In the early going, one thing stands out about Coach. He has a fatherly presence and adult demeanor to his approach. He balances a calm sense of communication with a no no nonsense message. I like everything coming out of his thoughts, mouth and actions to date.
I will guarantee you Collins will never speak of another player in the media again. Coach did not need to yell and scream, or act somewhat cryptic, which was a hallmark of Reese and Mcadoo's approach. He dealt with up front, clean and neat. No bull crap, it's over before it began. That will play very well into the fine dance a coach needs to have with the NYC media. Eli is a master at it.
I really hope his decision making on the field holds serve with his approach off of it. From my seat, I've been very impressed that he was able to get OBJ to voluntary camp. I've been very impressed that mere days after communicating with Flowers he's in the building, and I'm extremely happy he doesn't show favorites as well. Collins is one of our key leaders, which didn't leave him immune to a critique. He level set the expectation for this team, top down.
I almost wonder if that is the key aspect of his QB whisperer rep. Great communication.

I wonder how close we really came to that New England Coordinators debacle. Whether it was luck or not (did we get our 2nd choice?), I think most of us would agree, the coaching decision turned out #1, to date.
While I would guess he was probably either on par with guys like Patricia and McDaniels, the intangibles that I mentioned above coupled with the fact he had head coach experience had to be huge.
He squeezed a handful of wins out of an awful Browns team. I'm very happy he's our guy.
I like it too. But different styles work for different guys, and let's hope it's not just the honeymoon phase. But I agree it plays well with the NY sports media. Get a guy like Gruden in here and the coach's comments and behavior would be headlines every day.
