff no other QB in this draft can do. And maybe only Roethlisberger can do in the NFL
I thought Darnold or Rosen at our spot. However, i want to say that i think Barkley is the best back i have seen in a long time, has great character, and will be exhilarating to watch. My problem is that i don't have the confidence in Eli at his point...and i remember watching Barry Sanders be the most talented back in the league without much winning. I hope we don't end up going that route. That being said, i will really enjoy rooting for Barkley.
I'm sorry by Lamar Jackson's wonderlic is somewhere below warehouseman. He's going to be a gadget player for Baltimore and a dangerous one at that. He will never take Flacco's job.

Dan Marino scored a 13 on his wonderlic. It's about as relevant as leeches are to modern medicine.

You couldn't be more wrong. He's going to get it - eventually - and then he's going to kill it. You can't teach that athleticism and his willingness to want to be a pocket QB.
It took a while, but the best Heisman winner finally get drafted.

Please return to the Jets message board. Im pretty sure no one on here wants to hear you make fun of blue collar workers, warehousemen, and tell us how wonderful Darnold is. Enjoy Mark Sanchez 2.0.
Unless they have a soft spot for bad footwork, a slow windup, and lots of turnovers.
I mean, seriously, when did Sam Darnold become the next John Elway, Peyton Manning, or Andrew Luck?
It took me a while to come around on Barkley, but the guy really has some amazing skills. Comparing him to Reggie Bush is pretty absurd, given Barkley's 30+-pound edge on Bush and ability to break tackles on inside running, which Bush never demonstrated.
Barkley is an explosive weapon added to an offense that already has Beckham. I'm not a big 1st-round RB guy, but this is a hard pick to complain about.
And I'll take Sy'56's opinion over almost all others on here, given how much more he knows and studies this shit.
I'm sorry by Lamar Jackson's wonderlic is somewhere below warehouseman. He's going to be a gadget player for Baltimore and a dangerous one at that. He will never take Flacco's job.

Darnold will be a top 5 Qb for a long long time. Thank you. Remember this day
I'm not a fan of spending the 2nd overall pick on a RB but NYG got a talented player. Lots of talent at the skill positions but this isn't fantasy football, the OL is a mess.. IF DG can't fix the OL in a hurry, Barkley will fail to live up to fan expectations as a rusher. I think he'll do well as a receiving back.
I like the pick. The only QB I would have considered was Rosen if not
Wtf was Cleveland thinking with the 4th pick? I get that everyone has a different opinion on the type of QB you want, but how do you pass on Chubb and Nelson for a DB? And not even the best one?
Did you all miss the segment right before our pick where it shows the TWENTY-EIGHT QBs that the Browns has chewed through? A high-pick QB is not a guarantee.
Look up games where the Giants ran the ball more times than Eli threw the ball over the entire span of his career. When the Giants can run the ball, they win more often than when relying on Eli by himself.
I'm still not convinced this guy is the new EE, but I sure hope he is. Nothing anyone can do now but cheer or bitch about it.
doesn't really bother me much. I'll take a kick ass star for 5 years. Presumably a major contributor from day one. Other positions take a year or two or three to hit stride, so half the first contract is gone before the major contribution kicks in.
5 years down the road is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time in NFL years.
A trade down would have been nice, but reports are that the trade partners weren't coughing up the king's ransom to make it worthwhile.

1. With only ten fingers, how will he ever wear his 11th Super Bowl ring?
2. Does he bring peace to the Middle East before or after he implements universal basic income?
3. Given LTs character issues off the field, is it really fair to say LT belongs in the same category of football greatness as Barkley?
Anyway, Im just glad this guy is here because last season sucked.
Excited about Barkley, have wanted a homerun hitter for a long time
"...I got a feeling after the visit, when I got to formally meet all of the coaches and GM and everybody in the building. Leaving there, I just felt like thats home. Thats the place where I wanted to be. Obviously in the Draft, you dont decide where you want to go, but if I had to pick, that would be the place that I would pick."
I realize that people say BS like that all of the time but this is a 21 year old kid who has always come off as very humble and sincere. I don't doubt he's telling the truth.

1. On one of his toes.
2. Simultaneously.
3. You said 'football greatness', so yes.
That people toss out or simply don't understand about how a football game actually works. The Jaguars came within a whisker of a Super Bowl with a great defense and a punishing offense led by Leonard Fournette. The issue with Fournette is two fold, pass blocking and catching. So when he's off the field it's a really good indicator that the Jags are throwing the ball and when he's in it's the opposite. That makes a defense's job much easier.
Barkley can literally do everything at RB, run inside, run outside, catch the ball down field, be a threat on screens and pass block. There is ZERO hand tipping when he's in the game and when he's not. That advantage alone will pay dividends for this offense. He's a threat anywhere you put him. People will blast the pick, I won't even bother arguing or reading the whining, but this is a sensationally gifted football player who gives everything on the field and is clean off the field. You now have 3 4.40 types on offense, at TE, WR and RB. That's a complete nightmare for defenses.
I wanted a QB, but they went with an all world talent, how can you possibly knock it. They have a QB that they believe is still good, Eli had a GM that was horrendous, and he paid the price, now he will get the support from coaching and the front office he lacked. I am a Giant fan, I want success more then being right, fuck being right, lets go Giants. To all the babies, go root for the Jets, they got Darnold, go ahead, leave,.
want to jinx him but even those who don't like the pick have to admit the guy comes off as insanely mature and well spoken so IF he's the goods he'll make an excellent "face of the franchise" type. Not that it's so important vs. winning games but he seems extremely likable.

People need to stop talking about Fournette and Elliot when discussing Barkley. As you mention, they are different players with different skill sets. Barkley is not the inside runner that either of those guys are and neither of them compares to him in the passing game. He's a bigger stronger Alvin Kamara.
That said, I continue to believe that people way overstate the impact Fournette and Elliot had on their teams. I think both joined teams that were already ascending.
Fournette had 4 games all season when he averaged more than 4 yards per carry (3.9 on the season). The Jaguars went 3-0 without him in the lineup and actually averaged more yards on the ground in those games. I'm not arguing they were better without him, but I do think you could have plugged a lot of starter level RBs into that team and gotten similar results. Had they taken Deshaun Watson or maybe even Pat Mahomes (still unclear) instead of Fournette, I honestly think they may have beaten the Patriots.
Elliot is much the same for me. I think any number of talented RBs, running behind that line, would have given the cowboys what they needed in the running game (not arguing that they would be as good as Elliot, just that the gulf doesn't justify the difference in price). Imagine how much better Dallas is if they had invested that pick on defense in Jalen Ramsey. The cowboys ran the ball very well last year without Elliot. The drop off was in the passing game when Tyron Smith went down because they couldn't protect Dak (not to mention he had no real receiving threats).
I'm not saying Barkley won't make an impact. I just think when you actually sit down and examine Fournette and Elliot in detail, the impact isn't really what people make it out to be.
Will never be a top 5 quarterback he'll be lucky to be a top 15... I would have been okay with the quarterback but definitely not him horrible footwork and is a turnover machine.
Will never be a top 5 quarterback he'll be lucky to be a top 15... I would have been okay with the quarterback but definitely not him horrible footwork and is a turnover machine.
Good point - a turnover machine would never win anything with the Giants

The turnovers are a legit concern. Has to be addressed or he's Jameis Winston part deux (which is not a good thing, imo).
That said, the kid is 20 years old and played his first full football season at QB as a senior in high school (and spent his offseasons playing Basketball). To say there's a lot of room for growth/teaching is putting it mildly. He has warts to his game, but I don't think trying to put a ceiling on what he can become makes much sense.

Actually the medical use for leeches has been found to be somewhat effective and are being used in certain therapies.
Eli best traits have been above the shoulders and his durability. He should be able to spot the mismatch and get us in the right play. I am hopeful today. I want more OL help, would not be unhappy with 3 OL drafted today. We need depth and competition.

You couldn't be more wrong. He's going to get it - eventually - and then he's going to kill it. You can't teach that athleticism and his willingness to want to be a pocket QB.
It took a while, but the best Heisman winner finally get drafted.
Done. Pack it up. He's the choice for #2, if the Browns don't take him at #1.
And during the season:
And if this leads to us getting Saquon Barkley, then it could be a blessing in disguise. IDK, man. I'm just resigned. A QB isn't the worst idea, but I would not pass on Saquon Barkley. No way. Reese might, but it would be a huge mistake, IMO.

Darnold will be a top 5 Qb for a long long time. Thank you. Remember this day
I will remember it just like 81. We took the best player in the draft that day too. People wanted a RB. Giants took LT Jets got McNeil. Yesterday we took best player in the draft, Jets may not have even taken the best QB. Time will tell.
HAHA! See #21 go down like a heap of bricks when Barkley shoulders him. DBs don't stand a chance tackling this guy. He can outrun every one of them and he's 40 pounds heavier than them. That's why he has so many long runs because once he gets the 2nd level it's bye-bye Saquon.
I'll have a longer post coming, but I'll say this in brief:
- Stronger than Joe Thomas
- Quicker than DeSean Jackson
- Faster than Devin Hester
- Jumps higher than Julio Jones
And he's a top notch guy off the field. He's as close to the perfect prospect as I have ever seen. The best player in the Draft BY FAR and legit the best RB prospect since Adrian Peterson.
This will be his fifth procedure in his four years with the G-Men that has limited him to just 12 starts in the last four years after being the 2nd pick in the 2018 draft. Mean while over in Jet Land the defending SB Champions are negotiating a long term deal for SB QB Darnold that will make him the highest paid player in the NFL. Looking forward the Giants will again try and get it right, oh yes they have the 2nd pick in the up coming draft once more. Hopefully we'll have a conversation with President and GM Mara next week to get his view on the draft and what his plans are going forward.

By being drafted second overall, Barkleys $31m guaranteed money

Meanwhile, after leading the NFL again in fumbles and interceptions, the NY Jets cut ties with Sam Darnold, their former number one draft pick from USC. Its been reported that Darnold has an offer from a team in the Canadian Football League.
RE: By being drafted second overall, Barkleys $31m guaranteed money
Is the second most guaranteed money given to RB all-time, behind Adrian Peterson. ($36m)
Numbers don't win football games. Football players win football games. Bud Grant told me that the only number I should care about is being number one. And that's how you become the best. Don't gimme this number crock. Hog mollie! Donut!

Barring injury, Barkley will earn his pay over 5 years. He wasn't take #2 only because of his physical attributes and production. He was taken cause he is a character guy and good lockerroom teammate as I understand it. The kid's a father so he'll be primed to produce and such.
BARKLEY BABY!!
This guy better be the goods.
I guess they really do think Eli has a few years left.
2007 wild card worked out...
This guy better be the goods.
If mayfield's number 1...I like my chance with Barkley
The Jets are laughing their ass off!. They can now take Darnold.
Especially with the Jets getting their choice of QB. This churns my stomach a bit.
What a f-ckin disaster Jints Central is. They never disappoint.
This team isnt gonna be a playoff team next year.
Over analyzing....
Maybe they examined recent history and said, "You know, trading down from a top-5 pick hasn't really worked out very well has it?"
Whats not to like? I love it
The QB I liked best was Mayfield.
We got the highest rated player in the draft.
We need a HOF RB here out of this pick
I really like him and his ability, and I hope he is the difference maker we need
But for a team with so many needs, IMO a trade down and extra picks would have been wiser.
I'm a trade down dork, but you cannot be upset about adding an arguable best overall at the possible spot of most need!
I hate the Jets, but even I would laugh if/when this happens.
As others have said he's the best player in the draft at a position of need. It isn't 'stupid' but it's a really big gamble. Hope Eli has his shit together.
Could have gotten at least another 1st rounder.
Now the Jets get their pick of Darnold and Rosen. Bills will probably move up to 4.
Operation Suck4Saquan complete!!!!!
We hope
Finally the Giants can have a running game. I fully expect the second round pick will be an OL (Price/Hernandez)
What a f-ckin disaster Jints Central is. They never disappoint.
Let's wait until your Redskins pick.
We need a HOF RB here out of this pick
I would've drafted Darnold, but this is just ridiculous. Barkley is an infinitely better prospect than Wilson.
Quote:
do you not trade down
Maybe they examined recent history and said, "You know, trading down from a top-5 pick hasn't really worked out very well has it?"
Or maybe they didnt get offered anything they liked.
I always love people say, Shouldve trader down. like its as easy as Madden.
DG is not the man I thought he was.. just terrible.
I suspect Webb is a big part of this pick. I think they believe hes in the same ballpark, talent wise, as any of the QBs they could have drafted. Well see.
Operation Suck4Saquan complete!!!!!
This +1000
Short sighted. If this was 1980 i'd be thrilled, but the game has changed and you need a long term answer at QB.
They will have even more egg on their face if Darnold turns into a star.
The biggest problem I have is Barkley could be Barry Sanders and it will still be the wrong pick if Darnold turns into a star
Despite position or whatever, you simply cant pass on talent and strive for average simply because the guy plays a position you arbitrarily undervalue.
I cannot agree more.

Can suck it. Case fucking Keenum was within an eyelash of going to the Super Bowl this year.

He was within an eye lash of not winning one playoff game. He was not within an eyelash of going to the Super Bowl, they got fucking smoked in that game.
I was OK drafting him, as long as Darnold wasn't on the board. I didn't really want Darnold, but he would have been better choice than Barkley. So would a trade down.
Could have gotten at least another 1st rounder.
Yes. Because David Wilson and Barkley are so similar. Come on man.
haha .. the Jets future is now more exciting than the Giants.. you will rue this pick. We all will.
Such anger. All of these QBs have warts. Barkley's wart is "you can't take a RB that high!"
Then become a jets fan!!!
Operation Suck4Saquan complete!!!!!
This^^^
Play action isn't actually that affected by a run game according to all the stats.

And NICK FOLES won it.
Over Tom Brady.
Again... past results do not guarantee future outcomes. The league changes and evolves often.
Pat Shurmer knows his QB's. Either he sees something in Davis Webb, or perhaps he didn't even love any of these.
Let's see how things play out before we go fucking apeshit.
Quote:
Wil regret this for the next decade.
I cannot agree more.
Remember, all of these QBs have major red flags. They could all be busts. A lot of you are acting like they are all sure fire stars.
Even if he's Marshall Faulk, Darnold better not become Drew Brees, if he does it's an epic disaster no matter how good Barkley is.
Poor value. I don't know any other way to describe it, poor value.
Short sighted. If this was 1980 i'd be thrilled, but the game has changed and you need a long term answer at QB.

This x 1,000.
The Barkley fan club just doesn't get it. You're not going anywhere without a QB and the Giants just blew their best chance to get one.
Davis Webb better turn into a franchise QB or he won't be such a happy guy going forward
It's fucking moronic.
Davis Webb is garbage. Right now, the eagles have two qbs on their roster better than the Giants. Enjoy this team averaging 18 points a game again.
...for Saquon.
Make that lots of O-line help.
Go Jints Central! Go!

What the hell are you talking about?
Seriously, re-read my comment again and lets start over...
Improve at 37?
Sure its possible, but his QBR since 2012 has been mediocre to flat out bad.
But he did look good in that second Philly game...
...for Saquon.
Make that lots of O-line help.
Yup, I'd load up on OL the next two picks
Quench your thirst in the tears of others. I'm thirsty as hell and loving it.
Lol. Classic
Because people think you have to get a QB if you pick high in the draft.
Seriously cant believe people havent noticed DG talking about the importance of the running game. Shurmur knows it too.
though Not what I would have preferred with pick #2

I get that, but from any sense of maximising your return on the draft it's the wrong pick. Sorry but it is. He'd have been there at 5. The Browns needed a CB, they didn't need a RB, they didn't need a DE.

Half of this board wanted to take Josh Rosen and his concussion history.
Barkley is a physical specimen. Im sure hell be fine.
David Shaw said it best when he brought up Terrell Davis who proved even in a shorter window RBs can have a major impact.
I just pray that DG picks up some OL help from the remaining rounds.

This might be true except its been proven since 2004 that Elis dump offs and screens kind of suck. Like really bad.

No one is going to eat crow because in 2 years the Giants Wont have a qb and we'll be stuck in medicority.
I'm puzzled at the fans that can only see as far as next year.

Both Chubb and Nelson will be perennial All Pros and both fill positions of drastic need. Barkley will be a disappointment. He can't block and he can't break tackles.
Neither of these statements are close to being true.
Both statements are dead on.
Agreed. They got the best player in the draft at a position of need.
I think were going to be chasing a franchise QB as soon as 2019. And in 2019, the draft eligible QBs blow.
What a f-ckin disaster Jints Central is. They never disappoint.

Now I hope they draft some more OL tomorrow. :)

Worry about 2022 when it gets here. Lets field a team that has some chops and see what happens. Eli is older but does anyone doubt his ability in a big game? I dont And I wanted a qb.
Straight ahead speed maybe not, but hes more agile.
Wrong. It isnt just about his production. He will make others around him more productive too.

Gross, no wonder Akili Smith didn't make it.
I cant take Gettleman seriously if true. A freaking RB graded out equal to a top 5 all time qb? Was a curve instituted?

Not blowing cock is not enough to draft at 2
Say is slowly - best player in the draft. It relieves the anxiety. (I was tossing between Barkley and Rosen).
Do we know about Webb? Maybe Shurmur and Gettleman think he is good enough to win with.
In Shurmur they hired a guy who we are to believe can get the most out of Eli for 1-2 years and Webb beyond that.
Build the team up around that.
Besides, some of you who have decided that Eli plays like old people fucking then I guess well be right back up her next year and can go WB then.

Yes.
...love the player, love the talent, but I feel he was the wrong pick for this team at #2.
Needed to go QB in the worst way.
Dave Gettleman playing for the present with his first pick.

We better sign OBJ long term ASAP
Plus, we have a HC QB guru, and 2 G OCs, in effect.
If they can't make the O better with SB and OBJ, they will be here shorter than Mc.

Really no sense debating it now. Giants have made their pick and time will tell whether they made the right choice or not.
All I know is that QBs went just before and just after the Giants' pick, so at least 2 of the top three (selecting) GMs thought the QBs were worth it.
Me too. The dramatics are out of control.
$trahan.
Steve Spurrier can take 11 DC sanitation workers and score 30 points every Sunday.
The Eli trade is an epic f*c#ing disaster and will set this franchise back for a decade.
The Jints are never winning anything with Major Tom as the HC.
Excellent. A quick run down the thread shows all the "right" guys are pissed about drafting Barkley. Feeling better about the pick by the minute...
The league will be changing soon, if not already. Being explosive is a good thing, will only help a future rookie and will give us a pingers chance in every game, or a great chance to win every game if our D turns it around.
So many ways to win in this league and I love what I see from Brown/Bell.
Manning/Mara win out.
NO, WE'RE BACK!
NO, WE'LL SUCK FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS!
NO, WE'RE A PLAYOFF TEAM NOW!
Don't ever change, guys.
Putting all your chips on the single most abused position is a huge gamble. It's completely reasonable to be irritated by this pick when the Giants could have easily extracted a couple extra 1st/2nd round picks (in addition to still acquiring an NFL-ready player!)
So as we enter this extended drought, Im hopeful Marshall kills it at Tennessee and we finally use the top pick to draft him... ; )

Passing on a SB?
Barkley guarantees nothing. Neither does drafting a QB. History does say it is easier to do so with an elite QB, though. Right now, the NYG dont have anything other than mediocrity and age at the position.
Peyton was given a 9.0 grade (a perfect score) by Gettleman.
He gave the same score to Barkley as a running back. Basically, he gave him a perfect score.

No guarantee that anyone this year is an elite QB. If the best QB is Alex Smith or Donovan McNabb, how many combined super bowl victories?

Yes and the teams that drafted them were desperate for a QB. They didnt have an Eli

There may also be another reason for drafting Barkley, and that is to help Webb. If Webb succeeds Eli, he will likely do so when Barkley is in his third year. That will help Webb tremendously in his first year as the starter. Webb isn't the bridge. Barkley is. He's the bridge between Eli and Webb. He helps Eli at the end of his career, and Webb at the beginning of his.
I like this pick the more I think about it. DG had a conviction, and took his player. Barkley is electric, and can be a slot WR.
Re: leakage. I don't think there were leaks from the Giants. Most people thought the Browns would take a QB and most people though Barkley was the best players. It just made sense that the Giants would take him.
Be happy. Barkley is a great prospect.

Love this take. Completely agree.
Wayne Gallman can be that change of pace back.
Now thats a questionable use of resources. Thought for sure Lamar Jackson.
Two 1sts for Jackson is equally stupid.

Very well said.
What does Sam Darnold need to become for us to regret it?
Johnny U Im assuming?
Put the bottle down and step away from the keyboard.
What does Sam Darnold need to become for us to regret it?
Johnny U Im assuming?

He has to become a slightly above average qb in 6 years. Do you think Barkley will be able to have top 3 rb production in 2023 with the beating he will take?

By that logic,If Barkley is who just about every scout thinks he is, he will be worth several wins too I guess and we will be a pretty good team.

Now everybody hands in the middle...Go Barkley on three! Go Barkley!
This was sooooooo predictable.

Between your all-caps and typos, it's like you're screaming in my face and spitting. You're having a tantrum. Calm down.
And why take a QB if this regime didn't feel a QB was worth the pick?
My only concern with the pick is you could be looking at a 5-6 year player, with the pounding RBs take, versus a 10-15 year player at QB, or say, DE.
But again, you simply don't make that pick based on longevity. You try to get the best player when picking that high.
I think the Giants did that.
11 of those 21 games came in one season when the defense was the only reason we were any good. So yea OBJ does not equal wins, just td's

you are beyond delusional if you think the offense or OBJ was the reason we made the playoffs 2 years ago...
If skill players are worth wins by themselves, then that devalues QBs and if Barkley lives up to his grade then we got a lot more wins.

No I am not. We rode the defense right into the playoffs for sure. All I am saying is the only reason we scored any points (remember you need at least 1 point to win) was OBJ...
Im not saying I want him, but whos taking him before 34? You think the Pats are seriously considering him? Maybe the Steelers are thinking post Ben?
What are you even arguing?

I do love Barkley. I just know our QB is heading downhill quickly and we will not have any more winning seasons until we get somebody else in there...
They've been building a nice team the last 2 drafts and 3 offseasons.
He may be one with a lot of help.
can't turn the corner .
I am gonna go with DG and see how this pans out ,
Everyones top player in the draft
You win with great players
He will
Be a guaranteed great player if stays healthy
Our coach knows qbs
Relax and be happy
Jesus - I wonder if anyone complaining ever really played
The game
I'm not sure why this even needs clarification when "slant to Odell" was the only reliable play in the book the last two years. Odell Beckham isn't just "a WR". He's one of the best offensive playmakers in football. Don't make this more complicated than it has to be.
Makes OBJ, SS, and EE more effective.
Makes Eli more effective because teams might not be able to blitz as much. That's important because Eli is basically immobile.
Makes "play action" believable because we now have a legitimate run game.
Makes Webb better if he succeeds Eli.
Makes the defense better because as a "home run" hitter he can "flip" the field.
Can line up in the slot as a WR, which is important since we have nothing behind
OBJ and SS.
Because he has great hands, we might FINALLY be able to run a screen play.
Because that always works or something? Clevelands been blowing it up for 20!years.

So you are advocating for more OL? I agree, we can definitely ya more OL.
I like Darnold but 21 fumbles in one season. The Jets needed a QB this year they had to take one. Giants have some time. Could be more patient.

Allen is going to bomb.
I was hoping for a trade down, but I'm not going to be mopey about trying to win in the next 3-4 years.

You couldn't be more wrong. He's going to get it - eventually - and then he's going to kill it. You can't teach that athleticism and his willingness to want to be a pocket QB.
It took a while, but the best Heisman winner finally get drafted.
But as I posted a couple of months ago, it's going to pretty damn cool watching Barkley, Odell, and Engram on the field together.
Please return to the Jets message board. Im pretty sure no one on here wants to hear you make fun of blue collar workers, warehousemen, and tell us how wonderful Darnold is. Enjoy Mark Sanchez 2.0.
Same here.
10+years of a whole lotta fun football ahead.
I don't know. Ask Frank Gore.
By that logic,If Barkley is who just about every scout thinks he is, he will be worth several wins too I guess and we will be a pretty good team.
Yeah, and there have been a few articles that illystr as the how a highly picked RB adds more wins to the following season than any other position.

Darnold will be a top 5 Qb for a long long time. Thank you. Remember this day

Anyone else have a Samsung phone that inexplicably breaks one actual word up into three non-words?

The career expectancy of a running back in todays NFL is what?
I don't know. Ask Frank Gore.
Frank Gore hasn't averaged 4 yards per carry in 3 years
Wtf was Cleveland thinking with the 4th pick? I get that everyone has a different opinion on the type of QB you want, but how do you pass on Chubb and Nelson for a DB? And not even the best one?
I'm still not convinced this guy is the new EE, but I sure hope he is. Nothing anyone can do now but cheer or bitch about it.
Rosen was my favorite QB but his injuries pushed him back. The Giants must really like Webb to pass on Darnold, Rosen, etc.
But this is a truth: if Eli was in this draft he is the consensus #1 pick.
Barkley, Engram, OBJ, Sharpe give us some playmakers. If the OL improves a bit we'll move the ball.

5 years down the road is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time in NFL years.
A trade down would have been nice, but reports are that the trade partners weren't coughing up the king's ransom to make it worthwhile.

The comment was about career expectancy. Gore is still playing.

Browns should have drafted Rosen with 4th pick.
I guess we can use that a lot...
2. Does he bring peace to the Middle East before or after he implements universal basic income?
3. Given LTs character issues off the field, is it really fair to say LT belongs in the same category of football greatness as Barkley?
Anyway, Im just glad this guy is here because last season sucked.

Good let Allen bomb with those zubaz wearing table breaking coke fiends in buffalo. That entire city is basically what Canada crapped out.
Lost in the chatter last night, this is one of the funniest descriptions of Buffalo Ive heard in a while! Nice work. For a Jets fan
I realize that people say BS like that all of the time but this is a 21 year old kid who has always come off as very humble and sincere. I don't doubt he's telling the truth.

1. On one of his toes.
2. Simultaneously.
3. You said 'football greatness', so yes.

Absolutely thrilled with this pick
Barkley can literally do everything at RB, run inside, run outside, catch the ball down field, be a threat on screens and pass block. There is ZERO hand tipping when he's in the game and when he's not. That advantage alone will pay dividends for this offense. He's a threat anywhere you put him. People will blast the pick, I won't even bother arguing or reading the whining, but this is a sensationally gifted football player who gives everything on the field and is clean off the field. You now have 3 4.40 types on offense, at TE, WR and RB. That's a complete nightmare for defenses.
Bingo

Good point - a turnover machine would never win anything with the Giants
Quote:
Will never be a top 5 quarterback he'll be lucky to be a top 15... I would have been okay with the quarterback but definitely not him horrible footwork and is a turnover machine.

Joey, you magnificent bastard, I READ YOUR BOOK!
I know I shouldn't say this as a Michigan fan but that direct snap TD was something else too.
Would love to see direct snaps to Barkley in the Giants playbook this year, at least to keep defenses on their toes.

Actually the medical use for leeches has been found to be somewhat effective and are being used in certain therapies.

Just like Michael Vick did.
I wrote this back at the Combine:
Saquon just ran a 4.41 40.
Done.

I will remember it just like 81. We took the best player in the draft that day too. People wanted a RB. Giants took LT Jets got McNeil. Yesterday we took best player in the draft, Jets may not have even taken the best QB. Time will tell.
I guess we can use that a lot...
He actually can. I remember he threw at least one TD pass in college. LOL
HAHA! See #21 go down like a heap of bricks when Barkley shoulders him. DBs don't stand a chance tackling this guy. He can outrun every one of them and he's 40 pounds heavier than them. That's why he has so many long runs because once he gets the 2nd level it's bye-bye Saquon.
- Quicker than DeSean Jackson
- Faster than Devin Hester
- Jumps higher than Julio Jones
And he's a top notch guy off the field. He's as close to the perfect prospect as I have ever seen. The best player in the Draft BY FAR and legit the best RB prospect since Adrian Peterson.
What youve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I thought it was actually pretty funny.
Meanwhile, after leading the NFL again in fumbles and interceptions, the NY Jets cut ties with Sam Darnold, their former number one draft pick from USC. Its been reported that Darnold has an offer from a team in the Canadian Football League.
Man, think of all the pretzels and hot dogs he could buy with that.
