Just started up - Wheeler has of course failed to get out of the first inning without allowing a run... again.
1. Juan Lagares (R) CF
2. Asdrubal Cabrera (S) 2B
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
4. Michael Conforto (L) RF
5. Phillip Evans (R) LF
6. Luis Guillorme (L) 3B
7. Jose Lobaton (S) C
8. Zack Wheeler (L) P
9. Amed Rosario (R) SS
Nice to see the bats wake up last night - but it'll be a challenge to keep that going with Cespedes and Frazier on the DL.
I'm not sure what the Mets plan is to compete with these teams going forward. Just keep blaming injuries? DeGrom and Thor are just going to get more expensive and more than offset the Wright money coming off of the books.
Out of curiosity, how do you know this?

Pete is Denny. Denny is Pete.
LOL, really? He made a fake Mets fan handle?
Weird.. and sad.
Was wondering who that was.
I'm 99.9% sure it's NYK.
And FrankieinFlushing lol
Dude isn't good. Sorry.

It's a good question. I think the Mets are now firmly behind WSH/ATL/PHI in terms of team building. While the Braves and Phillies re-tooled and rebuilt, we spent 3 consecutive offseasons trying to replicate the flukey 2015 team and it's not getting us anywhere.
Miami is awful but I think I'd rather build from the ground up than keep watching this trash.
Dude isn't good. Sorry.
No need to apologize, at least to most of us here. There is however one person that might take umbrage to the "garbage" comment. LOL!
Why Gsellman? Stretching him out for the rotation? Is this how you do that?

Meanwhile, Robert Gsellman is pitching for the 19th time in 39 games, three days after throwing three innings against the Phillies. The Mets trail by six. No one in baseball has thrown more relief innings than Gsellman this season.

If it was Collins, this entire thread would be killing him.
The managers aren't the problem with this team. It's Sandy Alderson.
He has to go.
Remember, accountability and performance apparently don't matter for this Mets team. Vargas and Wheeler can just get rocked all the time and are still apparently safe in the rotation. Jay Bruce under 100 wRC and on track for his 4th season of 1 WAR or less in 5 years yet somehow he plays every day and gets a fat contract while Nimmo rides the pine.

When you consider the usage of Gsellman in a silo, it tells you quite a bit about the starting pitching.
Can Dolan buy the Mets? He at least will spend money. I am so sick of the Wilponzis.
Its a AAA lineup out there except for Cabrera.
Awful!
However, he should be done as a starter
I'd love to know the rational in giving Sandy an extension...

AJ Ramos in the game and getting shelled. Guy is only pitchable in blowouts. I don't understand what the point of that trade was.

There is no rationale or logic when it comes to the Mets.
The owners obviously don't prioritize winning much. Otherwise we wouldn't be closing in on another decade of futility.
I don't see this thing turning around any time soon, either. Where is the help coming from?
I remember being excited down the stretch of the 2014 season because all of the pitchers were starting to get up here, Conforto was on the way, the MLB team looked like it was finally headed in the right direction... not even 4 years later, and we have barely anything to show for it.
Matt Harvey $5.6M
AJ Ramos $9.25M
Signed:
Jason Vargas 2/$16M
A Swarzak 2/$14M
Jay Bruce 3/$39M
Todd Frazier 2/$17M
Jose Reyes 1/$2M

Its really depressing. They also don't have any exciting young athletic position players currently. Cespedes is but he's always hurt. Conforto hopefully recovers but who knows. Rosario is a big unknown. Simply put they aren't entertaining right now and hard to watch.
Degrom and Noah are fun to watch but the rest of the rotation is complete dogshit.
If you take away Wright's salary which insurance is covering, their payroll is about 16th in the league. Its pathetic.

Man thats ugly. Outside of resigning Cespedes which he was all but forced to do, has Sandy had 1 good FA signing? I guess Grandy and Colon if you can consider those good signings but thats about it.

It really seems like having an offseason this bad would be difficult to accomplish if one was trying to fail.
at least it's not over yet.

Thats incredible. Mets spent 54 million for 0 WAR through the first 40 games
I've been a Mets fan for most of my life - I wouldn't be able to tell you based on anything I've seen here lately.

Vargas signing was grand larceny. Fireable offense imo
Lets hope Alonso and McNeil are the real deal. The minors look empty otherwise. Maybe Peterson but he is only in low A.

DMM, Shecky, Mike, ZG all those guys all know more than me, but McNeil is 26 already. Maybe a late bloomer. Seems like he's hit consistently throughout his career for average, never had much power until this recent surge from what I can tell.
Not if they get the right launch angle
