Earlier with Boomer & Gio -did anyone listen? I caught just some of it-
Collins says arm is coming along - they had to add another screw - hopes to be ready in 4-6 weeks -also gave a glowing opinion of D Webb - said going against him in practice the kid put the ball where he, Jackrabbit, and DRC couldn't touch it - said no reason why the kid can't be the future
There was a lot of info - BJ spoke of Coughlin - also of the past fired coach -hopefully someone can fill in more

Landon Collins & Brandon Jacobs Have A Lot To Say
33:01
Boomer & Gio welcomed Giants safety, Landon Collins and former Giants running back, Brandon Phillips, into the Investors Bank Studio Friday morning for some fun. Collins and Phillips stopped by to promote their celebrity softball game (info @ LandonCollinsGame.com), which pits current Giants against former members of Big Blue, and talk some New York Giants Football. We heard the guys thoughts on new head coach Pat Shurmur, drafting Saquon Barkley, the human being that is Tom Coughlin, what went wrong in the locker room last year, Collins believes Davis Webb is the future, Jacobs doesnt think much of Ben McAdoo, OBJs situation (getting those cheeks) and much more.

Is he delusional or just a big baby? WTF gives him the idea that he's done such a good job at LT the last 3 years that he's a lock for that position? He would be lucky to get a participation trophy let alone not outright cut. Seriously, this guy has the attitude of someone who's been killing it at LT. He's sucked and he should come in here willing to do anything to prove he belongs. Honestly, this might be why he's soo bad because he does not live in any kind of reality regarding his situation as an NFL player

Awww...
Has Collins looked in here?
Is it really "airing dirty laundry" to state the obvious? Him not showing up to voluntaries after being replaced and essentially demoted has a clear meaning.

Our previous regime left us a lusional basket case, living in a fantasy world trying to force him to be a LT because he was the 9th pick overall.
It was an obvious consensus to even us low brain wattage thinkers on BBI that Flowers screams RT.
So kid, you can play the same as you always have, and get paid $3-4mm as a FA LT next year. If he happens to shock everyone and play at a Pro Bowl Level, he will sign for low guaranteed high AA to a team that is hopeful he figured it out but unsure. $10-$12mm? max?
That's top RT money. Something that if he moved to RT and dominated I can see a few teams saying "ahhhh, he played where he should have all along" and believe it a bit more.
A low level LT and RT are going to both earn the same. As will backup RT and LT. Bottom line for Flowers, he has the best opportunity to excel at RT, not LT. He also has the best opportunity as FA for a team to believe it's real and pay him appropriately...

This can't be true can it?

Eli Apple
And was in response to "What went wrong with the DBs" ... all the turmoil with the DBs last year...
And in his response he mentioned Eli having some issues at home (i.e. Eli Apple and his mom)
I'll repeat, whatever faults Mike has, he NEVER disparages other hosts on the station on his show, and won't allow callers to do it either.
Quote:
I thought I heard, in the response to what went wrong hesaid something about 'Eli having problems at home.'
Eli Apple
Listened again. "Eli just had...at-home problems."
Yep, Apple.

There was an article written during the season about the personal problems in the Apple family. I believe a step brother or close cousin gave the star ledger quotes. Apple's mom broke up with her 2nd husband, who was very close to Eli and it really hurt the family relationship
Apply the same scenario to yourself...
I'm sure anyone and everyone on this board would be pissed and feel cheated if the company you worked for replaced you with someone new and you had to find out from that person.
NO you wouldn't stop going to work, but you would prob not attend any of the "VOLUNTARY" work events such as team builders and fundraisers. I know I wouldn't, and I def would start speaking to other companies or get council
This is similar to what is happening with Flowers.
So If this is true, it makes sense for Flowers to make a business decision.
Flowers didn't have that opportunity because Beatty got hurt, but what we he expect if he had actually beaten Beatty out on the field? That Beatty would have an understandable temper tantrum? No. He would have said that it's part of the business. What would have happened if, instead of signing Solder, they had drafted a top LT with the idea of that person starting? Should Flowers have also been expected to pout?
Should we be understanding if Gallman ran away from home? Or if Kerry Wynn or Davis Webb had the sniffles?
Agree. Wtf is wrong with Collins that he keeps running his pie hole?
I'll repeat, whatever faults Mike has, he NEVER disparages other hosts on the station on his show, and won't allow callers to do it either.
They made me miss Fat Mike. At least he sticks to sports, given his superficial football analysis, now too hot stove Yankee trade rumors.
These idiots on WFAN and ESPN try to be up yuck it up personalities, unbearable. News flash, you should have an actual personality.

profession same or different, you're gonna be fucking pissed regardless. He's not pouting, fans are saying stupid shit to validate their claim.
He's looking out for his best interest. Which anyone would do yet he gets chastised for it.
I really question some of the people on this board sometimes...
is not pouting?
Tell me how that helps him and how that is looking out for his best interest.
Collins - Shurmur a players coach, and first coach to eatlunch with him and the players, but also said he could be stern.
Collins - Giants culture is heading in the right direction, but too early to tell.
Jacobs- loves Coughlin. Said Coughlin didnt have any favorites except for possibly Bradshaw. Jacobs said Coughlin would be really hard on critiquing Snee, but otherwise they didnt communicate much.
Collins- likes Saquons attitude seems very humble, down to earth, and ready to work.
Jacobs - loves Gettleman. He is glad the Carolina players criticized Gettleman publicly to get him out of Carolina and back with the Giants where he belongs. Says Gettleman is down to earth.
Collins- says a lot of miscommunication between upstairs (assume he means the coaches) and the secondary last year. Lots of injuries to the secondary. DRC was playing through a back injury and a knee injury. Eli Apple stuff is behind them.
Jacobs- give Webb a shot, didnt need a take a quarterback high in the draft.
Collins - Webb is the future. Very complimentary. Webb deserves the chance.
Collins Eli is our guy.
Jacobs- I knew McAdoo had no clue what was going on in reference to last year. Says McAdoo asked Jacobs if he had any advice during last season- Jacobs replied I dont know, I coach kids (children)...
Jacobs- We kind of always stuck together and our coach never threw us under the bus.
Jacobs- Coughlin was totally in control.
Collins- McAdoo didnt loose control of the locker room, but lost the respect from the players. (trying not to throw McAdoo under the bus)
Jacobs Doesnt think Giants give Beckham contract before the season starts. Doesnt work that way, but will have to give him a contract after the season. Understands why Beckham wants a new contract.
Jacobs- Predicts Giants go 12 and 4. Beckham has a big year.
Collins- Supportive of Odell. Says he deserves new contract. Guys who criticism him dont really know him.
Collins- Betcher is awesome. Plenty of guys about to be making plays. Not a lot of gray areas in the defense.
Jacobs Gives a positive spin on Flowers not being at OTAs. Says a lot of guys who stay away from OTA feel like they are working with their own trainers focused on just them. Flower should be there though to learn the new scheme.
Jacobs- in reference to Flowers and criticism you dont want criticism go to Cleveland- this is New York, that you will get (criticism)
Collins- Texted Flowers to come to OTAs when he didnt show up. Flowers did not respond back. He is unhappy (heard from his cousin) that they picked up Nate Solider.
Jacobs in reference to Flowers Every year they are going to try to find someone to replace you. When Tiki left they brought in a lot of guys (to compete with him) only one that worked was Ahmad. You have to up your game. Older you get, you have to keep working.
Jacobs- not a huge fan of Matt Ryans new contract. Its a lot of money (need money to spend on other positions). A lot of Atlanta fans not happy about it.
Jacobs- Passionate about coaching little kids to play football. Most important is to teach safety.
Collins doesnt understand new rules on tackling. Doesnt want to go low on receivers and risk injuring their knees or ankles.
Jacobs NFL doesnt protect running backs. Only guy not being protected.
There's no law against having your feelings hurt, but why would he have a right to? He wasn't performing at a level where he could say with a straight face that he deserved to hold his job.

In his profession, competition is inherent in the job and the employer is constantly bringing in someone to improve the spot. How is not showing up to work out with your teammates and meet your new Head Coach and Position Coach in his best interest? Don't you think NFL GMs and Coaches talk to each other? If he thinks blowing off the OTA is going to endear him to potential suitors once he hits the open market, he should think again.
He's sucked at his job for three years. I gave him a pass for year one because clearly he was thrust into a role for which he was not prepared, but for the two years after that? Sorry, not sorry that the new regime felt that he had to be replaced.
Tell me why Ereck Flowers deserved to keep his starting LT job? You can't. Tell me why the Giants should have picked up his 5th year option. You can't do that, either. And tell me why he isn't acting like a petulant brat with a ridiculously inflated sense of entitlement, because that's exactly how he's acting.
Im so sick of hearing Eli Apple and Ereck Flowers were the reason why this team sucked from start to finish when it was a complete team effort. Lets see what happens with the new and improved line or somewhat improved offensive line I dont even know what to call them at this point.
This is the truth. Flowers may suck, and may be a bad teammate and all kinds of other shit, but Collins is a dick for going on the radio to screw with the guys livelihood. This isnt the first time either.
is not pouting?
Tell me how that helps him and how that is looking out for his best interest.
Collins actually said a lot of players are simply more comfortable and think they get a better workout with their own trainers. Whether thats a good idea is debatable but its not like hes blowing off football.

Tony Mandarich was worse
It's not a thrilling experience.
That said, if he hasn't been paying attention to general consensus comments from those outside the organization, then he needs a real wake up call.
He said that Webb can make every throw, into small windows where only the receiver can catch the ball
Colins said he would know as he played against Webb in practice
He also offered that Webb is studious and has the temperament to be the man
Collins has excellent leadership qualities and should be the face of our D. Hopefully he's molded to be our Brian Dawkins. He has every right as the leader to call out Ol' Three Whiff for not showing up at camp.
Thats it. He was asked about every having a booth no as Boomer thought hed be great for it but he said that he wasnt meant to have ties to the NFL post playing career. Said he much more enjoys working with kids and lives off of the interest from his playing days. I love that answer, and I love how hes trying to teach youth and give them someone tangible to look up to.

Jacobs said that. Not Collins.
There was a long, long article last year about Eli and the family dysfunctions last year. And Flowers being upset about losing his position is just common sense. Of course, he is upset. The question is what he is going to do about it now that he hired a reasonable person to advise him.

That's just how morning shows are, and it's not unique to B&G. It's not unique to NYC. It's not unique to sports talk radio. Nearly every morning radio show, regardless of hosts, market, or format has their yuk-it-up elements.
One common denominator between Apple and Flowers is the involvement of the parents in their professional affairs. I'm not talking about guiding them but actually being the one calling the shots as their manager or agent. Obviously, it's a generalization but that has to be where the deluded sense of entitlement comes from. If you're in this fantasy land bubble of life as a professional athlete, you need an objective outside perspective in your camp that can ground your ego a little.
I simply think its more than show up or you are a shitty teammate like many like to subscribe to. As usual, fans blow most things out of proportion.
No NFL team will look at Flowers and say his decision to skip workouts under a new coaching staff and playbook is helping his future potential and his value as a player.

If you are playing/working at a high level, then yeah definitely would be upset about the demotion. But you have to have an honest assessment of yourself before you start throwing tantrums with your employer. While Flowers isnt quite a bust, he has not performed such that his displacement couldnt be justified. And nevertheless still collecting a hefty check.
"He is the future," Collins said when asked about his thoughts on Webb after watching him in practice. "When I play against him he puts some balls over my head, over Jackrabbit's (Janoris Jenkins) head in perfect spots where either the receiver is catching the ball or no one is catching the ball."
Boomer asked about how Webb is on the sidelines, in practice, and in games.
"Comfortable," Collins said using a word to describe Webb. "He's always next to Eli, earpiece in his ears, he's the future."
Would have loved to see Webb get a chance at some point last year.
