NFT: Neighborhood drama WWYD?

pjcas18 : 5/8/2018 1:03 pm
or maybe WWYHD (what would you have done, instead of what would you do) if you were any of the three neighbors involved.

this is a true story, names have been changed to protect all parties. All the below are male.

Neighbor A: Hardworking, friendly, knows everyone in the neighborhood

Neighbor B: friends with Neighbor A, lives directly across the street, socializes with him, kids play, wives get along, etc.

Neighbor C: sort of isolated, lives on the fringes of the neighborhood, towards the main road, neighbor B does not know neighbor C, but Neighbor A knows Neighbor C casually.

Neighbor C's fence fell down, he owns a large German Shepherd that he used to let out in his backyard now needs to walk it while fence is being repaired.

Neighbor B works from home and his office faces the street.

Neighbor C is walking his dog and Neighbor B observes Neighbor C's dog take a dump on Neighbor A's lawn. Neighbor C has headphones on, but stops and looks at his phone while the dog relieves himself on Neighbor A's lawn. Neighbor B tried to get Neighbor C's attention to tell him about the lawn defecation but due to headphones Neighbor C doesn't hear.

Neighbor A gets home and Neighbor B goes across the street and tells Neighbor A, that Neighbor C's dog dumped on his lawn and Neighbor C left it there.

Neighbor A is pissed gets a shovel, scoops up the poop, walks through the neighborhood with the crap filled shovel and flings the poop onto Neighbor C's driveway.

Neighbor C sees or learns about it, comes out of his house with some kind of paddle or bat and walks over to Neighbor A's house and confronts Neighbor A.

An altercation ensues, law enforcement is called.

So needless to say the neighborhood is abuzz with talk of Poop-gate, not to be confused with the superintendent who crapped on the school track.

If you were neighbor B would you just have kept it to yourself?

If you were neighbor A would you have just picked up the poop and disposed of it? Or maybe considered talking to neighbor C?

And neighbor C? Is the the most to be blamed?

the altercation when the guy came back. their house is being painted so they were home and outside and heard the commotion and I guess in true 2018 fashion decided that recording the incident was the thing to do. to their credit they said they had no intent and did not post it on social media.

Neighbor C's lawn.
I should also add
pjcas18 : 5/8/2018 1:21 pm : link
neighbor A is a multi-millionaire and takes impeccable care of his lawn. lots of people run and walk dogs in the neighborhood though and he's had issues in the past, so he has this sign on his lawn, under a tree, making it slightly less tacky.

But point is he's had this issue before and is one of those lawn zealots who spends a lot of time and money on his lawn.

He should go the next step and get a fence then , a nice picket fence or something wholesome
My father did what Neighbor A did
RiffRaff : 5/8/2018 1:24 pm : link
but a little worse I think, but I'll let you decide that. In my dad's case, he witnessed his Neighbor C's dog take a crap on his lawn. This was in the 70's when dogs in our neighborhood in Rochester, NY could roam freely without their owners. Either way, my dad was not happy. So he picked up the poop with a shovel, and actually went to the door of neighbor C and rang the bell. Neighbor C answered the door and took a step out. At that moment, my dad said, "I think this belongs to you," and turned over the shovel to allow the poop to fall to the ground. Unfortunately or fortunately, it fell on Neighbor C's foot instead. A fight did not ensue because both gentlemen were both apologetic. My dad for dropping the poop on his neighbor's foot, which was not what he had intended, and Neighbor C for his dog's indiscriminate pooping on my dad's lawn.

Regarding this whole encounter, I think what Neighbor A did was fine, and Neighbor C is a gigantic lazy asshole. Plus I don't agree with eli4life, Neighbor B did the right thing looking out for his friend and neighbor. That's what we all should do for each other when we live in a community. Look out for your neighbors when the need arises. Wouldn't you want your neighbor to tell you if someone is vandalizing or damaging your property? I would.
Since I'm not an asshole...
Mike in Prescott : 5/8/2018 1:26 pm : link
...Unlike most of the alphabet, If the dog went on my lawn without the owner knowing about it, I would a: clean it up, disposing of it properly. Then b: go to neighbor C's house and have a polite discussion and ask if he could please be mindful of the dog. Perhaps make a joke of it. Ask how the back-yard fence repair is going, and possibly turn an annoying, but not really tragic situation into a new neighbor relationship.

WTF has happened to the idea of manners and looking out for each other as neighbors? Seriously, what a bunch of selfish dick-wads.
Agreed with Mike
Mad Mike : 5/8/2018 1:30 pm : link
Clean it up and then tell the guy - hey, your dog pooped on my lawn and you left it there. Don't do that again.

The first guy should have been paying more attention (if indeed he really didn't see it happen), but there's no need to shovel it up onto his driveway in retaliation.
If you ask me
T-Bone : 5/8/2018 1:30 pm : link
Neighbor C is at fault. It was HIS dog that shitted in Neighbor A's yard. He should've been an adult and accepted the blame as far as letting his dog shit on Neighbor A's yard. I wish a dude would let his dog shit in my yard... and when I put HIS dog's poop in HIS own yard (whether it be the driveway, walkway or front porch)... he come at me with a paddle trying to do something.

Neighbor C fucked up. Own it and move on.

I agree. I'm conflicted, I grew up in a very different neighborhood, it was really projects raised by a single mother and we lived mostly by the "snitches get stitches" code. Not to be overly dramatic, but that's really how it was.

but now, living in suburbia, there is almost nothing that pisses me off more than finding a steaming pile of crap on my lawn. I don't let my dog crap on my own lawn, and I don't let my dog crap on someone else's lawn. No idea why, but it infuriates me.

So if I was neighbor A, I'd definitely want someone to say something to me. But based on how I was raised I'd probably mind my own business. Not sure. Like I said, I'm conflicted. I'd want someone to tell me, but not sure if I'd say something to someone else.

I definitely wouldn't be neighbor C.

How is he innocent? He let his dog take a crap on someone else's lawn and didn't pick it up. I don't know what the law is in that area, but in most communities around the country, if you don't clean up after your dog, you can get a hefty fine for it. It's illegal to just let your dog take a crap any where it likes. Cleaning up after your dog is one of the responsibilities of ownership. If you can't do that, then you shouldn't own a dog.

Neighbor B is not the worst. He was looking out for his neighbor and tried to alert Neighbor C that he should clean up after his dog because he knew Neighbor A would go ballistic.

Neighbor A on the other hand should have just thrown the poop out and then had a conversation with Neighbor C to please clean up after his dog. If Neighbor C copped an attitude at that point, then bombs away from then on out.

Ditto here. I like T-Bone's solution too.

pjcas18 - I hear ya about the differences in neighborhoods. Different cultures and norms to follow from each place. Where you grew up, keeping your mouth shut was a self-preservation thing, and completely understandable. Granted it does allow assholes to do whatever they want to whoever they want with impunity. I haven't lived in that environment, so it's easy for me to say that. I imagine if I had to live in the projects, my attitude / opinion would be different about it.

Hopefully things will cool down, and things won't escalate any further with these Neighbors.

We have several summer get togethers/block paties in the neighborhood (I've never seen neighbor C there) and it's one of the neighborhoods where people bring their kids to go trick or treating, so nothing like this has ever happened that I'm aware of, it's a great neighborhood normally.

Years ago some lady kept crapping her dog in my folks' front yard, all over the ivy and sometimes near the flowers, and never picked it up. My mom saw her one day and said "can you please not do that here?" (my mom's too nice) and the lady made a face and walked away, but it was still going on the next week.

I was stopping by one day that summer when she happened to be there with the dog and I let her have it - "get your fucking dog the fuck off my yard, how about I follow you home and take a shit in your yard," that sort of thing. A bit of an overreaction on my part, but she never came back!

You have to provide benefit of the doubt to him 1.) Narc passive neighbor B to scared to shoulder tap him about the poop 2.) Maybe he really didn't know or see

Neighbor A should have then either cleaned it up one time and confronted the Neigbor C about it in the future , or instead of cleaning the poo and throwing it on the driveway, putting it into a paper bag, ringing the door bell, and saying hey I know this was your dogs poo, please don't have him Poo in my yard again bro, okay? Like a true Alpha male would do ..

Instead everyone became an emotional wreck and called the cops

Sounds like neighbor B sucks balls. And is a drama queen.

Neighbor A is probably an arrogant twat who thinks he is George Zimmerman neighborhood dictator. AT the least, he could have dumped the shit after bedtime and none the wiser.

Neighbor C is probably millennial selfish trash who thinks nothing but of himself. And uses violence to sort problems bc he is of lower intelligence.

1) Neighbor A is an asshole who overreacted to a situation that is most likely an outlier. He should have at least inform Neighbor A of what his dog did and allow him to correct his error instead of going rambo

2) Neighbor B did nothing wrong except he should have ran out there to stop Neighbor A after he narc'd out Neighbor C
|
3) Neighbor C needs to be more considerate and/or attentive and he also overreacted to what Neighbor A did in retaliation. He could have defused it by contacting Neighbor A (after his stupid reaction) and simply inform him that it was a mistake that didn't require Neighbor to go full on Asshole

He's let his dog shit on my lawn plenty of times, and on a few of those instances, I ended up stepping in it. So I got a paper towel, picked up the shit, and left it on my neighbor's front step. After the second time doing that, my neighbor doesn't let his dog shit on my yard anymore.

A welcome byproduct is that the dog doesn't piss on my lan anymore either. Because I don't know what the hell is in that urine, but everywhere the dog pisses, the grass dies.
