It is mostly unfounded at this point, perhaps at this point I had the same sort of confidence in Mac, but not the same optimism. I think it is partly due to DG. To my very untrained eye DG seems to be trying to give Betcher and Shurmur players that fit what they want to do. It certainly does not hurt that Barkley is one of those players. I know it is all a work in progress but I feel like management is working as a team. Does anyone else feel the same about these guys or think I got it all wrong?

and had to basically beg Gettleman to draft Lauletta a few rounds later...
100% false
Yup 100% false. We heavily scouted Lauletta and had a second round grade on him.
Hmmm, and yet he was taken in 4th round. Which is why Shurmur had to push for it.
Yawn same old boring bullshit thoughts that have 0% merit. You make the claim why not show even a little bit of proof? Oh that’s right because there isn’t any

Yawn youself. Are you suggesting Shurmur didn't want Lauletta?
If any coach is going to get Eli back on track, we have the right guy.
I feel confident enough in Shurmur's ability to coach and work with QB's that if Eli looks shot again in 2018, I think we'll know that it's not the coaching and it's just that Eli has hit that wall.
So, for all of the people who have been entrenched in the "Eli is done/Eli is not done" debate all these months/years - I think we're going to get a definitive answer this season.
With me it's more about experience. Mac was a complete unknown, he really had no resume.
I am treading cautiously.....one year is not going to work for me(unless he is a complete failure).....after two years, we will know what we have in DG and Shurm.....
It's hard to believe that we will be not be better....but I just don't know until I see how this team plays after the next two seasons...
Is this a playoff team that will make some noise? I don't think so, but I believe we are headed in the right direction.....another good draft, and replacement of players via free agency could finally put us in that position next season.....
I am cautiously optimistic for the up coming season.....I can't believe that Shurm will run an offense like Mac did these last two seasons....
Good post, completely agree. I have felt all offseason that we are gearing up to do our best this year and shore up some holes next offseason (CB, RT) to make a serious run the following year. Never know, I didn’t expect them to win in 2007 or 2011 going into the season and look what happened. If we can stay relatively healthy this year and get hot at the right time anything can happen. From a schedule perspective, the first half is brutal, if we can get out of there 5-3 or 4-4 we have a chance to make a run in the second half of the season.
You're right - but it's worth mentioning what team it was with and the fact that in the last 20 years, the Browns had like 3 years total where they did any better than they did with Shurmur.
I think they had one solid year with Crennel, one or two okay years with Butch Davis and one "respectable" year with Mike Pettine.
Shurmur is very much unproven as a HC - but I think he does have a solid resume as an offensive guy and has done some pretty good work with QB's. He's certainly more proven than McAdoo was when we first hired him.
Nothing is guaranteed at all. But I do think Pat Shurmur is a good offensive coach and I think he will be much better for both Eli and the young guys than McAdoo was.
Given what our choices were and who was available - I think this was probably our best option. We'll see how it plays out.
I have no idea what Shumur was thinking ,wanting during draft....but he does seems genuinely pleased with how the team is forming.
+1. I like Collins. He is a great player, but his media appearances seem to be getting him in trouble so far. He needs to apply all that tuff love we hear from him inside the locker room. His instincts are good, but we don't need to ever hear about it. He needs to be more like Eli with the media. When they ask about team business he needs to basicly no comment the media however he feels most comfortable doing so. No more publicly throwing teammates under the bus.... No matter how much they deserve it.
This is based off your ability to read minds? I love when people on Bbi write crap as fact. Shurmur clearly felt he can work with Eli and maybe even Webb. He turned keenum into a competent starter. Between lauletta and Webb one will succeed. In Shurmur I trust

Same here. It's refreshing to see the HC step up an tell a player to shut up about internal goings on.
