it's not so much the picture for the magazine/calendar it's that the redskins invited people/sponsors to watch the shoot. they appeared to be fine with the pictures but did not want to bear all in front of people not involved with the shoot. a very reasonable request in my eyes.
shame on the redskins for doing that. it definitely crossed a line.
But isn't this exactly what a cheerleader's job is:
"What bothered them was their team director’s demand that they go as sex symbols to please male sponsors, which they did not believe should be a part of their job."
but what kind of creepy, lonely, dude wants to force a woman to accompany him anywhere against their will or ogle them openly against their will.
those are the people I'd target for checking their browser search histories and assume they are into worse stuff.
I don't really feel bad for the cheerleaders because I'm a heartless bastard, but I have a lot of contempt for those creepy men. As bad as the Redskins are, and no doubt they're in the wrong here, those men are their real "criminals".

Pretty much, but requiring them to go topless with dudes staring at them is something different.

Eh. I think their job is to cheer at the games and do promotional gigs. The topless things seemed secondary to the mandate (not request) that the accompany male sponsors out to clubs/restaurants. The whole "pimping them out" piece of it (even if they all say sex was not in the plan).
but at the pro level, why? Giving hopelessly drunk patrons something to leer at doesn't add much to the experience, does it? I remember trying to explain to my then-six or seven year old daughter why the Devils ice dancers existed and why a bunch of drunk, creepy, middle-aged men were drooling over them.
not understanding the need for pro cheerleaders at this point. The game is very popular. They might have needed hokey stuff like that when the pro game was just getting started but it's no longer necessary. The Giants refusing to have them has always been something I respected. We are here to watch football. If I want to ogle half-naked women, I'll go somewhere else.
Allegedly, 9 of the 36 girls were then handpicked by male sponsors to be escorts for them at a nightclub. The girls maintain that sex was not involved, but still...

the appeal made a little more sense intuitively. It's a brave new world, the NFL wants to be family friendly and appeal to women customers, if that sort of entertainment interests you there are umpteen alternatives, live or on your smartphone.
#metoo. Has everyone starting to speak. Hollywood and the rich and famous are going to be catching shit until the cows come home. And it will go back quite a ways.
have to think the delayed timing of this was because 5 years ago this gets covered up and barely makes it as a headline. Now with the METOO movement women have something to attach their story too.
I'm interested to see where this goes with the Redskins, whats also interesting is that the club was virtually empty and had redskin officials there.
Taking the passports (when in another country) might be team policy but its also a way to subdue the girls from causing issues and making them feel obligated to do whatever.

Bear? Were they furry?
RE: Well at least this will please the indigenous folks Â

If there was it was probably of the "grab them by the ..." variety.
Should be a full investigation and if guilty, Snyder should be fined and forced to forfeit draft picks.
The passports might become a key element of the case. Â
The team better be able to demonstrate that seizure of passports was a clear, reasonable security policy, and that it was equitably applied. For most people, that kind of action is usually associated with human traffickers, not legitimate businesses.
Other aspects of the story could become she-said/she-said between the cheerleaders and their director (the caring, protective “mama bear”). The team is still in trouble though: workplace harassment is mostly judged by the perception of the victim. And the League has to take the accusations seriously, if only as a PR headache.
If the Cheerleaders win a lawsuit then the Redskins Â
bad this is and how creepy men can be. Link - ( New Window )
Big difference between surreptitiously enjoying the sight of attractive women on the street and forcing your employees to take naked pictures in front of creepy, old men.
Maybe that's just me.

This is true.
The passport thing is interesting - I can see collecting them so they don't get misplaced /lost. But coupled with the topless shoot (if not listed pre-trip on the agenda) is disturbing. Could easily be viewed as leverage to compel them to do something against their will.

I agree, one is definitely worse than the other, but they both grow on the same tree.

I think I'm going to apply for a job at the Redskins Front Office Â
former boss was famous for being the oldest rookie Redskins Cheerleader. This was many years ago and I think she was in her early 40s at the time. The crazy thing is this woman has a JD and was a VP at the company but apparently it was always her dream to be an NFL cheerleader. After a few years, she became a "team hostess" and had to entertain rich dudes in the luxury suites.

Haven’t seen him in awhile. Is he still short?

Fine with me. There's no point.
go to Shakers and do both

more like Washington Bareskins

awful
Fuck that, I want the picture...
In this age of #MeToo, not smart.
Hear, hear! Buy that man a stogie!

Dances with Foam Finger would like to see pictures first. Then make judgement.
I wouldn’t want to defend the ‘Skins in a court room. That being said, reading this story made me very uncomfortable.
It’s just wrong.
I mean this isn’t 1988, people can get their slutty attire-wearing eye candy on instagram.
Having said all that, I think some of you are being a bit hard on middle aged men who oggle at half naked women.

And the judge should decree Snyder to be their butler...
