The Giants are not picking up OL Ereck Flowers' fifth-year option for 2019, source says. No surprise.

Hopefully this will inspire him to show up and behave so that he receives a big pay day from another team in a year.
Bummer

I wonder what their line of thinking for this could possibly be???
Good.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/2/2018 4:31 pm : link
But he has a new agent. Hehe.
does that have to be announced this year?
Joey from GlenCove : 5/2/2018 4:35 pm : link
seems odd, not sure why youd do that
That makes the team better

Shocked, shocked gif
I think the Jags make sense for Flowers....
Andy in Boston : 5/2/2018 4:43 pm : link
don't get the sense he likes New York obviously.
He'd be close to his dad in Florida...and TC knows him well. Could be a good fit for both parties.
The Jags get use a Tackle.....maybe a straight up trade for a player (Jeremy Parnell?) or a 5th round draft pick?

Thoughts?
Like Joey asked
mitch300 : 5/2/2018 4:46 pm : link
why does this need to be announced this year. Also, can they change their mind.
Have to May 3rd I believe
schabadoo : 5/2/2018 4:48 pm : link
And it's very public.

Why do the Jaguars do this? Why do they give us anything for a player who hasn't played well and is 16 games from free agency?

Oh yes, you can tell from the parade of ex-Giants marching down to Jacksonville just how highly regarded our talent acquisition was.

They don't want our garbage.

When Olivier Vernon and Flowers are not on this team in 2019 it isn't going to reflect too well on Reese's legacy.
It’s not a good look

When all of your teammates show up at voluntary practice with the new coach except you.
He got Rosenhaus,
old man : 5/2/2018 5:16 pm : link
We got him a Good Luck At (your next employer) card.

It lets Rosenhaus shop him around while kicking his backside to do his best so DR can find him another team.

Hope it works out for everybody.

. Nah, could be worse. At least he has 2 rings. Poor McAdos legacy is benching Eli for Geno Smith and the kid with the moustache.
Of course not

I said in other posts,

that's why he didn't show up voluntarily......he had guaranteed money whether they cut him outright or traded him....

Pathetic to see how regularly we haven't signed our top two draft choices to a second contract. Well done, Jerry!
Did anyone
greek13 : 5/2/2018 6:43 pm : link
Think they would? If he doesn’t produce his next contract will be minimum
Or in the WWE

I think DR is going to ask for a trade.
Dave on the UWS : 5/2/2018 8:31 pm : link
As poor as his trade value is now, he has only played LT in the pros. He can still market himself that way, until training camp. In his mind, he can get a better opportunity (LT somewhere) if his agent can get him moved now. Clearly he doesn't want to be here. Hasn't taken the change in position well at all.
Lining up at LT
Jimmy Googs : 5/2/2018 8:32 pm : link
and actually playing LT are two different things...

Sure, why not. He’s already got a blown ACL and one year probation for a battery and theft arrest. What could go wrong.
Just because they didn't pick
Gman11 : 5/3/2018 8:35 am : link
up the option doesn't mean they want to get rid of the guy. The biggest factor in not picking up the fifth year is that he would have to be paid over $12million. Twelve freakin' million bucks! I certainly doubt that he goes from what he is now to a player that is worth 12 mill.

But, it doesn't mean that the Giants will let him go either. They could resign him for what he is making now if he has a decent year. He might actually do well at RT (I'm not holding my breath) and deserve a raise even though he won't be worth 12 mill. You never know.

I know it looks bad now, but Drew might get through to this kid and he goes into camp with a new attitude. Or not. We will see, but don't count him out just yet.
Would be nice if the light goes on
gmenrule : 5/3/2018 10:50 am : link
and he becomes a really good RT. One less OL we have to draft
next year - a LT (for the future) and a Center (for upgrade).

He'd have to start shitting rainbows for the Giants to re-sign him. I suspect the disdain is mutual on both sides.
Flowers is only hurting himself now
PatersonPlank : 5/3/2018 11:28 am : link
Maybe a team will take a chance on a top draft pick who didn't pan out if they have a good attitude and keep wanting to work at it. However coupling a seemingly poor attitude with under performance may scare most away. The best thing he could've done was show up and work hard.
