NFT: Indians (17-15) @ Yankees (22-10) - Sonny Afternoon Edition

Ace718 : 5/5/2018 11:37 am
Sanchez getting the day off with a day game after a night game. Conveniently Gray happens to be on the mound too.

Didi is also getting a day off today. Boone said it was a scheduled day off regardless of yesterday's incident at 2B.

Lineup

Gardner LF
Judge DH
Hicks CF
Stanton RF
Walker 1B
Andujar 3B
Torres 2B
Romine C
Torreyes SS

Sonny Gray pitching
I haven't been a fan of Gray
dune69 : 5/5/2018 12:02 pm : link
but he had a good outing against the Astros. They mentioned on Yankee post game that Sonny realizes that he has spent too much labor in nibbling and he wants to be more aggressive with strikes. Looked better in Houston. I will be pulling for him today.
Gray gets
lightemup : 5/5/2018 12:11 pm : link
the least amount of run support and Boone decides to fully rest sanchez. Why not dh him at least?
Question. When Didi rests, why does Toe play SS instead of 2B?
DennyInDenville : 5/5/2018 12:49 pm : link
Same with when Andujar DHs and Toe plays third.

I would play Toe at 2nd base, and play Torres at SS in those games.

Toe plays some great defense at 2B but is just solid at SS and 3B not great (arm sub par)

Is it simply just because Gleyber Torres has impressed so much at 2B and played Roberto Alomar level defense and they don't even wanna move him
Around and use his versatility anymore ? They'd rather just leave him at 2B for now and forever if he keeps that gold glove level defense.

Just a random observation , where the logic and math would say Torres at SS and Toe at 2B but maybe I answered my own question.
Sorry Torres at SS and 3B*
DennyInDenville : 5/5/2018 12:50 pm : link
But it's prob simply because he's been a legend so far defensively at 2B
1-2-3 for Gray
DennyInDenville : 5/5/2018 1:13 pm : link
Gotta love it .. hopefully he's finding himself
6 up 6 down for Gray

Sonny looks good
redbeard : 5/5/2018 1:28 pm : link
But we gotta get him comfortable with El Gary. Can’t be taking that bat out of the lineup every fifth day
Hicks and Judge lazy to

the ball and allows Zimmer to get a double. Error without being an error.

Random, don't mind this statement at all but
DennyInDenville : 5/5/2018 2:04 pm : link
Why can baseball players like Hicks or Arod continuously grab their crotches every minute and also make sure they do it atleast 5 times during ABs and it's cool (I agree no issues) but when Baker Mayfield does it it's bad

Just a random observation about baseball, players and crotch grabbing is just part of the game I guess

Not in a long time no. That's true though and makes sense. The way Hicks grabs it though it's like he's swagging up

I'm assuming when baseball players are "grabbing" their crotch they're adjusting their cups, not taunting their opponents

Not ideal but Didi is in a funk, got kicked in the head and needed a day off.

Gary, after the sad defensive showing last night needed a day. Although Boone confirmed that Chapman crossed up Sanchez on the 2nd WP.

It's not like they are hurting for batters....

Makes you wonder if they'll investigate other solutions for the walls. There must be a safer way for them to absorb impact.

#1 I think the warning track needs to be wider to give a fielder more than one step warning.

More padding is the only option.

Even better knowing we got 3 of our best players a day off and Gray with a good outing.
The Yankees still have a lot of upside on offense.
manh george : 5/5/2018 4:45 pm : link
Stanton will get better with warm weather and as he gets more used to being a Yankee. Gardner will either get better or lose PT--maybe to Frazier. Walker will get better or be replaced--probably by Drury. Judge will hit more out. Hicks is still getting his swing and eye back.

This team, when decently healthy, should be better than .254--eighth best in the league--in BA, and have even more HRs.

I do expect that Adujar could decline, as many rookies do after this hot a start. Didi should get closer to his normal--but not down by much. Most of the rest is still upside.
Keep riding the wave!

Makes sense for ARod, but being an outfielder, Hicks doesnt really need it. I only wore a cup when I caught and pitched. Wearing them in the outfield made it tougher to run full speed and I would get saddke soreness quite often.

Don't know what pros do. I never wore one because if my hands weren't fast enough to protect myself.... and yes, it does slow you down.

Wore mine for a week. Then put it in the bag until I had to catch or pitch. It got a little dicey trying to shove that monstrous hunk of plastic down my pants if I had to fill in at catcher mid game, but.... ;-)
