This season has been awful. The characters haven’t developed, except Richard, who has been more assertive the past two episodes.
The Americans, on the other hand, is about to explode. Can’t wait for the last four episodes. Will be sad to see this go.
I am going to start watchinRay Donovan. I have heard great things.
Oh, and there haven't been any funny lines since episode 5.
A hit man takes up acting—and takes on TV’s antihero fixation—in Barry. - ( New Window )
Wait. Only eight episodes rather than ten?
people don't want to hear it because he seems like a major douche bag, sucks at stand up, and very likely committed domestic violence or sexual assault against a co-ed when he was in college.
but the show ended with TJ Miller.
While he's not a great actor, he had enough chops to carry the show with the unique supporting cast, now no one does.
it's a show of supporting actors with no one having enough presence to center it.
Sort of like when Michael Scott left the office, TJ is no Carell, not even close, but same point, IMO.
Others are welcome to their own opinion.
They just never added a new character to the show which is kind of strange for losing one of its top billed actors.
So what made you start watching the show to begin with? He was the "name" on the show, I guess or Mike Judge, but you knew who TJ Miller was and you knew he was the star of the show, right?
Or were you a big Thomas Middleditch fan?

Gavin Belson was fantastic in Season 4. This year, Dinesh is just lost. Someone made the point above. There aren’t any actors that carry the show.

Of this show from the beginning was TJ Miller. His act is so fucking stupid.

I watched it because it had gilfoyle who I enjoyed in freaks and geeks and party down. It had dinesh who I enjoyed on Franklin and Bash. And it was a comedy show by Mike Judge on HBO. My interest had 0 to do with TJ Miller
Having said that, Barry is amazing. What a fantastic episode yesterday. It's become what I look forward to for the Sunday night HBO session.

So you should love the show now then.
It's basically Gilfoyle (who is awesome and one of the few saving grace's on the show), Dinesh, and Jared providing comic relief to Richard's bumbling techie genius awkwardness with a side of Monica thrown in for balance.
Do you find it better now that TJ is off the show?

This season is just ok to me. I dont think the comedy has really been that great.
But yes I do enjoy a tiny bit more without having to see TJ. TJ is just like Dane Cook to me. In tiny bits I can take the comedy but given leading roles is way too much
Miller was also good as Stainer in She's out of your league.
Only other thing I saw him in was Yogi Bear with my kids.
So he doesn't bother me as much as Dane Cook.
In the Silicon Valley role he was perfect, in a show where everyone is a caricature he was a good fit.
The season finale of Barry was weird. I don't mean bad-weird, but dreamlike-weird. The whole sequence at the lake house seemed like a huge, abrupt jump forward in the narrative. I wasn't sure it wasn't a dream until the very end. It will be interesting to see where that story goes in Season 2. I don't know how Henry Winkler's Gene character can remain a comedy relief character going forward after this episode. But we'll see.
