NFT: Yanks v. A's....rain delayed Sunday

chopperhatch : 5/13/2018 4:49 pm
Toe in for Torres, Sevvy dealing so far....3-0 good guys.
Severino
chopperhatch : 5/13/2018 5:03 pm : link
With 6 k thru 4...Andujar with a great play on a potential troublemaking line drive to left to end the 4th. The knock on him was supposed to be his D, but he has been borderline outstanding to this point of the season.
Unfortunately, Austin is a complete black hole
Neckbone1333 : 5/13/2018 5:08 pm : link
On offense. Id like to see Neil Walker a lot more.
Sanchez
chopperhatch : 5/13/2018 5:16 pm : link
Botching a throw at the plate, but I doubt he gets him anyways. 3-1 Yanks.

Though if he eats the run he probably gets the runner trying for third. Shitty sequence.
Oof. Davis just missed giving Oakland the lead

Good to know. I can only follow the games on MLB game tracker, so I really can't tell what's a hard hit ball and what isn't, unless someone on the game threads says something. Thanks chop.

Go to reddit.com/r/mlbstreams and look for the Yankees game 5-10 minutes before the game starts. You'll be able to stream it for free. Better then watching on a game tracker.

Second this. I have the game on my lap top with a little bluetooth speaker while I watch something else on the tube. I usually do this for standard games. Not Boston or a biggie.

The reddit streams are awesome.

No hes hit a couple fairly hard even oppo. But one was to Death Valley, the other right at the LF. He jas made decent contact.
Brandon Drury had another
YANKEE28 : 5/13/2018 8:01 pm : link
double today.

His 20 day rehab ends Tuesday, so something has to happen.

My guess would be that Drury returns and Tyler Austin is sent down (though that would be Lind, Ford and Austin as 3 first basemen on the Rail Riders).

Could also move Hale, since the Yankees have 2 days off next week.
Ive been watching the games on my iPad

Stanton last year on May 13: .259, 11 HR, 26 RBI.
Stanton this year on May 13: .252, 10 HR, 26 RBI.

He finished at .281, with 59 homers and 132 RBI last year.
Sevy 6-1 with a 2.14 ERA.

Homegrown ace, how sweet it is.
Odd that we have two off days this week -
Del Shofner : 5/13/2018 8:52 pm : link
- Monday and Thursday - not common at this time of year. Not a bad thing, however, I think the whole pitching staff (other than Sevy) can use a little break. As for Drury coming up - I'm not sure he's 100% yet from what I've read. And has he been taking reps at 1B?

wonder where that's heading. Can't really fit another outfielder right now.
Another fun fact...
Dave in Hoboken : 5/13/2018 9:16 pm : link
the 1998 Yankees were 31-9 through the first 40 games of the season.

This year's team is 28-12 through the first 40 games. Only 3 games behind the '98 squad. Not bad.

Huh? Pinch hit bat? I also can't imagine Stanton is a better fielder than he is so he would essentially be our 4th OF.
Yeah, the Clint situation is a tough one.
bceagle05 : 5/13/2018 9:22 pm : link
Do you really want to jettison this guy for Fullmer or Archer? I don't. We can develop and/or buy pitching, and Clint could hit 30 HR for us someday soon. But Gardy is coming around, Hicks is a Cashman favorite, and Ellsbury is an albatross, so the odds aren't in his favor this season.

I still dream of Torres, Frazier, Bird, Judge, and Sanchez all in one lineup. Throw in Andujar, and pick a day Sevy is pitching. A Baby Bomber bonanza.

Gardner is a FA after this year I believe. Plus hes 34. Hicks is a FA in '20. Even if Gardner sticks around another few years, we are going to need a LF replacement. Unless the pitcher is a 2a or 2b (like the Astros got with Cole), I dont want to trade him. We apparently blew it on Sonny Gray giving up Fowler. We gave up Rutherford for bullpen dominance. Would be dumb to trade this kid when we have an older LF who replaces a brittle CF when he gets dinged.

For what it's worth, box score credits him with a fielding error.

I think he is minimum 2 years away. I think 2020 is realistic.

I think Brett is gone after this year (and I love the guy). Stanton, Judge, Hicks, Frazier is what they will have next year.

I wouldn't throw dirt on Gardner's grave yet. Still a stellar OF at LF and CF; have to believe he will return to his normal hitting, minus last year's HRs; still the best base runner on a fast team (2nd fastest in the AL - heard that yesterday); likely an unnamed captain.

Yes. Because if:
Bill2 : 5/14/2018 9:43 am : link
1) The bottom of the order and Gardner hits/gets on base better than early season ( Torres, Walker and Andujar and Gardner is much more formidable group in front of Judge that last year and compared to most teams)

2) Stanton hits better as the season goes on

3) Warm weather makes for a ball that carry further

Then it is possible for Judge to hit 50Hrs and 150 RBIs and get better pitches to hit as the pressure from a return to norm by Didi, Byrd, Stanton and Sanchez turns into pitchers having to pitch to him.

fun player to root for. Good guy, does not take games or AB's off, has a well rounded game on the bases and in the field
Was it the camera work
Elisthebest : 5/14/2018 9:51 am : link
yesterday during the Boone press conference or does he have "Aikman hands"?
Florial has had an interesting start to the year
Dunedin81 : 5/14/2018 9:55 am : link
his K rate is down and his walk rate is up (slightly, on both counts) but he hasn't hit for a ton of power so far. He has been remarkably consistent in finding a way onto the stat sheet every game for a month plus, 28 straight games on base (they count sacrifices). So nothing to upset the prospect apple cart, but he hasn't been Acuna either.
Judge is incredible. The one thing I'd like him to do more
yatqb : 5/14/2018 9:57 am : link
is swing at first pitch fastballs. Go up looking for them. Because teams know he's gonna take that first fastball on the outside corner, and throw in 9 times out of ten.

His 3 run homer the other day, in his 3rd AB, he went up looking fastball, got it, and drove it out of straight away CF.

As great as his OBP and walk totals are, his power is that much more valuable. At the cost of repeating myself, I'm suggesting a bit more aggressiveness early in the count could add to his power numbers.
People really jumped on the Florial bandwagon a bit too quickly
Greg from LI : 5/14/2018 9:58 am : link
He was always more of a project than many fans were willing to admit. He's still a guy with a very high ceiling, but it's going to take some time.

Greg from LI : 5/14/2018 9:59 am : link
I don't know, given who is hitting behind him, I don't know that there's good reasons to be overly aggressive.
Not overly aggrsssive, Greg. Just not so passive as to get into 0-1
yatqb : 5/14/2018 10:03 am : link
or 1-2 counts more often than he needs to. Looking for the pitch you want right off the bat isn't the same as being overly aggressive. Sometimes that first pitch is the best one you get in the entire AB.

He's such an interesting prospect, because the power potential and the strikeouts suggest a streaky guy but that really hasn't been his MO. The hype is absolutely deserved and I would submit his "bust factor" isn't as high as you might think, but you're absolutely right that he is a couple years away.
