NFT: Michael Jordan 30 for 30

Eli2Plax1017 : 5/15/2018 9:15 pm
LETS GO!! Apparently ESPN and Netflix are partnering for it. 10 hours does sound insane but I'll watch
AIRNESS - ( New Window )
Can't think of anything I'd rather watch less
Greg from LI : 5/15/2018 9:16 pm : link
I've seen more than enough of Michael Jordan to last a lifetime.
I'm not sure we need a Jordan 30 for 30
dpinzow : 5/15/2018 9:20 pm : link
I thought 30 for 30s were for either more obscure stories or famous stories that occupy a niche instead of a transcendent figure like Jordan
I will never tire of watching MJ practice his craft.
Giant John : 5/15/2018 9:23 pm : link
Best to ever lace up sneakers. Imagine if he did not go to baseball?

same here I lived through the 90's as a Knicks fan. Seen enough of him and the fucking Bulls to last mine and my kid's lifetimes.
His craft was ruining my childhood

Piss on that guy. He's a massive dickhead anyway.
Plenty of MJ highlights out there to enjoy
mfsd : 5/15/2018 9:54 pm : link
I don’t see the need to watch hours of a puff piece pretending he was a good guy too
Is it 10 hours of basketball highlights?
bceagle05 : 5/15/2018 9:55 pm : link
Beyond that there isn't anything remotely interesting about him.
There has to be at least an hour or two of those episodes

MoM is out there buying up all the notepads to write down notes to refute any claim he's the GOAT over LeBron

Sorry John, no disrespect to your post, but the whole working on their “craft” comment in sports the last few years has to be one of the most annoying things I have ever heard. Are they whittling a chair or painting a picture? Sorry, just hate that word being used in sports.
They going to go into how much com a pile of shit he is?
LauderdaleMatty : 5/15/2018 11:24 pm : link
Gambling addict. Doesn’t pay his many of his gambling debts. Uses his his NBA team to pay off debts by giving guys he owes relatives or friends 10’day contracts.

Still convinced his dad was a hit. That I don’t know but the rest of th above is all well known. He’s not a good person in any way obey than his other worldly BBall skills.
Wow

Didn’t realize how many MJ haters there were here. Count me as one who is very much looking forward to this.
I'm in the camp that would like to see it
Rocky369 : 5/16/2018 12:42 am : link
tough out your own problems. Maybe the series or two on his personal demons, maybe one on his dad. Go look in a mirror.
I was a 90's Knicks fan
allstarjim : 5/16/2018 2:22 am : link
Jordan, obviously, prevented the Knicks from winning a title. Well, him and Reggie Miller...but mostly Jordan.

Jordan was the perfect basketball player. Maybe in a 100 years or so there will be another like him...maybe not. And no, Lebron James is not in his class. Nobody is. I would watch, as much as I hated him, as much as he tortured my team annually, I would watch. Because a career like that...it should be remembered and re-lived. It transcends fandom of one team. Fine if you don't like him. I don't all that much either. But when you watched him play, he was basketball personified...something truly special.

And it is the height of naivety that anyone thinks another player, much less LeBron James, is in his class. He's not.
If this isn’t about how great he was and instead
bhill410 : 5/16/2018 5:49 am : link
Focuses on the fact that his father possibly died of a mob hit related to gambling debt and the nba possibly forced him to play baseball for 2 years this could be an epic 30 for 30. Unfortunately if we see Jordan at all associated with it, we will know it’s just another fluff piece waxing poetic
Jordan is my favorite athlete of all time
UConn4523 : 5/16/2018 7:38 am : link
but I’m also at a point in my life where I no longer want or care to glorify athletes. I can’t imagine 10 hours, even of my favorite player. I may catch a segment or two but no real interest in a 10 hour documentary on him.

I'll watch it because I'm an NBA nerd, but it's titled 'The Last Dance', so it'll presumably focus on the '97-'98 Bulls team. They already did that with 'Michael Jordan to the Max'.
They didn't spend ten hours

Not sure why it would take 10 hours to examine that. What is the allure unless you are just someone who can't get enough basketball highlights, but hasn't found youtube yet?
Jordan is participating
Essex : 5/16/2018 9:51 am : link
in the series as far as I understand it. It is his level of control in return for his participation which will define the quality of the series. If it is going to be a ten hour "MJ was a great guy and if he wasn't it was because he was so competitive" type of hagiography bs, you can count me out. If MJ allows others close to him to speak freely about his warts and all, if he is reflective upon his career in insightful ways, and if he has no editorial control over the end product, I think this would be a great series, one that I would watch from beginning to end.

To me, Jordon was the best ever. I don't think that's taking anything away from Lebron, but Jordon was the most clutch player I've ever seen.
Is there really ten hours worth of stuff here?

On the other hand, I did watch a four hour documentary on Garry Shandling.

the anthology will examine the simultaneous rise of Jordan and the NBA during those years.

There's a lot you can mine from MJ and the NBA during that era: MJ in college (How many modern fans have know much about him at UNC other than the shot vs. Georgetown), the dunk contests, popularity of Air Jordans and resulting cultural impact, MJ vs. the Pistons, MJ vs. the Knicks, relationship with Phil, relationship with Barkley, relationship with Pippen, punching Steve Kerr, destroying Dennis Hopson, rise as a corporate spokesman, NOT speaking out on any social issues, his father's murder, gambling controversy, Wizards era, Dream Team
Psh...
AJ23 : 5/16/2018 10:51 am : link
Michael Jordan to the Max was 46 minutes long. Above and Beyond was 53 minutes long. His Airness was 55 minutes. SportsCentury did an episode in '03 on him. 30 for 30: Jordan Rides the Bus was the only doc in the past 15 years and that only covered his brief baseball stint.

A couple of good books have been written on MJ, my favorite is Roland Lazenby's "Michael Jordan: The Life."

But arguably the best dynasty in modern sports history has been covered very little, in fact. A look at the team and the man in the modern documentary style introduced by 30 for 30 is going to be awesome.

The series covers the 6 titles and pulls "from more than 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from the 1997-98 championship season."

Count me in.

BINGO! Unless he's going to spill the real reason that he "took his talents" to Birmingham to play baseball, nothing to see here.

I didn't. Magic, Kareem and Russell were all better players(not to mention LeBron who is better as well).

Did Magic ever defend anyone in his life?

Seriously. Double-digits hours on MJ. The most heavily publicized athlete of our time, maybe except for Ali. Pass.
Great player..

maybe the GOAT but I'm not sure he'd be able to survive the twitter 24/7 newscycle era.

Kareem and Russell needed others to get them the ball to be effective offensively. Thus, they are eliminated from any of this "better than" discussion.

Magic? Great, great player. But wake me up when he wins a DOPTY award or makes his first All Defensive team. Jordan was far and away a better two way player than Magic.

I treasured Larry Bird's game. He was a basketball savant and actually a great help side defender. Until Jordan arrived, and then got rolling in the NBA, Bird was the best player I had ever seen.

But alas he's not even in the same stratosphere as MJ. I have only seen one other athlete ever dominate team sports like Jordan - and that is that freak over in Barcelona - Lionel Messi.

I, too, look forward to this project. This millenial world needs to be reminded who the real King of the NBA is - and it isn't the self-acclaimed King LeBron.
