All we heard on here pre-draft is how much the Giants loved Darnold and he was the only QB they’d take but, alas, the Browns were going to take him. How did that work out?
I would have been upset with the Chubb pick at 2nd overall.
The supposed Cleveland offer to get the 2nd overall in exchange for the 4th overall plus Cleveland's 33rd and 35th overall would have been a better move.
Cleveland likely would have taken Mayfield at 2, the Jets would have taken Darnold at 3. The Giants would have had the option of Chubb or Nelson at 4th overall or another trade down.
plug back in all the phones to see if anybody had an offer, and then ultimately pick Chubb
Good idea, except they didn't unplug the phones until after Mayfield was picked. I doubt there would have been panic, since DG probably figured there was a 50/50 chance Barkley was gone at #1.
But sadly, yes I think Chubb was 1B.
DG had the phones unplugged around 6pm that Thur evening Â
next 10 years, with an additional 1000 receiving per year. Combined with 25 TDs per season and he still would not have lived up to all the hype heaped on him in the last 9 months.
The fact the Giants had a shot at any of the 3 that were pushed forward by the media, was a complete surprise, and then they took Barkley, because the Giants are playing for now....even if they are not ready.....
Oh wait...

Question is, did Giants have it too? I dig advise to take a flier on the Vegas longshot 15-1 for Giants taking Mayfield. Not terrible advice.

I don't recall but a few posters wanting Rosen. It was a pretty fair mix between Rosen, Darnold, Allen, or a trade down. The rest wanted Barkley.

It as Rosen, Rosen, Rosen, 24X7. Nobody was asking for Josh Allen or Sam Darnold. The other 20% was Barkley or trade down

No doubt that's how it appeared to you.
Confirmation bias strikes again. You think that it was "Rosen 24x7" so those are the only posts you really noticed.
Especially when Rosen kept acting flaky in interviews.
I think several posters liked Rosen (and at least one with a stalking-like fetish), but not many really expected the giants to take him.
And in retrospect, it looks like a lot of teams thought the same way.
A classic 4-3 DE into a 3-4 OLB?
Sounds like a risky move, not a generational performance grade.
hmm.
