Every offseason, he thinks they are a contender. That is what we have going on here. This team is not a playoff team, let alone a contender. Not with the Eagles, Rams, Vikings, and Saints at the top of the conference. That leaves room for two more playoff teams, and I don't believe we'll be one of them unless ALOT of things go right for us. My bet is by this time next year we will be searching for our next QB and lamenting the fact that we don't have him on our roster yet. Just my two cents, though.
But hey, what do you think is more likely: Eli is going to rebound and we are going to become a contender OR we are going to need a new QB sooner than later. Because I don't think people seem to realize that is the question they should have been asking themselves last week.
is exactly why we could afford to purchase a shiny, new sports car (Barkley)...we don't have a garage to put it in right now.
Should have traded down..we have bodies...none of which are able...
Collecting bodies also seems to be DG plan for QB of the future...
The draft is about acquiring talent...the best available talent. That's exactly what we did. And with our first two picks, it's pretty clear that DG plans to revive a running game that's been woefully anemic for way, way, WAY too long. In addition, it seems to me that DG took steps to beef up our defensive front seven, building from the inside out, as opposed to JR building from the outside in.
There is no magic trade-down-tree, and while DG said that he received at least one reasonable offer, it still didn't come close to matching the value he had by staying put...and acquiring the best available talent.

Wouldn't surprise me if one of Eagles, Rams, Vikings, and Saints fall off the playoff radar, and replaced by a new team.
Not saying it's us, but it's the NFL where you play 16 games and roster turnover is pretty large.......expect the unexpected.

The same people...still bitching and moaning.
Yes, I am. And I am entitled, as I vehemently disagree with the direction our front office decided to take in the draft.
I just hope the people who supported the Barkley pick - and the people who changed their opinion after the selection - remember these discussions after the season. What amazes me most is how the people who support the Barkley pick think it's absolutely preposterous to believe that either Eli is done or, even if he isn't, that this team still isn't good enough to compete, making the Barkley pick something we could not afford.
believed Barkley was the best player in the draft, and one of the best running backs ever rated, then that alone is a compelling argument on why he was drafted.
It doesn't have to be tied to Eli or next year's success, it can simply be on the premise he'll become one of the best RB's ever.
Are people intentionally missing this point or just ignoring it because it doesn't fit a certain agenda?
becomes an All-Pro for the next decade and leads the Giants into the next era of Super Bowl winning teams. I will root for him, I will admit that I am wrong, shoot..I'll go buy his jersey. I just don't think it was the right move.
And as for the "there's no magic trade down tree" - I agree.
Maybe there were no legit offers (minus the donuts and hot dogs - which sound delicious) but I've got a problem with a GM that turns off his phone when his team comes on the clock - we don't know if there was a magic tree because the phone was off. Imagine if EA did that with Eli.

Yeah, because you're only allowed to make trades on the day of the draft, when you're on the clock. Just stop with this nonsense.
I would agree that trades can happen at any point before and/or after a draft...although I think it's safe to say that most trades happen on draft day while a team is on the clock. By a pretty significant margin.

FMIC this could very well be true but if what JonC and others have speculated is true, then at the very least Darnold (of the 4 top QBs) was quite high on their board.
If they actually thought Eli was cooked or in sharp decline, do they pass up a potential franchise QB?
Somehow I highly doubt it....
What makes more sense at least as far as I can see it is: Yes, Barkley absolutely had a rare grade on our board. BUT we also strongly felt Eli can give us 2 or 3 more championship level years (as Accorsi put it). Couple that with a hard working Webb who they are at least encouraged and cautiously optimistic about. Then drafting one of their top 2nd tier Qbs on their board (to further hedge their bets)...in that context the plan makes alot more sense.
It does show you how bad our roster is that we picked up three people today that were cut by other teams this week. It's May, not early September.
Depth and we are high on the waiver wire....Roster is pretty good. Offense could easily be championship level if OL gels, Defense a little more iffy but has some players on it and could be pretty strong or even better depending on some wild cards like Eli Apple.

How about you call Gettleman and explain that you vehemently disagree with the direction of the team and work it out with him so the rest of us can move on and stop getting this site clogged with the same whining p, bitching, moaning and complaining from the same posters on every thread? I’m sure you can talk some sense into him and he will call Goodell to have the draft redone for you since that must be your objective here, right? I mean, no amaount of hissy fits on BBI is going to change anything so you may as well go straight to the source and leave us the F alone. FFS man, when do we move on?

I don’t see how people can mock our lineup now....we have made a dramatic improvement since DG has taken the reigns. I believe we are now good enough to compete even against the world champs and especially against the Cowgirls.
just about how the Giants are going to go to improve, win, make the playoffs and win super bowls.
That would make some BBi posters thrilled.

This is exactly the kind of post as to why nobody on this site takes you seriously. Absolutely brutal.
You whiners all spew the same nonsense post after post after post and create narratives for the other side that dont exist. Always assigning cute nicknames like “blind followers” to the people that are ready to move on and see how things play out before slitting our wrists. You clowns CONSTANTLY throwing hissy fits on every thread doesn’t accomanything and neither do the cute nicknames you keep throwing around.
One thing has been incredibly consistent in all of these threads. All of the super angry, foaming at the mouth posters who can barely breathe because they are so upset are some of the very worst posters on this site that contribute absnothing otherwise. Just look at the posters posting this crap. Their track records aren’t exactly exemplary around here. Congratulations on being a proud part of that club...

And what club do I belong to now? And who’s slitting their wrist or foaming at the mouth? I just disagree with some of the moves that the Giants are making and believe they should have gone in a different direction and enjoy conversing back and forth about it - work was slow this week.
Sorry if I upset anyone.
I just hope the people who supported the Barkley pick - and the people who changed their opinion after the selection - remember these discussions after the season.
After THE season? Do you honestly believe that if we traded down or drafted a QB, we'd finish 2018-2019 with a far deeper playoff run than we will having drafted Barkley?
and other info that's been reported, it would suggest my speculation about how highly Darnold was regarded was probably not correct.
It appears it was Barkley #1 target, Chubb if Barkley was gone, and Nelson if they decided a trade down was too good to turn down. It doesn't appear a QB factored in otherwise, based on recent reports.
And if he's not, there will be plenty of questions to answer, as there would be for any team in the same situation.
Considering that we second and third guess drafts all the time when the results are poor, it's odd that there's a number of users here that are very eager to forget the draft and just chalk it up to a clear win sight unseen.
RE: If Barkley is the better player after a few years, sure, end of story Â
