His asking price this year is $8M +/-.
At that price he has to find the exact fit for what he brings to the table.
He's a space eater really and there's probably limited bucks out there for that.
Not much of a pass rusher. Very good at some things, not elite at anything. Not a core building block, more of a complementary player. Not a scarce commodity, but probably wants to be paid like one.
He's probably underrated.
Teams are cautious about eating up a lot of cap space on a guy who doesn't seem to be a difference-maker.
I think he'll get a job once teams have a clearer idea what their needs are. He may have to take less money than he expected to get. At that point, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take off in a Linval Joseph-type arc and become a force. If the Pats signed him I bet he'd thrive under Little Bill.
No, it is not surprising. He did not have a good year last year. Â
He could compete to start at DE opposite Tomlinson. If he won the starting job the Giants would have the benefit of a healthy DL rotation with Hill, McIntosh, Mauro, and Wynn.
Kevin Poston, despite being a major league turd got Hankins 10M last year in what amounted to a show-me deal.
Hankins is not a 10M a year player, and the Giants were aware of that. He's not a dirt cheap player either, and when Poston calms down, can probably get him a 2 year 12M type deal.
RE: RE: RE: He is unsigned because of the comp formula Â
Last year he was in no hurry to sign until he got an offer he liked, so the same could be happening this year. I wonder if Jacksonville has interest. Coughlin knows him well and the Jags play a 4-3.

Yes, the flood of ex-Giants pouring into Jacksonville is a painful and obvious commentary of what the feelings in Jax are about our roster.

When we kick their ass in Week 1 it'll be a more obvious commentary on our roster.
Not that happy with the way we've handled ourLinval Joseph was better. Â
Probably Cofield as well. Never understood why we didn't give any of these guys a second contract. I guess they weren't worth the money, but if we had signed Lin Joseph we could have saved two 2nd round picks. Makes me miss Leonard Marshal and Keith Hamilton. We took William Joesoph over Ed Reid! Will Tomlinson get resigned?? Still a few years away from an answer.

Ed Reed was drafted in 2002.
William Joseph was picked in 2003.

exactly, giants should have traded our 2003 1st and 3rd for the Ravens 2002 1st round pick and selected Ed Reed. No foresight though.

He had one good season (2014) and has otherwise been a mediocre DT.
Oh, my bad. I thought the date was later.

I thought it didn't matter since he was cut? I could be getting that wrong.

Fuck, you are correct. I hate that my brain sucks lately. Thanks. I feel like I need a slap upside my head.
But he was way overpaid last season for what he brings to the table.....the reason he was released, was because they were going from a 3-4 to a 4-3?
They signed him after he played a 4-3 with the Giants! Duh!
He has probably seen other guys coast through the summer.
If he ends up being cheap enough, I wouldn't mind having him back in the DL rotation.
