Step up, step back or be gone

XBRONX : 5/12/2018 11:11 am
There are a number of players slotted for starting positions, or at least some playing time. I am talking about players who were on the roster last year. The list includes, Flowers, Wheeler,Rosas,J Adams, Lewis, Thompson, Goodson,Apple,Wynn,Herzlich, Moss, and Okwara. Some of these players could find themselves without a roster spot.
IMO

Wheeler, Thompson, Apple(unless he has another meltdown), Goodson, and Moss are locks for the roster. The solid offseason combined with the lack of depth at OT will work in Wheeler's favor. As of today I have him penciled in as the starting RT. I think Herzlich will be let go. Tae Davis is a darkhorse who could take his roster spot. Davis is reportedly a special teams stud so he could take Herzlich's spot on the roster.
I think

Step back and be gone are pretty much the same thing
I wouldn't consider Apple a lock.

Things seem fine now but he has to prove that he has the mental capability to oveecome adversity. Nothing that has happened from the end of the season until now has really changed that.

He has done everything right so far. I wanted Apple gone at the end of last season but I can't see how the Giants would trade him unless he forced their hand. The lack of depth at CB is a serious concern. Who starts opposite Jenkins if Apple is gone?
Who knows

What his sit down with DG resulted in, other than a clean slate, but maybe that meeting and an adult HC, a new D system, an offseason to start to mature, and more leaders to help him can turn Apple around.
I hope so for his sake.

This is really just semantics. A lock to means there is 0 percentage chance he is not with the team. Gettleman has already shown that he is changing the culture of this team. Everybody starts with a clean slate. However, that doesn't mean he will accept someone to tear this team down from the inside like last year. So, just because you feel Apple is a lock because of our lack of depth at the position is an opinion. I agree that our depth is questionable but he also pulled the FT from Norman and didn't give a fuck. So, imo, Apple is not a lock. Likely to be on the team? Yes. A lock? No.

I can't disagree with that. If Apple reverts back to last year's behavior then he will surely be gone as DG and Shurmur will not tolerate that behavior as their predecessors did. I just believe that Apple will behave this season but you're right that's just my opinion.
I hope he matured from the events of last year

and uses it as motivation. We need him to have a great year.

As do we all, It is very worrisome to think that Eli Apple is crucial to the success of the secondary. If he behaves like he did last season or regresses then the defense could be in a lot of trouble. Janoris Jenkins is the defensive player the Giants can least afford to lose this season. If he goes down for a while then things could get ugly.
Apple has to be a lock.....
Doomster : 5/13/2018 9:03 am : link
We can't change the whole team in one off season....

What is worrisome, is what Reese left us....a team with absolutely no depth......we have bodies but not players....
