Good thing Boone didn’t give up on Grady like some were calling for. He’s a crucial player for this team

Yup, too early to really grade Boone’s work, but he’s showed a steady hand with guys like Walker, Betances and Gardner and it’s paying off so far
fans getting spoiled and reactionary

imagine that. Maybe folks will remember this chapter of the Gardner saga the next time around? Or maybe we can just go ahead and apply the same lesson to Tanaka, ie. he will round into form just like he did last year. I won’t hold my breath for folks to behave with patience.

Build a bullpen or what?!!

I've said it before:
3rd place, maybe.

Bottom 3-4 of the lineup is worse than the bullpen.

5 man O,4 man trainwreck; 1&1/2 man rotation, 1&1/2 man bullpen, 13 rosterfillers.

He has seemed a bit more hittable lately. Allowed three inherited runs to score in the final game in Houston, they hit a few hard right at guys off him last night. I suppose compared to his generally unhittable form you could say he’s been meh. But he’ll be fine

Yes Greg, Green has been "meh." Jesus Christ you are a hard on. He has not been hitting his spots and while recording k's hes been getting hit a lot harder this year and more frequently because he has missing his spots.

Yes, Green has not been as good as he has been in the past. Fact.

Got to trust the back off the baseball card and believe that they’ll get back to the players they’ve always been. I can understand fans are less patient but some of the reactions I was seeing (not necessarily from our group here) after a somewhat slow start (it was only 9-9!) we’re downright ridiculous.

Pretty much exactly what I meant. No I dont think he is meh as a reliever. But last year when he would come in, he was overpowering and precise. People compared him to Andrew Miller. If he got hit hard once every 10 at bats....that was the norm. His last 3 outings, he has been meh in terms of what I have come to expect from him. Maybe Im spoiled, but his last few outings have been meh.
Yeah it happens

Nor I. Chapman looked shitty for a spell last year. We have Kahnle coming back, Warren too...we are in a good spot.
Chapman is going to need a day off tomorrow

Unless it gets into an all nighter extra inning affair, which seems about right for these 2 teams. Robertson and (hold your breath) Betances will have to shoulder the high leverage innings if it comes to it.
Just got home from the ballpark

what a great one. Great to see Gardy rip the ball all over the place tonight. Great slide by Gleyber on the winning run. obviously being there had a great view and much of the way I thought he was meat at the plate. when Judge came up I turned to my brother and said damnit I'd love to see him take asshole 440! and Boom...When Chappy has his control he is as close to unhittable as there is in the game. Just looking up at the scoreboard you can see something striking looking at the 2 lineups- half the damn Sox lineup (Betts, Moreland, Boegarts, and JD Martinez) are hitting like .340 or better. While you look at the Yanks BA's and you see a lot of .230's and lower.

Wishful thinking by you. They're going to be right there with us all season, and both their lineup and rotation are better than you're giving them credit for. They're perfectly built to beat up on bad teams, of which there are plenty this year.
Green is not "meh."
section125 : 5/10/2018 7:32 am : link
Did he have a meh night? Maybe. Let's not forget the Red Sox have a .302 team BA. It is the best hitting team in baseball. I'm not excusing him for hanging the slider to Ramirez, but he and Robertson are the two guys you want to see coming out of the pen at anytime.
Great pitchers get chewed up sometimes. Ask Kimbrel, who is one of the best closers in baseball. Good hitters work the count and crush mistakes - see Gardy and Judge last night.

Another day and another opportunity to break Boston's heart.

The real issue with the Sox team...
Dunedin81 : 5/10/2018 8:25 am : link
is not the offense. They have plenty. It's not the defense, which is on the whole one of the best in baseball. It's not even the bullpen, which will probably have a top 5 ERA in baseball if you discount the games they play the Yankees. The real issue is the rotation. Healthy it is a competitive rotation, led by a legit ace and with three guys who at their best profile as quality mid-rotation starters at this point. But Price, Pomeranz and Rodriguez have significant health concerns and their depth is crap. We, by contrast, have a number of prospects who, if they pitch to their abilities, can more than fill in, including a top prospect who could be MLB-ready by the second half (Sheffield). They just lost their biggest trade chip until mid-2019 at the earliest with Groome's TJS, so their ammunition to get more than filler starting pitching is pretty limited. But make no mistake, this is a quality team and if the Yankees hit the skids or have rotation health issues of their own Boston is plenty capable of taking this division.

Yep. Sox are legit. Kind of ironic though that the Yanks rotation is turning out to be a +.

Agree with most of the post but not the defense. Their infield D is avg at best. Devers has committed an insane amount of errors so far, Bogaerts is nothing special, Pedroia is great but lets see him healthy, Nunez we all know is a butcher and Hanley is awful at 1B, Moreland made a big time play to rob Gardy last night but is nothing special.
Mission accomplished, series won. A sweep woud be gravy
Victor in CT : 5/10/2018 8:42 am : link
* pitching again favors the Yanks today with CC vs. Rodriguez
* Gardy rose from his BBI grave last night didn't he?!
* Sanchez also with 2 hits, back over the Mendoza lina.
* What can you say about Judge? Just when he looks like he's in a dive, he adjusts and goes 3-4 with a dinger and 4 ribbies, back up to .308
* Didi is ice cold, but his mates are picking him up.
* Stanton looks like he's getting used to playing in games that matter and loving it.
* 18-2 in their last 20. ANd many key guys (Sanchez) have ywt to hit their stride, or haven't played (Bird)
* Looka like Betances is back in the Chateau bow wow. He was rested, yet they went with Green who piched the night before. Be nice to get Warren and Kahnle back, get rid of Holder and Shreve.

Devers is not great, Bogaerts is a quality SS, Pedroia and Moreland are above average. Their defense behind the plate is good and their outfield defense is probably the best in baseball. On the whole they're one of the four or five best defensive teams in baseball.
