Tom Quinn still looking for work?

jfosterBigBlue : 5/16/2018 12:26 pm
It is interesting that Tom Quinn, former Giants Special Teams coordinator, hasn't been hired by another NFL team. Or has he? According to Wikipedia hasn't found another assignment.

As bad as the special teams have been over the last several years, I was amazed that Quinn kept his job for so long. Looking at Wikipedia it is interesting that the Giants are the only NFL team Quinn worked for.

That special teams become the most improved group on the Giants
not a surprise

I didn't say it was a surprise. I just find it interesting that no other NFL team has hired him. Probably confirms what many of us thought of him as ST coordinator

I’m sure he will catch on somewhere as an assistant at some point, pro or college. It’s all about relationships with these jobs, not always about talent or track record.

a lot of crappy coaches. And hung on to them until ownership forced him to fire them. Hufnagel, Lewis, Sheridan, Fewell just a few guys who never attained the same level they had here. Quinn likely another. Should not have been retained after 2015 but McAdoo had no network of coaches to draw from.
Sounds like you are happy to report he is still out of work

The Giants probably did him no favors keeping him for so long. ST coaches cycle through the different teams pretty regularly. But he stayed and stayed leaving no doubt of his talents or lack thereof.
Coughlin had a lot strengths as a coach . . . .
TC : 5/16/2018 2:01 pm : link
and is a worthy man. But his choice of coaches and misplaced loyalties, and apparent cronyism did not serve the team well. Of course, it's unknown who else's influence contributed to some of these acquisitions and their retention.

Quinn was at B.U. only a couple of years after Coughlin was HC there. Another unfortunate B.U. or Syracuse pick up from that pipeline to go along with some head-scratching draft selections.

Hufnagel and Lewis lasted 3 years, Sheridan 1 year. I would not call that too long.
um not BU

in fariness, Tim Lewis was considered an excellent hire at the time.

Just making an observation. No ill will toward the man. Just making the point that he has not been snatched up by another team.

Thanks! Yes, Coughlin was BC & Quinn BU, so there wasn't a connection there. I confused them.

But my observation regarding some draft picks remain, though it's hard to know what other influence there might have been.
Looks like the league has spoken?

he was fired in Pittsburgh and came exactly as advertised a guy who played a soft zone and was overmatched.

A lack of talent shows itself on an NFL roster, is special teams.

In 11 his unit was a key contributor in many key games.

Always makes me laugh when we fans dismiss a guy as some kind of joke when he has risen to the level they have. Not everyone makes it to the NFL

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t he work for about 10 years under Cowher & didn’t his defenses achieve some success there.

I believe he had the #1 defense once in Pittsburgh but that was mainly because of Cowher. I was actually excited when he was hired here. My friend who is a Steelers fan was glad to see him go. I quickly learned why. I couldn't stand his scheme. He was constantly asking players to do things that they weren't comfortable doing.

Yes his teams contributed in some key moments. But his career with the Giants clearly went a bridge too far...

I agree with that. I understand there are different measures of success at any level of sports.

I also realize Quinn s tenor with the Giants was often laced with mediocre to poor play by his unit

I just get turned off when fans, myself in included, dismiss anyone who has gotten to the professional level as if they are some kind of clown.

It is arrogance born of not really understanding the amount of work and ability that goes into being in the top 1% of any given profession, which being in the NFL is.

Was not trying to be a contrarian here.

Big TC fan as a HC and motivator but his personnel selection in players and Coaches was nothing like Parcels in those areas. He was loyal to a fault with them also.

He couldn't coach a punter to kick out of bounds, rather than give other teams' returners a chance to burn his awful coverage unit. His were "special" teams only in the innovative ways they found to lose games.

Lighten up. Quinn made a helluva lot $ doing a subpar to poor job over the years.

BIGNTHEORY : 5/18/2018 7:24 am : link
Anyone who wants to defend Quinn should watch the replay of the end of the 1st Philly game. A punt out of bounds would've clinched the game... but Quinn couldn't figure that. Instead, we allowed a return that positioned Philly for a game winning field goal! Our season was over from there!
