Collins on Webb

kelsto811 : 5/5/2018 2:53 am
Thought maybe it got a little lost with the talk about Flowers but this was during his interview yesterday on the Fan

"He is the future," Collins said when asked about his thoughts on Webb after watching him in practice. "When I play against him he puts some balls over my head, over Jackrabbit's (Janoris Jenkins) head in perfect spots where either the receiver is catching the ball or no one is catching the ball."

Boomer asked about how Webb is on the sidelines, in practice, and in games.

"Comfortable," Collins said using a word to describe Webb. "He's always next to Eli, earpiece in his ears, he's the future."

Would have loved to see Webb get a chance at some point last year.

As bad as last year was,

the thought of getting Eli's immediate and finished replacement clouded my thoughts going forward. Now that we took the the best player in thr draft but not a QB, I have started to become more and more angry that Webb wasnt thrown in there.

We will see. We have a little insurance with Lauletta....maybe he steps up and wins the job after Eli and Webb is a really nice back up? Or vice versa.

Hopefully between he and Kyle we have our future QB once Eli hangs them up. But until the bullets start flying, these assessments don’t mean a whole lot.

over Collins last year.
Well
joeinpa : 5/5/2018 7:33 am : link
I hope he is. I m rooting for him.

But the only thing I ve heard about him from his biggest supporters, like Paul Dottino, is what a great kid he is and how hard he works.

Admirable traits but in and of themselves not a lot to hang your hat on.
Certainly not a reason to pass on a potential franchise quarterback in the draft, which obviously the Giants did not feel was the case.

Was surprised to learn yesterday they were never going to take a quarterback with that pick.

But for guys like me who wanted the quarterback, Barkley is a pretty nice consolation pick. :)
Good to hear

But, we need to see it when bullets are real.

After Berkeley, he is the most interesting - must see - story for camp.

As time passes I am more and disgusted that JR took us into the toilet.
I will never believe that he didn’t undermine TC and his hiring of Bowel Movement as a coach had to have the element of a power gradient that many here will understand. What had BM ever done to give anyone the idea he could be a head coach?

JR was one of the worst drafting GMs of modern time
(You guys have provided the data), he is clearly an arrogant jackass(I’ll talk to you mid season and say nothing ).
You haven’t heard one person lament his departure. Don’t you dare give him magor credit for the first Super Bowl team- the first is not even worthy of conversation - the second he can take a bow for adding some nice pieces- I couldn’t stand him when I met him and I honestly believe his ego
And personal power surge buried us.

Stay away JR - you are a jackass - embarrassing for the Maras for sure
And at least for this 50 year fan

of those who believe that a franchise style QB MUST BE A CREBRAL QB, even more so than an athletically gifted Olympic type athlete. When you look at the best QBs in history (Peyton, Brady, Montana, etc.,) they are/were able to read constantly changing and ultra complex defensive schemes and are able to make adjustments to counter them on the fly in a matter of nano-seconds. All the athleticism in the world isn't enough to go up against defenses that know what's coming or know what the QB is probably going to do.

In both Webb and Lauletta we have two very cerebral QBs that are also gym rats and eat-drink-and sleep football and all its nuances. Being able to make a quality throw is extremely important and of course, necessary for winning, but having a brain that can outsmart defenses is vital to be that elusive "franchise QB".

Hence, Lauletta might end up being the best QB taken out of this draft. And wouldn't that just be a hoot!
Collins is tedious

Is Webb throwing agsinst Jacksonville’s secondary in practice? Does he know that there is a possibility that he might get his teeth up-rooted by a pass rush ? So much for practice .

4 weeks at the end of last season . Give him one half the field reads . See if he’s picking up the proper markers, if the ball is going to the proper place. Don’t worry about completion %, yards per throw, TDS, Picks- that’s not what you’re doing there . How does his ball react in the wind ? Can he throw out of a tunnel? Does he know where to step up, when to take it down and move? All of that was forsaken to give Spagnuolo a chance to add one more win to his putrid lifetime W-L record . The Redskins didn’t even show up for that game .

Screw practice observations . They are meaningless .

And still call MacAdoo bowel movements. Nice.

Sounds like you take this stuff pretty personal.

By the way, Reese's draft picks in 07 played a pretty significant role in that championship
Not playing Webb at some point last year was just plain stupid

if not egregious. Always will remember the posters that defended the Giants (the usual suspects) that proclaimed...
- "the coaches say he's not ready"
- "he couldn't beat out Geno"

or my absolute favorites...

- "how do you expect a rookie to have success with this offense if Eli cant?"
- "it will destroy the young man's self-confidence".

Yeah, I will go with egregious...

"Landon Collins suggests Lauletta has no future with Giants."
Was Eli a contributor to our 2017 demise or a bystander
BluesCruise : 5/5/2018 11:29 am : link
I would vote contributor.

He is virtually immobile. Even with our improved Oline if indeed it is improved he will remain immobile.

Eli should have gone to an excellent team lacking a real QB. Perhaps JAX

The fact Coughlin seemed uninterested speaks volumes about Eli's trade value.

People complaining about outlandish conspiracy theories about the Giants only caring about Eli Manning and not the future of the franchise have the Giants brass to blame. It sure looked like the Giants' top priority was PR and not the health of the franchise. PR with the absolute lowest common denominator to live in NYC and North Jersey.

I do take it personally. - not good - but I do
Have missed less than 5 games in 50 years - I’m 59 -
Not sure if JR did ‘07 draft without EA but it was a very strong draft for
being in the 20s slot

One of my go to sayings in life is “absolute power corrupts absolutely”
It is everywhere - I couldn’t stand JR in ‘07 and I can’t stand him now - cream rises - arrogance stinks

players generally say good things about team mates
youtoo2 : 5/5/2018 1:33 pm : link
if a player says another player is bad, it means he is absolute garbage. So this is not meaningful.

He will more likely twist this around saying that Collins and the rest of the team wants Webb to start over Eli.
