Lineup

Gardner LF
Judge DH
Didi SS
Sanchez C
Hicks CF
Walker 1B
Andujar 3B
Austin DH
Torres 2B

Domingo German on the bump, with his first MLB start.

Lets get this sweep and 9 out of 10 from the AL cream of the crop (outside of AL East)!

If this is the Walker were going to get the rest of the way...

fans are still clamoring to trade prospects for vets.

See what German can do and when Montgomery can come back. If Sheffield has 5 good starts in AAA, he can come up to audition.
How about Torres in the field today

the youth provides excitedment but come playoff time you need the vet presence and need a guy who has experience being the guy to shut down or at least slow the other team. i love our young kids...
but

1. we have a ton
2. we need a top end starter.
3. if german becomes that great but im looking for a guy at deadline if i am cash

Boone said he pinch hit Stanton because he knew he'd get the IBB because he wanted Gleyber up there. Hasn't taken long for the kid to get his manager's esteem, eh?

30M a year.

Also, the other teams ask for the sun and the moon when negotiating with the Yanks. Houston gave up very little for Verlander and Cole, the Yanks wouldnt have gotten it done with similar packages.

After all the trades, the only redundant prospects we have left are Wade, Adams, McKinney, and maybe Frazier according to some, not including all the power relievers who may not fetch much. You are not getting MadBum for them.

Tip of the hat to Neil Walker, who is starting to produce. As I've said, I'll be surprised if he's going anywhere anytime soon. He's a solid player who gives them a lot of flexibility, and assuming that he's getting back to the hitter he usually is, that's a handy guy to have around.

Last 3 or 4 games he has come thru big time. Think Austin will go the SWB when Bird is ready (thought that would happen anyway since he has options left). Walker also (knock wood) plays a good 1st base and has been solid on scooping balls in the dirt.

Takes away a RH optiin at 1st doesnt it?

I didn't take that at all as what Boone said. He said going into the 9th they were pinch hitting Stanton in the four hole there no matter the situation, and felt good knowing Gleyber was coming up.

I believe the question was more about why use Stanton there knowing he would be walked, and was it a confidence thing with Torres and not using Stanton for him? Boone didn't really say he wanted Torres up there but was confident and comfortable with him there. He had no problem with Stanton getting the possible IBB knowing Gleyber would bat next.

I get the excitement of rooting for home grown kids...its great.

But I have rooted for the team for many years. To me, if Cashman sees a way to improve...im for letting him trade while the aura of our farm successes adds a differential that may help us.

I trust that he wont make trades for trades sake...witness holding the line on Pittsburgh over Cole.

Three final things:

1) Knowing he does not have to trade makes Cashman truly able to deal from strength.

2) While we have prospects we want to hold on to; we also have a lot of RHP that wont be in slots 1-3.

3) The Yankees ( Hal Steinbrenner) are determined to get under the luxury tax. That also bounds Cashmans need to be disciplined.

Lost in all this is the possibility that Hal may be a much much better owner than George. Invests in infrastructure ( major and minor league coaching, tape analysis, scouting, first tier minor league instructions, facilities, analytics). Follows a long term plan and does not seem to panic or over and under react. Lately, Cashman made strong depth moves ( Drury, Walker) that helped or will help. Shows a good sense of the team

So for me, I don't think they will make a foolish trade or sell tomorrow for today. Obviously, not every trade works out but the odds do favor us if they see something that makes sense.

imo

Especially if a sane trade this year means we don't have to get stupid with next years FA crop
German looked great. Couple more

Exactly. Why are we talking trades when Severino is pitching like last year, Tanaka has looked good his last 3 outings as has Gray and we just got 6 innings of no hit baseball with 9 K from German? So we want to empty the farm to get a 4th starter?
This team is on an unreal run.

to win no matter what or who.

* When Judge flails at that down and away pitch trying to pull he looks awful, like most the game and yesterday. When he goes with the pitch, he's lethal.
* 16-2 in the tough early test 18 straight games. Very impressive
* what else can you say about Gleyber? He's got "it" like Jeter. WHatever the situation calls for, he can do it.
* Jim in Hoboken, you have forgive those who are stupid enough to think that George Steinbrenner was a good owner. THey actually think that they won due to his brilliance. The truth is the didn't win shit when he was in charge. It's no accident that the 2 WS runs in the GMS era were built while he was suspended from baseball. I will give him the credit for leaving two brilliant baseball men in charge while he was gone in Gabe Paul and Gene Michael. who he promptly drove away upon his return. I think Hal is a MUCH better owner and baseball man, and a more level hedaed, reasonable person.
Now if we can
Photoguy : 5/6/2018 5:17 pm : link
just get some of the big bats in the middle of the lineup going, we'll REALLY see some fireworks. I don't believe Sanchez is going to hit .200 all year, and neither will Stanton hit .230. Hopefully after the series with the Red Sox, there'll be some soft spots in the schedule.

and pointed out the issue that will drive the Yankees at the trade deadline. Cashman has to stay under the 197 all year, every day. Right now they are about 13 million under. So they're in pretty good shape for 2018. Once 2018 is over their tax goes back to 17% on money over the tax limit which will rise to 206 million and the Yankees have about 40 million in expiring contracts after 2018. Gardner, Robertson, CC & McCann. They can pretty much sign anybody they want for 2019.

415 feet / 104.4 exit velo per statcast.

Which I agree is amazing - so far hes seemed a very capable hitter, but Ive been picturing him with the proverbial gap power, maybe a 10-15 HR/year guy.

But hitting a rocket line drive 415 to dead center? Wow.

And then theres his stellar defense, on display again today.

On a team mostly young but with several already established stars, Gleybers already starting to shine as one of our cornerstone guys.

Amazing.

When your entire body screams of athleticism, you can handle a bit of extra body mass. The kid's a great athlete with a mind for the game and a pulse that stays very low under pressure, at the age of 21. Not to get too far ahead, but that's a superstar combination.
