mildly surprised by Bisnowaty, but not terribly so. As others have said, we kept signing street FAs last year instead of promoting him from the PS. Another failed day three OL. We actually traded up for him, albeit in the sixth round.

I'm more surprised by Dixon. I thought he had enough good moments last year to at least come to camp.

did Reese suck at drafting offensive lineman. I mean I know Bisno was a 6th round pick, but he couldnít make last years initial roster even though we had crap to choose from and he couldnít beat out a bunch of UDFAís this year. I still canít believe how much cash was laid out by Arizona and SF for Pugh and Richburg. They will regret those contracts soon enough.
and he wasn't too good with the other positions.

IMHO never had the quickness needed for the NFL.

+1.
Even I was that watching UPitt games.
The upside: at least Reese didn't pick him in the second or third, where we needed OL picked in at least 1 of those 2 rounds.

No but he did move up in the 6th round to draft him and blew a 7th rounder.

But I remember he got his ass handed to him the week of the Senior Bowl. Tanoh Kpassagnon abused him routinely, IIRC.

It is very alarming that going into training camp, Reese's backup plan at RT was Bisnowaty.

I found this pretty interesting about Robert Martin

Goes to show how difficult scouting really is, especially down in the 5th/6th/7th/UDFA scrum. So many variables to contend with.

Eric on your Depth Chart you have Mike Jones listed twice. First as a CB, than as a RB instead of Robert Martin.

Exactly, it wasnít that he ignored the line, he just didnít know who to draft. And his free agent pickups left a lot to be desired as well (eg. Schwartz).

Iím still waiting for the real house cleaning when will it come and when will we stop wasting money on contracts for guys who canít even make it thru warm ups to real camps? Every year they do the same thing sign way to many guys who donít even make it thru warm up camp. Are they required to keep a certain number of players or is it the teams option. Why have 90 guys when 20+ of them are easily wasting everyoneís time including the coaches. Itís better to run thirty plays with guys who have a shot to make the team then 60 with mostly guys with no ability.

How would you characterize Reese's drafting considering this fact; In the 9 years between 2004 through 2012, a grand total of 2 premium picks in round 1 through 3 were spent on O-line players (Snee 2004, Beatty in 2011)? That's an 11% investment on the 5 O-line positions.

Maybe Reese didn't put a high value enough on Oline, maybe he and his scouts were just poor at scouting them.

To me, you have to be willing to make a larger investment on OL in the way of premium draft picks (rounds 1, 2, 3), or get unusually lucky via free agency, to build an effective O-line.

Maybe
Dragon : 5/15/2018 5:31 am : link
They also felt those guys many thought were going to be great much like this QB class they just liked other guys more. Well the new management just invested premium dollars UFA and draft pick during itís first try at fixing the OL letís see how that works out.

Meanwhile compare to Hernandez, DG's first olineman.

Compare to what exactly, the guy hasn't played a single down yet and could be a complete bust, you don't know at this point so a comparison is pointless.

Other than Richburg, I never liked any of Reese's OL picks, often reaches, or overpaid FAs like Schwartz and Baas. I'm actually excited about Hernandez fwiw.

I'll scream it from the rooftops, but sy clearly lays out the prospects strengths, weaknesses and current pro comp. Can cruise through an entire list of OL in a few short minutes.

About 15 minutes in to the other review, I was still on the part about Pittsburgh being a steel town and Bis excelling at chalk tossing in elementary school.

What a heavy cost to pay. A whole 7th round pick. When you have the chance to hold on to a 7th round draft pick, you absolutely must do it.
he is not going to be on and off the roster...
